looks good, just note in the next 12 hours GoPro is going to announce their drone called Karma on their website.

Probably not going to be cheap but good to see the diff

    • From everything I've seen it looks like two different markets. DJI for aerial photographgy, GoPro for action drones.

    • Looks good, but how much?

  • +1

oh my, why do i open ozbargain today :(

  • Is this the Professional or the Advanced?

    • -1

      Looks like the Pro.

    • It's not the professional, but RRP puts it a bit above the Advanced…
Advanced only has 2.7K camera too

      • It's the standard with a 4K camera.

        • +1

          Yeah just saw

Range is the main difference between them (from a quick skim)

The claim of 5km on this model is WILDLY exaggerated. You will get a few hundred meters at best; this is because this model uses off-the-shelf WiFi rather than DJI's proprietary Lightbridge protocol.

I've used mine to photograph a few offshore locations; if you intend this as a serious hobby I'd highly recommend avoiding this model. You'll be much better off with the P3P or P3A.

    • The claim of 5km on this model is WILDLY exaggerated.

Just took that line out, even DJI state it's about 1200m

    • Just keep in mind too that "if you intend this a serious hobby" it's illegal to fly your drone out-of sight, so 1200m is more than enough :)

      • How does lightbridge make it fly further, isn't that only to do with the FOV?

        • Lightbridge handles both video feed and RC signal

      • In controlled airspace - so around cities (which is an oversimplification).

If you're well out in the sticks, you won't be bound by the same conditions (height and distance) - and this is where some of the most spectacular photography can be had :)

  • You can get the Advanced model for same price from DWI…

    Grey 3A or 3-4k local warranty, hmm…

    • but I assume maybe the kogan version has gst which you can TRS at airport? I got a overseas trip upcoming in 2 months

      • probably not, as its most likely invoiced from their HK Branch and sent from HK.
Quite a lot of their stuff is grey import and their invoice do not state tax at all.

        • This is Aus-stock, not grey :)

      • Yeah you can, aus stock here, not grey (for once lol)

        • Ahhh surprising…… haha

        • hey spack, how did you figure out it's australian stock? there's no mention about it that I can find, I'm looking at a Phantom 4 from DickSmith btw

          @enzioFirenze:

Postage: FREE Standard Postage | See details

          Item location:
          Melbourne, VIC, Australia

Their grey-import stuff will have a HK location

        • +1

@Spackbace: fair enough, I'm gonna ask that question just to be sure so that I can claim GST as well ;) that actually makes it a good price for local stock and warranty :D Thanks mate :)

        • +1

          @enzioFirenze:

All good, that's a hellova drone lol

        • +1

@Spackbace: oh yeah, she's a beauty ain't she? should be replaceable by the next Karma gen I think.

    • Got a link?

This is ~$1,100 (once customs adds on GST).

  • I bought the P3 Advanced during the Banggood birthday sales for $930, so this is a pretty decent deal.
I researched the P4 and the P3 models a lot before settling on the Advanced. All the advice I received was go the P3A, so I'll pass that on to you guys as well.
I can extrapolate on the reasoning for this if you'd like, but all that info is pretty readily available to you. Basically though, the P3Pro and the P4 are the only models better, but probably aren't worth the extra $$$.

    • I just went ahead and bought the P3A from DWI ebay. I've also read lots of info saying the P3A represents best bang for buck it you don't want/need 4k. Interested in your personal opinion on why and now you've got it, have those reasons been validated?

      • Guessing this is better than the Parrot Bebop 2?

  • +3

no lightbridge on this model paying the premium for the 4K camera.

  • not sure if i should get it or not, can you get a refund if none of my elderly neighbors sun bake nude.

  • I know it's not exactly the same (grey) but a friend got the P3 Advanced from DWI for $900 a few months ago with an eBay sale.

    • Its $850 atm

  • Anyone got a lead on best price for spare battery?

  • Damn picked up the parrot hydrofoil drone from jbhifi last week, bought a cocoon voyager fpv drone from Aldi today now seriously considering buying one of these…….

  • So i ended up getting a Phantom 4 :D cost just under $1700 for Aus stock and should be at my address in two days!

    • Expensive day lol

      • yesterday i had to pay the first months rent at my new place and about 5 bills so now i have… $200 in my account :'(

  • What about the follow me mode drones? I saw a C2 or something like that on eBay for $900 minus 16.25%. What do they lack over the Phantom 4k Kogan one (which shows a video of the professional model, but selling the 4k).

  • Gopro announed their drone last night, its usd799 drone alone with no camera (works with gopro 4 as well i think)

    Or with camera $1099usd

Comes out October but not sure when in Aus

    • Going to be $1200 aud for the drone by its self, over priced for the specs i think.

      • You know when it out in Aus?

Yeah i think the phantom got more bells and whistles but the karma comes with detachable goPro so that the extra benefit.

So get a phantom by itself then pay extra for gopro or just spend on a gopro/karma combo, that the choice.

  • Just purchased a 2nd hand phantom 1 for under $200 couldn't justify spending ~$850 on a new one even if it has a few more bells and whistles.

    • But Phantom 1 didn't come with a camera… you fitting a gopro to it?

      • Yes purchased a go pro original for it.

        • Did you get any logs/stats about the motors usage from the seller?

        • @GregFiona: No does the phantom record that?

        • @ausbob71: I'm not an expert with Phantom 1(I own a 3 Pro and I have all my flights saved on my DJI Go app), maybe you can ask the seller how many hours approximately he has used it. I'm only saying it cause recently a friend of mine got a second hand Phantom 2 and one of the motors failed after 3 or so flights

  • Are the motors expensive to replace?
