FREE WinX DVD Ripper Platinum- Save $30ish

1130

Thanks @Savas for pointing me on to WinX DVD ripper… Went to the website to download it and found that they're currently running a giveaway for the registered version. Fully featured and with no time limits on its use but it does not support updates.

Hopefully someone finds it of use.
Cheers.

Still running free WinX DVD Ripper Platinum v6.9.2 Build 20120917.

Not sure if it is worth upgrading?

Need to remember to leave something in my will to WinRAR and WinxDVD when I die.

I'm surprised people still rip DVDs. It must be 6-7 years since I last ripped one.

It has been for me, funnily enough due to a strange alignment of the planets I needed to do this today, unfortunately this post was a few hours late

There are plenty for free apps out there …. DVDShrink used to be my go-to ripper. First released in 2004, it hasn't been updated since 2005, but still works perfectly!

        • They didn't work with this DVD, I think it was Disney copy protection

        • @Jackson: tried DVDfab, which did work. Told me that there would be a watermark if I didn't purchase the full version, however there wasn't, it was literally a 1-click process. It might be that during the trial there is no watermark.

And by DVDfab I mean specifically DVD Copy process, which is a bit like the old dvd shrink, in that it recompresses the mpeg2 stream to the size of a single layer disc and strip's the menus by default. This actually wasn't what I meant to do but at least there is now some software on my computer that I know will get past the encryption so I can get it on my tablet

        • Yeh it's been a while but DVD Shrink used to handle most of stuff I threw at it.

For anything else I used to use Ripit4me

        • …except DVDShrink doesn't work on Windows VISTA or newer OS, I would know because I already tried… Only XP and older…

        • @Zachary: I have dvdshrink on windows 8.1. There isn't anything I haven't been able to copy yet.

Another open source alternative is handbrake. But you need to get the right version of libdvdcss from videolan :) https://www.webluke.net/2011/08/handbrake-windows-7-64-bit-d….

        • @Zachary: If you have trouble run it in compatibility mode

        • @poohduck: Oh really? That's strange then…whenever I try to run it, it just throws an error and the doesn't start…. :/ So I've stopped using it and uninstalled it…and just been using nero to copy whole DVDs instead…

@Robydc: If I remember, I did use windows XP compatibility as that was the last OS that was working fine with it…

        • @Zachary: My dvd shrink version is 3.2. As far as I know that is the last version. I don't run in compatibility mode. I did try dvdfab, and didn't like it, which is when I went to dvd shrink (still good) and handbrake. Handbrake converts to mp4; I like it but it is slow.

        • @poohduck: Hm alright I'll try it out again on my lappy. Hmmm, strange, now it won't work or nothing appears, no GUI; last time it would flash an error saying can't run it or something, forgot the specific reason why it wouldn't run, but I remember I would get a big window with a Red X a couple or so sentences saying it won't run….

Mine's version 3.2.0.15 from here: http://filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/tech/ Even tried compatibility mode still nothing happens…fail…

I use Handbrake, but I only use that for my fraps footages….

    • I just brought back my DVD folder to Melbourne from Perth. Time to get ripping! I have a couple hundred.

      • thankyou chadiwrx :)

      • Thanks chadiwrx, you are the best :)

  • Thanks, Adz. The last free version I had was from 2012. The "Lifetime Upgrade" looks to be reasonable value at $19.95 US.

    • Not really, give it a few more years and DVD would be obsolete just like this.

  • Good one. Thanks

  • Great horse.
