    Question:
Is this 110v or 220v, or both?
    Reply:
    …It is 220v.

    Question:
Hi, does it work with 230v (Europe) and if so will the lifetime be reduced? Thanks!
    Reply:
…It can't work with 230V. The products may burn out.

So does it or does it not work on 240VAC?

    • works fine with Aussie electricity. I have two of these bulbs and it plugs in just fine with the E27 socket. if u have the other B22 sockets, go buy the adapter from IKEA that's only like $2 or $3.

To those thinking about buying the Mi Smart Plug, please bear in mind that it is flush flat, so if you plug it into most modern powerpoints it will be jutting out if you turn the power button on at the socket. Therefore i had to buy a surge protector that had a flush front end.

Another thing too is that it will only take three-prong plugs as it needs the bottom terminal to take the plug in before it will take the top two terminals as well. Silly.

Agreed, the smart plug is poor design for Aussie users. It can take 2 prong plugs but you need to find a small flat head screwdriver to open up the socket first. Yes, it's upside down and too flat thus needs an 85c adapter to raise it up so that you can flick the wall switch.

Otherwise, it's the most cost effective wireless switch. Makes a small sound when it flicks on/off. App for the smart switch seems to be in Chinese only unfortunately.

        • Crap didn't even think of the flat head screwdriver idea. Will have to try that next time. Thanks for that mate

I use it outdoors to turn a 40W LED work light when I get back home with the car. As can't remove existing outside sensor light.

Total laziness for the win. Thank god for xiaomi.

  • Any idea if workable with Logitech harmony?

    • you need an app, harmony is infra red

If you have ambitions to build out a few smart home components, i'd invest in bulbs from better supported players like Philips or Lifx, so you can integrate across devices. E.g. have a zwave sensor control the lights. I've got some Lifx bulbs from an OzB deal for $40 delivered that I control from an Amazon Echo, which works great. You may never be able to do that with the Xiaomi bulbs.

    • yeah works well in that sense, those are better alternatives and seems better than Apple's HomeKit.

I have two of these Yeelight bulbs and a Mi Smart Plug, so everything is controlled well from the app itself where I can set groups and actions / timers. Going to purchase the Home Gateway and all the sensors to go with it.

why the jesus (profanity) don't they ever make these lights have the equivalent brightness of a 90w incandescent?
Just give me that, (profanity). I can't put a 60w in my room, no one does that, you need 90w in a bedroom.

Does anyone know of a controllable 90w-equivalent light? Even if not colour changing?

    • Exact same thought. I NEED MORE POWER!!!

I bought two of these recently off Aliexpress. Similar price due to the 10% cashback. Not much of a deal, good by about a dollar or so.

I can attest that these are amazing. You will definitely need two of them in a room, not just 1 as it's only 600 lumens each (9W). 1200 lumens without a light cover is very bright and nice. Similar to a 1400lumen, 23W bulb from woolworths.

You can control them from anywhere with an internet connection, doesn't have to be inside the house. If you connect it up to their system, you can do things like if motion sensor goes off, turn light on for 10 minutes at 50% brightness. If no motion, turn lights off etc.

They can shift through the colours automatically and you can control multiple globes with one button (great for setting the mood). The white ones can be bought for about $16 each and are only 8W.

The only downside is that they aren't compatible with IFTTT yet, Xiaomi says they have plans to make it compatible in the future but who knows. In the meantime, they are more than good enough for how cheap they are, especially since they have a whole cost effective closed eco-system for your IFTTT needs.

I've bought the gateway system so door sensor, motion sensor, wireless switch, 2x colour lights and 1x white light. I'm about to buy more as it's amazing. I wouldn't buy the door sensor individually as it runs on CR1628's which are not rechargeable. You can buy the LIR version of the other button batteries. Yeelights are great because they don't need batteries.

I've got virtually every thing that Xiaomi smart home makes. I wouldn't be concerned about battery life on the door sensor, batteries will last years even with dozens are door movements a day….as you know there devices use the ZigBee to communicate which has extremely low power consumption. The Temp/humidity sensors use the same technology, and they send data every 2 minutes back to the gateway, and yet they are expected to last years on a button cell.

      • Do you have the universal IR media controller? I'd really like to buy that, but it's an extra $7 on the black bean and the black bean has IFTTT support, English support and guaranteed IR learning support.

More importantly, does it have an IR learning function? I can't find this anywhere on the internet, only a review that states they found an IR receiver when they took it apart. [edit] Also correction to an earlier post, the door sensors run on CR1632 batteries. Motion sensor on CR/LIR2450 and wireless button on the standard CR/LIR2032.

      • What are you using to control these? The app seems to be a mixture of English and Chinese.

  • Anybody worried about the app permissions in the MI home app?

  • You can also run the 'yeelight' app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yeelight.c… - I've not actually tried MiHome.

    • Mi Home is the package that wraps up all their items. When you click on each one, it takes you to the proper location. It's far easier and superior to use the Yeelight app, reporting of light status isn't 100% whereas reporting of light on/off status is 100% in the MiHome app. These work on the 2.4GHz frequency only, you can control them if your phone is on the 5GHz frequency, you just need to be broadcasting on both frequencies.

Not having looked into these types of things yet I have one question. I can't see the benefit of having automated lights, paying $25 for a bulb that can be turned on from your phone anywhere you have a internet connection. Would someone be able to explain why people would pay this much for a bulb and/or what kind of automation you can get that would want to make me buy this?

    Not hating, just curious

For me it allows me to dim and adjust temperature / colour without electrical changes. I've also set it up (LIFX through IFTTT) so that when I arrive home the lights switch on.

Little things, but I feel that it improves my living environment :)

    • I'm in a rental so I can't take out the outside sensor light which is just rubbishly dim. Plus the existing room light switches don't have a dimmer, which these Yeelights have the capability to do.

At moment have it setup so that when I get home in my car the outside work light will turn on and also turn on the room lights. Going to buy home gateway so its all linked.

    • It's quite nice to just press a button if I decide to take a nap instead of getting up and turning the light off.

I also use a light purple when watching a film and other colours at night and in the morning and as a dim bedlight. (The latest research on the topic says red at night helps you get to sleep whereas blue in the morning helps wake you up - the colours quite dim though).

As jtb said you get to choose how white or yellow the light is and how bright. I control it via shortcuts on my android devices but have ordered the home starter kit so will switch to sensors and the wireless button once I get it. The cube would be nice but too expensive and not functional enough imo.

  • Any deals on the bedside lamp?
