  • Sucks to all those that paid the expensive price

    • +11

Those might have paid more for AU warranty though.

      • -5

Apple will cover other markets devices with the same warranty we have here except in the case where they do not have the parts as they differ from the local markets. Typically this is only in phones and is just the networks they support so if the circuit boards differ they won't repair them. They do fix the home button, screen, battery and other parts.

        • +7

According to Australian law, aus stock mobile phone can get 2yrs warranty, instead of one in other country.

I think thats why aus stock iphone is the most expensive one in the world.

        • +5

@Ian1989: It's not even that much more expensive than Canada (similar population, density and social welfare systems):

          Canada (BC) iPhone 7 128gb: $1029 + $123.48 tax —> 1152.48 CAD or 1148.86 AUD (1 year warranty)
Australia iPhone 7 128 gb: $1229 AUD (2 year warranty)

~$80 more in Oz. To get 2 years warranty in Canada, you have to pay $129 + $15.48 CAD tax.

On top of that, to actually use the phone in Australia on a network is about half the price of using in Canada.

        • @Ian1989: I don't think AU iPhones are really more expensive. A lot of regions don't have tax quoted in their figure, and there is likely a small amount of padding there to allow to currency fluctuations since Apple and some other companies only adjust for exchange rates once or twice a year. All things equal we're usually not too off the US prices.

        • @truemana: yes, that's exactly what i mean. I understand that $80 is cheaper than buying a apple care for $129.

but personally, I would feel more comfortable if I can decide whether to buy apple care or not.

        • @truemana: >social welfare

          iPhones on the dole \o/

        • @Ian1989: For those who can pay with certain credit cards (eg. Amex platinum edge ) they will offer an additional 1 year warranty on top of the 1 year, effectively giving this 'grey import' 2 yr warranty.

        • @keithality: good point!

        • @Ian1989: How come? I thought it is 2 years, if you are on 24 months plans. I bought an iphone from Myer and it was covered for only 1 year warranty. Please shed light on this claim

        • @Armin65: FYI: http://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/

Without limiting consumers’ rights, Apple will provide its own remedies equivalent to those remedies in the consumer guarantee provisions of the Australian Consumer Law at any time within 24 months of the date of purchase. For the avoidance of doubt, Apple acknowledges that the Australian Consumer Law may provide for remedies beyond 24 months for a number of its products.

        • @keithality: actually this may not be the case as in the fine print formy platinum MasterCard the warranty is only extended if it is an Australian warranty. So they may wiggle out of it as its a grey import and not Australian warranty as such.

        • @Ian1989:
          Thanks for the link
I am in the UK now and bought an iPhone 7 128GB, hoping to return tax on my return to Oz (equivalent to A$1040 after refund). I can return this and buy one in Oz and return tax on my Xmas break ending up: 1229-189=$1040.
It looks 2 years warranty for purchase in Aus worth much more with the same total cost, am I right?
          Thanks in advance

        • @Armin65: That's right. Same price with free Apple Care:)

        • @Smigit: well, I guess I should have said "one of".

if oz ips are not more expensive than so other regions, grey import shops like kogan wont have any change to make money:)

        • @Ian1989: If they were cheaper we'd all be importing them from overseas every day of the week.

What retailers pay, grey import or not, and what we pay are different and there is some margin on them one way or another to allow undercutting RRP.

There's slight fluctuations here and there between markets, but it's relatively minor taken as an cost percentage. I doubt we're the only country with laws providing more than 12 months warranty too. Don't quote me but I was sure some EU states had similarly consumer friendly requirements.

@tehsnrub: so two quick comments from that having only skimmed it

          A) it clearly shows AU isn't the most expensive market if you use their figures. Some devices had us as fifth cheapest globally last year, and while some have slipped to 17 or so, that's from a pool of 57 countries

          B) I don't think the tables and data is well done. They are mixing pretax and post tax results. Even if labelled, it's still creating an Apples to Oranges comparison. Not sure if they could have created a better dataset by just using presages figures for each country to account for the fact some countries have per state tax rates like the US.

