Bidets

Hey all,

Bidets aren't that common down under yet they are super useful, hygienic and cost effective so I was wondering do my fellow OzBargainers use them on their shrines?

I've been looking at a few different brands, there are some no-name brands you can get off Aussie sellers on Ebay, then there are the likes of the Luxe Neo range which looks good but is American.

Are there issues buying American bidets as far as installing the water pipe, given it's on the other side of the loo?

Any information regarding your experience with in-home bidets is appreciated :)

My mum just installed one, and the only thing I can tell you is don't get the cheap no-name rubbish.

Quality units are expensive, I think she spent about $800.

    • Was this for a full toilet w. Bidet? I'm more looking at the ones you attach to existing toilets.

        Just the seat one.

As I said, quality ones aren't cheap though.

EDIT: I think she got it from the Bidet Shop.

  • got a freestanding caroma. imo fittings are important.

After 25 years the plug stick has broken.

I bought Grohe bidet from overseas (around AU $30) and used T-connector to the pipe going to toilet. Worked fine for 3 years. No issues. Same thing in Australia was around $80.
Masters had few bidets for around $30-50.

"Bidets aren't that common down under"

Admit it, that was on purpose wasn't it?

I'd probably be looking for items from SE Asia/Japan. They seem to be kings of all things bathroom and lavatorial

Seriously. Going back to toilet paper seems like the dark ages.

"Flushable wipes" are false advertising, not good for the sewerage network.

    Happy bum happy life ;)

Started using a bidet few years ago and now I feel itchy going to public toilets

There is a website specialising in bidet (thebidetshop) that sells and recommend bidet options, have a look through them.
I went through with Ebay and bought a SS hand spray from Thailand, which still works after 5 years. The hand spray is connected to the water supply for the cistern and used glue between fittings, so no drip, and flexible SS hose. Also make sure the bidet and flexible hose have rubber seals in them.
I recommend you install a pressure reducer (to protect your bum and the bidet) and a non-return valve (Australian standard) as well.

recent trip to Thailand - I LOVED the bum gun!!!

Would love to install one here but I feel our toilet cubicle/room might need to be a bit larger and I'd think it would have to have a drain on the floor due to potential for overspray/leaks.

Certainly something to consider if we build a custom built home.

  • What happens if your hot water takes a minute or more to warm up?

The building I work in is owned by Daisho Co Ltd. They have put the Toto Washlet Bidet on/in every toilet in the building. Must be about 350 in the building. Looks like this one: https://totovic.com.au/product/washlet-tcf6412at/

    • Thanks, I was originally looking at the Toto brand because that's what the Ryokan in Kyoto that we stayed at used, but their full suites are quite expensive. I didn't even realise they do just seats.

      • No problem. Wouldn't want you to get a sh*t toilet seat.

I think people who don't use water to wash their bottoms are disgusting.

I have a Japanese bidet I received through my company (and no I don't work for a company that sells toilets).

  • Bidets

Sounds like an online auction site

  • Any recommendations for a standard toilet seat attachment? In Sydney NSW.

    Looking for two.

  • We have the Royalet RM1000 and RM2000. I think the RM1000 is sufficient, no need for memory function, customised massage, enema and child function of the 2000. It helps heaps with toilet training the kids. I can't imagine life without bidet, so thankful that our landlord is Japanese and installed these on both toilets.

    • customised massage, enema and child function of the 2000

Legit thought this was a joke, but apparently not. I'm trying to figure out the logistics of getting an actual enema just from a stream of water… how powerful would the damn thing have to be to make it up there?

I bought the Luxe Neo 120 from Amazon about 18 months ago (USD$55 inc shipping).

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A0RHSJO/ref=oh_aui_deta…

Very easy to install and it is fantastic.

    • Hey serapax, so I've received my three Neo 185's from Amazon and installed them all on my three different seats correctly, but I'm going to have to go to Bunnings buy either an extension hose or a replacement longer hose. the 15" hose doesn't reach around to the Australian tap side of the toilet on any of my toilets.

Otherwise, they look and feel great - will hopefully have them operational by the weekend!

  • Bidet is the way to go. Some bidet comes with a seat warmer and air-dry function

I don't get why some people (for example people from The Block) hate bidet so much…especially if they are renovating expensive properties
