Pretty awesome price for one of the best Android tablets in market right now. Pulled the trigger and upgraded from my old iPad Air.

This is newer and improved 2016 model (T819) 64GB cellular version having RRP $849. I can't find it any cheaper even at grey import websites.

Also, as this is genuine Australian stock don't forget the TRS refund if you are planning traveling overseas within next 60 days (i.e. $77.18 back if Bing Lee issues full price invoice).
Further, don't forget 1.25% cashback through Cashrewards either (or $10.61 back if the full invoice amount gets tracked by CR.

In such scenario the effective price may get down to just $591.41 (if picked up) or $600.41 (if delivered). Steal price for this awesome tablet.

  • Nice find!

iPad Air 2 64GB (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267261) for $530.40. Damn, what to do… I wasn't able to find a comparison review online with the updated Galaxy Tab S2.

The $611 128GB iPad Air 2 was tempting too haha

    • I have both the S2 and iPad pro9.7 . Both are great but I prefer the S2 overall.

      • Thanks PVA :) In your own experience, which features sway you to favour the S2?

        • Its really subjective. I think it just feels better in the hand and seems more fluid to use.
I will say my phone is Android so it could also be that I am familiar with the OS, IOS really bugs in in some of its ways - and siri is terrible compared to OK Google in its results.
          what phone do you use?

        • I'm not sure about the s2, but i'd definitely stay away from the air 2. They went way overboard in making it thin, the speakers vibrates the entire bloody ipad and it feels like a downgrade in speaker quality compared to my ipad mini (1st gen).

If you must get an apple tablet, consider the pro or just get the s2

        • @PVA: Ah righto. I've got a Galaxy S5, and a badly cracked iPad 4. I was looking for a new tablet to replace it, but wasn't sure which I should go for, just knew that the S2 and the iPad Air 2 were quite popular and comparable. In all honesty, my family uses it for YouTube and whatever apps my little brothers are into (seems like Snapchat, Skype, CSR Racing, Steppy pants etc). Reflecting on it, maybe I should look for cheaper tablets- there doesn't seem to be any demanding apps we'd use..

So I guess the key points I'm looking for are lightness and portability, kick as screen, decent processing power/RAM…

        • @Hunga: Thanks dude, that's interesting to hear about that problem. Definitely something I'd test in store on both tablets.

        • @shrugies:
I struggled to find anything wth a decent screen at a cheaper price than the S2 to be honest.
The S2 was for my wife (she had an Asus with a good screen but it failed and always had problems), anything cheap seem to have average specs for screen res. and I like how both the s2 and air have got the square-ish 3x4 screen and not the wide screen other tabs have.
Ipad pro is for work but gets a lot of home use.
someone mentioned about the air having poor speakers, the pro has 4 speakers and is fine. s2 speakers are good (and loud)

If you dont need 4G and a sim, save money and just buy a wifi model - I would get this $540 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-SM-T813NZKFXSA-Galaxy…

dont get me wrong, both are great, tablets have a really long life so get something good.

        • @PVA: Thanks for the detail and helping me out!

The cellular version of Air 2 (an older model) is $658.4. Plus it's grey import (whereas S2 is local) and non-expandable (whereas S2 has expandable memory). So unless you prefer/have specific reasons of staying with Apple 'ecosystem', I would highly recommend switching to S2.

    • different os it's like asking do i go windows or linux.

    • well i have android and IOS tablets and the ipads always have better resale value when i upgrade and sell the old ones ….. so it's not just purchase price but overall totally ownership costs ( buy use sell) .

i went with the tab A 10" for $360 for my android needs and will get a new ipad to upgrade from my 32GB which will pass to my son and his 16GB goes onto ebay and will sell easily .

my nexus 7 tablet ….. for what it will fetch i don't think i can even bother ebaying it …..

  • Isn't a new Nexus tablet about to be released?

    • Based on the anticipated specs the Nexus 7 2016 will have SD820 or Tegra x1 I hardly doubt it, given the ~$350 AUD price point.

  • So it uses SD 652 now?

I know it's a good SOC, but isn't that a value range SOC for a flagship tablet?

    • you buy nexus because offer good android upgrades for a long time .and are first to market with the new versions of android.. other android tablets aren't so good in long term upgrades, also nexus have a clean version of android no bloat.

Most Nexus products don't have expandable memory which is a big deal for me.

They also aren't cheap like they used to be.

  • I've got an S2 8inch LTE (although I always keep it on airplane mode with wifi on) and I find the battery life no where near as good as my iPad Mini 2. Also, the touch ID rarely works (works brilliantly on my Nexus 6P). It took a year for Samsung to release a Marshmallow update, and I'm not a fan of the Samsung bloatware either.

Consider this link. Is it worth spending extra for 4G.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/249174

    • That link is for older (now discontinued) 32GB 2015 model (T815). Also, as far as 4G is concerned I would say it's individual preference as in if you wish to have a data SIM and GPS or OK without it. 4G does add the costs significantly, be it Samsung or Apple.

Would kind of expect upgraded specs for the same money anyway given the passage of time.

Good deal if you want this model right now, but it's been so long since real Tab S2 bargains, like when stores had them at their own significantly discounted prices, and the eBay coupon would work on top of that.

        • I do agree as this discount is just on the RRP. However, given that it is recently launched model and has 32gb more internal memory, being $120 dearer than previous version's deal is kinda expected. I'm sure it'll get cheaper in let's say 6 months or so. But for now and esp if someone is claiming TRS, it's not a bad price.

        • @singhdeals: Do they have any wifi models for cheaper?

        • @lostn: Yup mate, that's at bottom of description, WiFi version for $559

        • @singhdeals: It still uses the same SOC right? I can't quite trust product descriptions on ebay. They are likely to be stock specifications ebay keeps.

        • @lostn: I believe so mate. This is updated T813 while the older SOC one was T810. Cheers!

      • Older model seems pretty similar:

"…The upgrade, however, comes with a good part and a bad one. While the new 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm chip used, namely the Snapdragon 652, offers better CPU performance, its graphics performance is slightly weaker when compared to the Exynos 5433 SoC.

Leaving aside the updated Android version and the new processor, we find that the other features remain the same…"

  • Any s2 wifi only deals?

    • you would have to track down the older model, this post is for the newer one.

      • The new model seems to be a downgrade in real life usage according to some reviews

  • Hi guys 8 inch vs 9.7 inch, what size is better? Also, black or white you guys recon? Difference is approx $125..
