Checked the website for a video showing just how much "fun" this bottle-opening process would be, but couldn't find one.

Going by the description, it seems like a pretty convoluted process when compared to the supremely effective standard bottle opener, and is more like an answer to a question no one asked. Surely businesses handing these out for branding/promotions whatever could do better, seeing as how these will more than likely end up as landfill.

I agree that most promotional items probably end up in landfill. BottleMate is ethically manufactured in Japan and is also recyclable so hopefully some don't end up in landfill.
