can I take out the internal drive and use it on a NAS?

    • I recommend you get a 3TB Red instead, currently around $140.

      • from where?

Seagate has in previous years had issues with their 3GB hard drives.

More generally, for whatever reason it seems that 3GB hard drives from Seagate, WD, or Toshiba (with the exception of HGST or Hitachi which is now part of WD) are generally less reliable than other variants:

I'll +1 this, I have no problem with Seagate, I'm running 6x 4tb's at the moment fine, but i'd never buy one of their 3TB's

I use two 3TB Seagate drives and have had no issues with them over the 2 years or so I've had them.

  • How much are these normally???

    • No expert but looks to be about $130 plus.

  • Not the quietest enclosure I've seen (heard).
