Killer Tv for the price Samsung's version of the Oled. Staff price at JB is $3199 so a killer deal, Even Iv'e considered Price matching these guys so I could stick on 50 Months. Rtings.com Rate it the second best Tv behind Lg oled's of course.

    • Yes, I liked the SUHD better than the OLED in my visit to the store. The OLED's seem to have better "blackness" though.

      • +1

Yes the oled's have better blacks but the samsung are HDR1000 so actually better brightness than the oled's that sit aroudn 800 from memory. Obviously everyone loves the price and the one connect box and universal remote comes in handy for blu-ray players/xbox ps4 etc.

    • That's because Samsung is LCD and (high-end) LG is LED. LCD can not match blacks of LED, on the other hand, because of backlight, LCD is much brighter than LED.

In a highly lit store, brightness matters most, so, EVERYONE, will prefer LCD.

HDR requires high brightness, contrast requires low darkness - choose your devil.

      • What?

        • What?

which part is difficult to understand?

Stripped of trademarks and deliberate obfuscations by each brand, LCD is transmissive and LED is emissive, hence, have different characteristics.

Samsung stopped making big LED screen as of this year's models, I believe.

        • Samsung is LCD and (high-end) LG is LED.

He was comparing the Samsung to the LG OLED.

And an LED TV is an LCD.

        • @AlexF:

LCD is transmissive and LED is emissive, hence, have different characteristics.

In reply to your edit, an LED TV is an LCD TV.

And as I posted, he was comparing OLED to Samsung's SUHD.

        • @Kleetus:

SUHD is Samsung's trademarked LCD (transmissive) implementation.

an LED TV is an LCD.

No, LG's (and last year's Samsung) "LED TV" is LED (implementated using organic semiconductor, hence, OLED).
For others, yes, "LED TV" was LCD with (blue/brightest) LED backlight (with or without new QD filter) - I believe ACCC made a ruling to force others to label correctly, so, it shouldn't be seen anymore in promotional material.

        • @AlexF:

I know that, and you're dodging what I posted.

LED TV is an LCD TV, and he was talking about OLED.

        • @AlexF:

Stop repeatedly editing your post after I've posted in response.

No, LG's (and last year's Samsung) "LED TV" is LED (implementated using organic semiconductor, hence, OLED).

Hence, no, you're just trying to obfusticate.

Nobody refers to OLED as LED.

Here is what you originally said:

"That's because Samsung is LCD and (high-end) LG is LED. LCD can not match blacks of LED"

        • Nobody refers to OLED as LED.

PMOLED and AMOLED are two types of OLED. OLED is one type of LED. 'LED' is every type of LED.

Stop repeatedly editing your post after I've posted in response.

Believe it it not, I'm not posting only for you. Edits are additions to not modifications of what I've already written.

"That's because Samsung is LCD and (high-end) LG is LED. LCD can not match blacks of LED"

exactly. Perhaps, this is clearer "That's because Samsung is LCD whilst (high-end) LG is LED. LCD can not match blacks of LED"?

        • @AlexF:

Nobody calls an LG OLED an LED.

Not LG themselves, and nobody else.

You messed up and are simply trying to dodge and weave.

Perhaps, this is clearer "That's because Samsung is LCD whilst (high-end) LG is LED. LCD can not match blacks of LED"?

The Samsung is an LED, it's an LCD that uses LED.

And he was talking about LG OLED, nothing to do with LG LED.

        • @AlexF:

And just so I've got this right, a Samsung SUHD isn't an LED TV, it's an LCD.

While LG OLED isn't an OLED, it's an LED?

  • 65" presumably?

    • Yes. Edited the title to make it obvious.

The 75 inch Hisense m7000 would be a better buy if spending 3k on a tv in my opinion providing you are not after a curved TV and can fit a 75inch.

    • +2

The Hisense 75 inch is $4000. If I'm spending more than $1000 on a TV, I wouldn't be looking at a brand like HiSense. I know someone who has a Hisense TV and a refrigerator and they both encountered problems within the warranty period.
I could not find many reviews about this TV, let alone compare it to a Samsung. There is an Ozbargain thread about this TV and the comments don't look too impressive.

      • I second this, would be going for either a Samsung or LG.

      • Lazybones where are you getting your numbers from because it would make sense to make a fair comparison.

        Binglee ebay before code.
        Hisense 75M7000 -$3,799.00
        Samsung UA65KS8500 -3,899.00

        Binglee after code CUT20
        Hisense 75M7000 ~$3040
        Samsung UA65KS8500 ~$3120

        $80 less.

        $80 less for:
Better picture quality (IMO and lots of others)
10 extra inches (33% more screen space) for 4k this will be night and day.
        Better smart tv os
Better warranty 3yr vs 1yr (either way all covered under consumer law but obviously manufacturing 3yr is better than 1yr just to save hassle.)

The only things i can see this samsung has over the hisense is:
        -Available in a curved model.
        -fits in a smaller space
-Brighter (Maybe of benefit but i believe most people turn the brightness right down as soon as it gets turned on in the home and its not like the hisense has a problem with its level of brightness.)
        -A higher regarded brand.

Based on the above the Hisense is a way better buy in my opinion. I just wish binglee was in my state!

        • It's $4K at JB-Hifi. I didn't realize that Bing Lee were also selling it. Saying that, my comment remains the same, I wouldn't be paying so much of money on a brand, let alone a TV which doesn't have many comparable reviews.

      • I have had 3 samsung tvs all of which have had problems, two plasma top of the range and an lcd.

      • Is your mates hisense tv a M7000 model? Because i would not recommend any Hisense TV except the M7000 range. Also could you please link me to the Ozbargain thread? I had a quick check in the forums and couldn't see it when i searched and would love to read more opinions on this model range from owners. Thanks a lot.

  • The Hisense m7000 out rated all Samsungs and is a better buy.

  • I am waiting for the 55" KS8000 to go below $2,000, target by Christmas. Seen the M7000 Hisense in store in HN, not really impressed with it, maybe it have something to do with the tuning.

    • Its not uncommon for retail stores to setup TVs with the highest margins/commissions to look the best. It would not be smart to make your purchasing decisions based purely on viewing what has been setup in store. A couple of times i have seen the M7000 its looked terrible a couple of other times brilliant. Unless you know the source of the feed and the TV's settings its very hard to form an educated opinion.

      • Nope, I base my decision based on what rtings website says, it does not have the Hisense on review for me to compare. Also, more comfortable with Samsung as my current FHD is still working perfectly after 3 years.

        http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ks8000

        • yeah its a shame rtings don't have the European hisense models on there. The US hisense models don't match.

        • Check out CNET.COM David Katzimer I think his name is. Decent honest reviews in my opinion. Doesn't rate the Samsung models to well.

    • Your not honestly choosing your TV based on the TV settings/content you see in the store?

  • Is 65" the largest in this series 8 quantum dot range?

    • Answered my own question. Currently 65" is the largest size in the 8000 series.

There are several 75" and 78" models in the higher 9000 series, which are also quantum dot, but the cost is $7500+

Ive had a Sharp 70" and Samsung 75" (bought for $29xx 2 yrs ago) over the past 3.5 years.
I dont mind dropping back to 70" but would prefer to stay above 65".. think I need to hold off till next year for prices to drop and larger sizes to be more commonplace.