Just had a look and a 32GB iPad Pro is approx 1045AUD before tax (1149 with GST). According to Googles currency conversion that's $800.37USD, which is pretty damn close to the US $799USD pretax price the US gets.

Frankly I think CBA are botching the tables and/or the datas now old which is why the fact Apple only reindexes prices once or twice a year is relevant. Using data from three days before Apple had a major launch and revised pricing is quite pathetic really too.

        • @Ian1989: I did research on it mate. If 2 years is the case in Oz, it is even more in other countries. e.g: 6 years in Uk, 5 years in Scotland (link: http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/ )
Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks by the way

      • +5

You can still buy apple care and get 2 years warranty and 2 cheap accidental damage repair.

        • Do you know where cheap to get apple care?

      • +1

        Well..

        http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

Based on those 10 people paid $1078 on Monday

        • Is was 20% off then too so they would have paid the same price https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267131

        • +1

@unity1: ahh, sounds like normal price almost. how do they make money

        • +1

@Turd: Apple has too many stocks for non plus version. The screen is only 720p. People would prefer to get the plus version with better camera, screen, and processor.

        • that is just the listing price not the actually price.
i once bought a camera for 1500 (2000 listing price). and the history still shows 2000, where clearly my paypal shows 1500.

      • I thought they don't even bother to repair iPhone's. They just replace them. Blackberry's were the same

    • Hence the term ozbargain

  • +1

Pretty good, but the groupon eBay only saves another $15, good, but not major in the scheme or things I think. That's what I'll tell myself anyway haha.

    • +1

True. But people are getting targeted eBay coupon code like 10% off maximum $50. They can use it to with this if they are lucky to have one coupon available.

      • True, I have one of those

      • Oh wow, didn't realise there were targeted codes, that's pretty damn good.

Shame I bought one from last sale, so still need to comfort myself haha

    • Just purchased the groupon voucher - does anyone know how long the code takes to come through on email?

  • +6

    Delivery in November!

    • Wow, did not realize that. Thanks. Updated now.

    • Good things come to those who wait

      • -2

        those sheep yeah

    • +1

You have to wait so that the resolution can go higher than 720p.

  • +3

I am waiting for the 7 plus to have 20% off.

    • +4

I'm waiting for the 7+ to be in stock…..

      • Just order one and it'll come before somewhere 'has stock'

    • jewellery sale is regularly 50% (lol)

  • meh the poor size iphone 7 and a long wait, no deal here

    • +2

This is the good size, the usable one.

    • +2

All of the difference is just dual-lens for your zooming preference, and the size. The Plus is way too big for my hands.

      • +1

The screen is 1080p for the plus. Only 720p for non plus, which is very outdated compared to other smart phones.
The speed for plus is faster too. Better battery life as well.

        • which is very outdated

OK but it's pretty marginal quality increases at this screen size.

      • Apple is waiting for everyone to buy the bigger and less usable iPhone plus just for the dual camera. Then they will release the 7s and incorporate the dual camera on the smaller phone.

    • meh the poor size iphone 7 and a long wait, no deal here

Absolutely, iPhone SE is much better.

  • Being ex Hong Kong and less than $1,000 there is unlikely to be GST, so no TRS refund.

    • +5

It is grey import so no GST paid to start with.. Therefore no refund for sure.

  • Same model number as au stock ?

    • +1

"May differ slightly from local models" according to their description.

  • Will DSE/Kogan provide official receipt? or just paypal receipt?

    • I believe you should be able to ask them to provide that.

  • no plus ?

    • +1

      No plus, no burn ;)
cf. today's news about AT&T iphone 7 plus.

  • +2

Would you be eligible for an extra 1 year warranty though AMEX platinum edge?

  • Great. another $15 off buy using Groupon ebay voucher

  • +1

Do you atleast get 1 year Apple warranty or is just Kogan warranty? Can just buy it on a credit card that gives you 1 year free extended warranty makes it 2 years

    • +2

You get 1 Year Apple WW Warranty

  • decided to wait for plus…

  • Does this run on the full australian network?

