  • Not negging this deal as its a ripper - but realistically its more around $840 unless you get the most favourable cross rate or the aussie picks up a percent or two.

    • Yeah make sure to use a fee free card for the lowest possible price. Google converts it to $830 and Mastercard converts it to $831, so it should be pretty close.

  • -7

Can we claim TRS if we buy from Amazon?

    • +18

you cant claim back what yuuou didnt pay.

  • International Warranty?

    • Don't think there's international warranty

      • They're big enough that they should

        • -1

They're big enough that they should

So using that "logic" every company that operates in multiple countries should for every product.

        • -2

          @Maverick-au: Apple do

      • Lenovo will sell you one for another $65

  • +4

    Any warranty at all?

  • +1

Any idea if this is a close-out or when it ends?

I'm contemplating it as a grad gift for my daughter- she's going to uni next year for gaming/graphic art design.

    Ta

    • This is a daily deal which ends 5pm AEST tomorrow.

    • +2

      Too heavy for her.

    • +1

Too big and heavy for uni. Battery life prob not great for uni either.
She needs more a ultra book sized thing for taking there.

      • +2

She currently carries a standard 15.6 Toshiba to high school. The screen size is due to her using a Wacom graphics tablet with it & she needs the real estate for her drawings…Also, she'll have a lab where she'll be a lot of the time to plug-in.

Sorry, I should have said. The specs say it's fairly light?

She'll be heavy into Photoshop & 3D rendering, etc…so I don't want something too light-weight performance-wise, but I can't really afford a lot of $$$$ because I also have her bro gradding uni & needing an upgrade, as well!

        :P

        • +3

Don't send her to uni with this monstrosity! It's cruel. She will be laughed at and there is no coming back!

        • I would wait. With the new nvidia pascal gpu 10XX release last month - you might be able to get a decent laptop with a 1070 in it by January 2017. Pascal appears to be a massive step forward as there are not any performance differences between desktop and laptop version. Running VR or 4k 60fps games on the 15 inch monitor is going to be interesting!

        • A 13 inch screen with the same resolution has the same screen real estate.

I am not trying to force something on you just going by my son at year 12 and others I know at uni.. Size and weight is a big thing to decide on.
Maybe chat with your daughter or even uni to see what they think.

I know it's hard to look past the specs at this price though, I just think it's too big for uni.

  • The local Lenovo offers that TA posts are on par with this or better

    • +6

Don't think so. The GFX cards are usually inferior AMDs, as well as lower RAM and either smaller SSDs or a slower HDD.

Yeah this deal has better CPU, graphics & SSD
But less battery life & less ram

        Depends what you're after

        • +7

NitPicking but that has a 1Tb regular drive over this deals 256Gb SSD . I'd take the SSD any day but like you say I guess it depends on what your after .

        • Also don't be fooled by i7 vs i5, that is a dual core i7 vs. quad core i5. This i5 beats that other deals i7 in almost everything.

Also, it is in no way better graphics, a GTX 950M literally wipes the floor in every benhcmark compared to that other deal you linked!

And I would also agree a 256GB SSD is better than a 1TB HDD, so all three are your points are invalid really.

        • @psyclone1982:
Just on that, do you see this as a better deal - http://www.cfonline.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&p…

Having a quick compare the i7 4720HQ rates slightly higher than the i7 6000HQ (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ-vs-Intel-Core-i…) so I assume it would be better than the i5 600HQ.

Just trying to find the best deal I can and the Asus seems to have a touch screen. The one above only has 1TB but for an extra $140 it a SSD can be had http://www.cfonline.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&p…

Just after some advice as not too up to speed with these things. I don't game on them but I need them for photo editing, graphic design and web design.

        • @worthy1:

          http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-Lis…

The above link compares the three processors mentioned so that i7 4720HQ is def. a step up from the i5 6300HQ.

That being said the 940M is a big step down from the GTX 950M in terms of gaming performance.

          http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark…

So depending on what you wanted the laptop to do, would depend on which one is better really, gaming, this deal, more CPU intensive tasks, then i'd go for the one you linked.

I would say overall however this laptop in this deal is better value.

        • @psyclone1982:
Thanks for the info. Its been hard to search as I want best bang for my buck and never had a touch screen laptop before so not really sure I need one until I try.

The other option was holding off for another Inspiron 15 7000 deal

        • @psyclone1982:
Sorry to bug you again but whats your thoughts on this - http://www.cfonline.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&p…

Seems to get good reviews, but not sure if its older tech that other better deals (like the inspiron 15 7000) will come up.

The 20% off binglee and dicksmith has started but not sure there are any laptops there that will be awesome with the discount

  • Damnnnn, bought the one from the last deal. This is a really good price!

  • This notebook looks like an upgrade to my rather dated i7-850 with a R9 280x…don’t game much anymore. Can anyone convince me to buy this :D?

    • +2

sounds like you're doing a good job of talking yourself into it now ;) … keep contemplating :)

    • +15

You'll be doing yourself and your family a great disservice if you don't buy this laptop. Will your children's children laud or loathe their grandfather's actions back in 2016? It's up to you.

