Junk science. Junk product. May as well flush your cash away on actual snake oil.

If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck - it is probably a duck. In the case of homeopathy it is probably 99.99999% water.

      • You should probably look into the principle of Homeopathy a bit more

Explain how a product at 10^-30 is somehow efficacious when there's an impossibly small likelihood that even a single atom of the original active ingredient is contained. Or that diluting it somehow makes it stronger. I'd lump homeopathy in with crystal therapy, but at least those guys give you some pretty rocks for your money.

    • Absolutely fantastic video. I have never seen it described better and I wish it were more common knowledge. Of all the pseudoscientific remedies, I think homeopathy is one where informing people will actually make a difference. Once most people are made aware of the homeopathic method and the utterly implausible nature of their claims, they will be very unlikely continue to support the industry.

Some people think homeopathy is just a placebo and that it doesn't cause harm, however it can cause significant harm in the form of foregone proper medical therapy. I have seen patients die from treatable cancer because they have chosen to use homeopathy instead of traditional medicine (at times, much to the dismay of their families). Homeopaths also often gives false hope to patients who have terminal diseases, leading them down expensive but fruitless treatment pathways, stopping them from coming to terms with their illnesses and using up some of their precious remaining time.

This is even more expensive than voss water

Homeopathy is bunkum. Water is cheaper out of the tap. No 'bargain' here.

Don't encourage people to stop taking conventional medication. Homeopathy has been proved over and over to be completely useless apart from a mild placebo effect so even if you insist on wasting you money on it it should only be used in addition to the treatment prescribed by a doctor, not as an "alternative" as you describe it.

    • Homeopathy has actually been proven to be less effective than placebo in most studies

    Sigh

Your contribution to this site so far has been farming for iherb referrals.

Maybe try finding an actual bargain

Talk about an intolerant bunch here. I don't believe or disbelieve homeopathy, but I respect that others may want it.

By the same logic any bargain on religious material I should neg too ? After all I don't believe in religion.

    • I don't see anybody here promoting Holy Water as vampire-repellant, or selling indulgences.

      • You know exactly what I meant.
Books, tapes, subscriptions, etc relating to one form of religion or another. They've been on ozbargain before.

Or are you telling me God really exists, therefore all religious bargains are ok by @manic rules ;)

You can respect personal beliefs while also acknowledging that this 'deal' is like posting '50% off faith healing ticketrs, highly effective!' It deserves to be called out because it preys on the ignorant and desperate, and even pushes them away from conventional medicine.

        • Religion gives people peace. A calmer head. I'm an atheist myself, but as long as it doesn't spew hate, I'm OK.

Homeopathy takes away your money and harms you.

Person taking it->does not get better, symptoms worsens ->requires more hospital treatment-> burden on tax payers

Person takes actual medicine -> gets better, less burden on tax payers.

        • There is a difference between selling a bible, and selling flasks of Lourdes Water as a cure.

I'm certainly not saying religion is less harmful than homeopathy.

        • Religion is not generally suggested to cure anything.

Anyone who is into homeopathy says it's a treatment for illness.

Religion is known to be a personal belief system that is a personal thing.

Any kind of medicine is not a personal thing, it works on everyone the same (within a certain predictable range).

Homeopathy is a belief system masquerading as medicine and health care

Respecting people's beliefs is one thing, it's called religious tolerance.

Homeopathy presents itself as medicine, which it isn't.

It's not about intolerance, it's about people being wrong and furthermore is about their choice to try and have other people adopt it when it can actually do serious harm through people not getting effective treatments for their medical conditions.

If you "neither believe nor disbelieve" homeopathy, you, at best, aren't paying attention and at worst are complicit in making people's health worse.

And no, I'm not being dramatic.

    No deal, cheaper here

  • comment removed

  • Water is much cheaper from my tap!

  • On a serious note.

Why are homeopathic things even allowed here? They pop up from time to time but they are the very definition of not a deal because at any price they are expensive because they are ineffective.

    • Where do you draw the line though?
Who will volunteer to be the police?

A lot of the supplements and cosmetics here do not deliver their implied benefits.
Would you ban Sudafed PE or other placebo-level mainstream drugs?

      • I see your point but homeopathic treatment has a wealth of scientific data stating that it is less effective than placebo.

It's a matter of evidence. There are a lot of supplements where there is at least an indication, or even biological plausibility that it had a positive effect.

The evidence is that homeopathy is ineffective and as such, even discounting all other factors, it's not a bargain because it's very expensive water.

Just on bargain criteria alone it should be disallowed.

I'd volunteer to be the science police mod of that's what it took.

I never buy homeopathic products unless they have at least a 0.00000000000001% discount. Or even better, a 0.000000000000000000000000001% discount.

    • Whoa, how do you expect them to just keep discounting like that? Even snake oil salesmen need to make a living!

      • +2

They don't need cash. Under the principle of "like cures like" then can get pay all the bills they need to by putting a bill in a bottle of water, then diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting, diluting and eventually you end up making the a solution that cures all your bills.

        • Of course, I'm so stupid!

  • +4

I tried to save money by diluting my homeopathic remedy, but unfortunately I almost died from overdose.