    • Yeah, it can run on any service provider in Australia.

  • Any 7 plus?
I assume you can't TRS is.

    • No, and No because you're not paying GST

  • -2

Waiting for Bose qc35 deal to go with this

  • +1

    All colours?

    *not Jet Black

    • +1

Haha, yes all colors are available but not all types. :p Black is a color and is there.

Updated the OP and removed the all color thing.

  • -7

You might want to check this out before you decide to buy Iphone 7

    • So you mean like every single device that has ever had a battery?

      • -5

Nops.. just thought of putting it out there… Just in case if you buy one, there are chances it might catch fire.. (Just Saying)

        • +2

So you never take a plane flight because planes can crash? How about never taking a shower because people can slip and die?

I guess you should never eat too, because you could choke and die.

        • -1

          @c0balt: Apple worshiper spotted..!!

No I do not mean that.. I was just putting it out there..

I guess you would jump off a cliff too thinking a truck filled with cotton may pass through and you'd fall in it.

        • +1

          @accessdenied:

I'm an Android man, but a 128GB iPhone 7 for under 1k is a great deal. Also fear mongerers over lithium battery issues (bar the Note 7) have been vilified (rightly so) for a long time now.

    • Could have easily put the thing in the microwave for a little publicity. 1 case out of a billion phones… hrmmm

    • Not like the Daily Mail just makes up crap and reprints anything that will sell ads without checking it.

Always good for a look at some quality English Eurotrash totty though.

  • +1

    5-6 week wait…

  • +1

Don't forget to order a 3.5mm drill bit so you can drill and expose the hidden headphone jack. ;)

    • This is one reason why i'm reluctant to buy iPhone 7

      • But the phone comes with a Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter

        • +1

I ain't gonna have that thing dangling around my shorts and will bound to lose or forgot it rendering it useless. Stick with previous gen. It's still fast enough to do everything. The less people buy iPhone 7 the more they'll realise it was such a poor error of judgement. Apple has lost the plot on this one.

        • @dingdong3000: It's a courageous move to sell more Bluetooth headphones without reminding people that they own Beats :p

        • @Diji1:

Those Solo2 Wireless headphones aren't that bad actually but no ones baiting for them as its ridiculously priced. Can be said about the Airpods too i reckon

  • -6

I wouldn't buy an iPhone if you held a gun to my head….but this is a good deal if you're after one.

    • I would. See you in hell :p

    • +1

Voted down for saying it's a good deal?? Wow…Apple fanboys :(

      • +2

Every iPhone deal that's posted devolves into an apple sucks or iPhone vs Android debate. Gets old. Not here to be converted to Android, here for the deal.

        • -3

..and I quote 'but this is a good deal if you're after one.'

        • +2

@gasman70: so why do we need to know you wouldn't buy an iPhone if a gun was held to your head? Nobody asked and nobody cares. Hence the down votes.

        • +3

@gasman70: I didn't neg but i think it was more the way the first part comes across. Perhaps a better way to convey would have just been to say "not really into iPhones personally, but this is a good deal if you're after one"

        • -3

          @FatBlanket:

Apologies for any offence caused. I'm actually a member of several forums and for some reason I assumed I was signed into one of those that enjoyed a small injection of humour (however bad the 'joke').

So, for the more sensitive among us….great deal. 20% off a brand new iPhone is a rare but wonderful thing.

  • If i buy 2 , will i have to pay tax?

    • You can always make two separate orders mate. Don't risk it

    • Also I think it's 1 per transaction.

1 per txn. Offer ends 17:00 AEST 1st Oct.

    • +1

2 separate orders under different names. Same name will still attract import tax.

They are actually looking after us, keeping all the iphones under $1k to avoid import tax.

      • 2 different addresses will be fine even if it's the same name?

        • Different addresses make no difference because you are importing 2 items with a combined value of almost $2000 into the country in around the same time under one person's name. If lucky, they might miss it but it is very high risk.