      • seems like i have some explaining to do in my will to my great grandchildren then…
no order was placed today :(

  • nice graphics card but no displayport (hdmi only)

    • How often do you see laptops come with a displayport? In general, mobile GPU (950M in this case) is too weak to run games at resolutions higher than 1080p or more than 60fps to actually maximise a DP connection.

      • the gpu is powerful enough to output 4k resolution so it will be nice to connect an external monitor. this is hardly a gaming laptop

  • +1

Do Lenovos not come with nipples anymore?

    • +6

      Confirmed boobies not included.

    • +1

      Download Code included.

    • +1

      Thats only on thinkpads

    • +1

My high school teacher once referred to it as another …more intimate… woman's part.

  • +4

Its funny but if you choose upgrade options the 16GB ram i7 with 1TB hdd and 256 ssd is cheaper than the same with 128ssd by more than $200!

  • Depending on the bank you WILL be charged a conversion fee. As I quite often do overseas shopping using a Visa Debit NAB card, from my experience there would be ~$50 conversion fee. Also, the exchange rate varies every second, so any time you press the pay button the price will be different which means no two purchased laptops will have the same price in Aud $. Google won't give you a correct indication of the exchange rate as it shows the market and not the bank's rates.

    • +1

Yeah which is why its recommended that you have a fee free card such as 28 degrees or bankwest zero for amazon. I've posted a few GTX1080 deals and those who used 28 degrees were pretty close and never more than $10-15 over, and sometimes under due to exchange rates.

    • +1

Coles Prepaid Mastercard is also foreign fee free until 31 Dec 16. Plus you'll rake up Flybuys points (if thats your thing).

    • +2

Get a MasterCard loaded with USD and you'll never have to worry about conversion fees. It's what I do ;)

      • Can you please tell me how do i do it. I have some USD banknotes, would the bank accept them? Please elaborate. Thank you

  • How's amazon's return policy on big ticket items like these? i.e. if it arrives DOA? or dies a month in.

    • One year warranty and they pay you the return cost. They haven't specifically stated this in their T&C, though.

    • +2

      On the product page:

"Amazon.com Return Policy:You may return any new computer purchased from Amazon.com that is "dead on arrival," arrives in damaged condition, or is still in unopened boxes, for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Amazon.com reserves the right to test "dead on arrival" returns and impose a customer fee equal to 15 percent of the product sales price if the customer misrepresents the condition of the product. Any returned computer that is damaged through customer misuse, is missing parts, or is in unsellable condition due to customer tampering will result in the customer being charged a higher restocking fee based on the condition of the product. Amazon.com will not accept returns of any desktop or notebook computer more than 30 days after you receive the shipment. New, used, and refurbished products purchased from Marketplace vendors are subject to the returns policy of the individual vendor."

If they don't honour it after 30 days, I'm heading to the states Mid-November, happy to load up on dead Lenovo's and do a mass return on behalf of OZB ;)

  • I read it has a second SSD slot- can anyone confirm?

    • It seems to have a M.2 slot, as well as a standard 2.5" bay. Source.

According to the reviews on Amazon, this one comes with a 256GB M.2 drive installed, so you'll have a free 2.5" slot.

Also interested if anyone who has one can confirm.

      • +1

I bought one from the last deal, I can confirm that there's a free 2.5" slot. (Installed a 1tb ssd from another deal)

You have to take the whole bottom piece off to access it though, there's no easy access panel for RAM/HDD. (Not too difficult)

        • As a certified owner, how does it perform? What do you use it for? any gaming, photoshop, high-end stuff?

  • +2

Anyone know if it's possible to purchase additional warranty on it seeing that lenovo doesn't offer international warranty on it?

    • Also interested to know this.

Can we and if so how much for 1yr/2yr/3yr etc.

  • +1

I'm not sure if this machine is affected, but there is an issue with some new Lenovo computers and Linux.

    Here's the relevant Reddit thread:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/53rq2l/warning_…

    • I wiped mine (every partition) and installed Win7 on mine, haven't tried any linux distros though.

  • A good review, mentioning it's pros and cons, for anyone who is considering purchasing the laptop.

    https://youtu.be/Q-VIMwQuBqY

  • anyone know of anything like this in a 17.3 inch size?
    (as in a good deal).

  • This is an awesome deal.
I almost bought when it was about $940, but then I realized I don't really need it.

  • Just placed an order and it said it'll arrive Mon, March 6?

    • Wtf??

Is that a typo? Has anyone else purchased & can provide their ship date?

      • Never mind, the date changed once the order was processed. Estimated 5/10 - 10/10

  • Deal dead.

  • +1

    Anyone received this yet?

Amazon delayed my order indefinitely, right when it was supposed to be delivered.

    • Order got cancelled due to 'hazardous materials' in this product. Did anyone actually receive this?

      • Yeah got the same BS… order originally delayed. Clicked yes to delay it. Then several days later checked order status to see it had been cancelled with no notification. Emailed to check why, they first said check with amazon.com.au (??) then got a follow up email saying cancelled due to hazardous materials. Generic apology, but ropeable. Doubt they could even deliver on their orders and have come up with this to cancel the order. Why have it on sale in the first place? Complete BS.
