Hey Guys,

I think this is a great price for a Quad Proc, 8GB RAM and SSD notebook.

Don't be fooled by the i5 spec, this is a genuine Quad core that has no worries comfortably beating any of the i5/i7-6xxxU range.

Screen is a minor let down, but better than 1366x768, 131ppi which is around what you would get @ 1080p on a 17" screen, so still fine to work with!

The new retail price with a Dual Core i5-6300U, 1366x768 screen and Win10 Home is $1561.30 and this is quite a lot more powerful than that.

Windows 8.1. No wonder they returned it, lol.

I might have impulse bought it if MS's free upgrade was still active.

Fresh installs of win10 still working for me using the COA keys for win7/8. Just not upgrades.

      • You'd have to download a non-Dell OEM version of Windows 10, unless Dell has a customized iso for you.

And what happens after MS turns off this feature? Will your system still be considered W10 activated?

        • +3

Yeah, use the Microsoft tool to create a bootable USB, grab the driver package from the Enterprise wiki and away you go!

Edit: yes it will, it will have a digital entitlement.

        • Win10 worked for me off bootable USB. It just pulls the Win 8.1 key from the BIOS. No need to enter it.

        • @rooon: Does it insert the Dell logo when you right click on Computer and then Properties?

        • @lostn:
          Nope. Just Windows 10 logo.

For those worried about not being able to upgrade to Windows 10 since the MS free upgrade offer has expired:

I did a clean install of Window 10 2 weeks ago and activated it using the product key of my original Windows 7 with no problems.

There are some articles/discussions online that confirm the method above is still working.

    • Thanks for confirming :)

I did a clean install of Window 10 2 weeks ago and activated it using the product key of my original Windows 7 with no problems

Did the same thing over the weekend. Used Win7 key during Win10 install off a bootable USB, no issues.

      • Any idea when this policy will change?

I'm planning a new PC later this year and want to know if I'll still be able to get Windows 10 cheaper by buying W7, or if I should just pay more for W10.

  • Any idea on weight, battery life and whether the keyboard is backlit?

    • Unsure, jump on live chat and report back, I'm on mobile now unfortunately!

    • Back on PC.. There's an option for a backlit keyboard but the DFO listing doesn't say it has one so you'd have to double check with their guys.

      Single Pointing non-backlit Keyboard
      Dual Pointing backlit Keyboard

      The dimensions/weight:

      Width: 13.2” / 334.9mm
      Height (front): 0.9“ / 23.2mm
      Depth: 9.1” / 231.1mm
      Starting weight: 3.88 lbs. / 1.76 kg
(4 cell battery, M.2 SSDA, non touch, FHD LCD)

Battery life won't be as good as the U series processors as this is a 45W CPU and not 15W. Saying that, should be pretty close though unless you're doing constant CPU heavy tasks.

      • Will it run at 15W if you're not doing anything CPU intensive?

        • That's just the maximum it will pull, it will likely hover much lower than that when it's not working too hard.

  • you would think the refurb would include the operating system

      It does

  • Is the screen IPS?

    • Not really sure, all it says in the Datasheet is 14.0” HD+ (1600 x 900) Anti-glare (16:9) WLED, 250 nits

Would assume not based on that info.

nope - lats all have anti glare 'privacy' screens - off angle viewing is considered bad in this sector.

      • Is the lack of viewing angle on a TN or whatever screen really a "privacy screen"?

AFAIK a "privacy screen" is a screen that is currently only on 1 or 2 (expensive) laptops and it's a feature that can be switched on and off.

        Could be wrong.

        • not what i call it - what they call it - hence the ''

      • Gernerally, 'Anti-glare' just means it has a matte coating instead of a glossy coating.

        • tell them. it is what they call the screens

  • There is one for $120 more that has 256mb ssd, backlight keyboard, windows 10 pro, 1x8gb ram, FHD screen. Worth it?

    • +2

      Not with 256mb ssd, no.

    • is it this model DFO-3766814LT ? its $849

      • thats the one

        • +1

Definitely worth it over this, FHD screen also.

Min qty for a deal is 10 though so can't post the single deals.

        • Looks like someone scored a pretty good bargain!

  • haha, gb

  • is this worth it?
