I think the dogs are behind it all.
Human Sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria.
"Freebie"?
Well yeah… it is free to adopt but obviously there are costs associated with having a pet.
yeah I know what you mean - I just cringe when I see these "deals" marked as "free". But all good, no need to get hung up on technicalities :)
6months+ is still very much kitten stage
I think the 6 months comes from the fact that cats can reach sexual maturity as early as 6 months of age, hence adulthood. But yes at that age they are still personality-wise a kitten.
My friend adopted an adult cat and she is happy as anything. They don't need to be house trained, they have a lower mortality rate in early stages of ownership. Also you know the size they will grow to etc. It is also a good thing to do.
All domesticated species are a tragedy - to both themselves and the natural environment. "Food" animals arguably cause much more destruction to the natural habitat and livelihood of native species, the world over. But if you hate cats and love your cattle shot in the head you may not want to understand that.
love your cattle shot in the head
Oooooh yummy, yes please. Wrapped in bacon with an egg on top.
LOL, knew I would get negged for that comment, but it needs to be said, cats are a real issue.
I don't get your point. Because cattle / agriculture is bad (I'm assuming your meaning loss of habitat) and you say arguably worse than cats, which seems reasonable, this means that I hate cats and I love my cattle shot in the head? How many cats do you have?
Oh please. If we're having this argument then can I just add that there are 3 billion more humans on the planet than what is considered sustainable by top scientists? We're all going to die. Cats just make the journey a bit more fun.
@keeno, you lose credibility because you whinge about the environmental impact of cats yet no doubt ignore those impacting the environment the greatest - people. Just look at the deforestation that's occurred in Australia and continuing and the extinction impact that has had on many species.
I could use this argument for cane toads. Just because there are worse things does not justify something.
Putnum has a better argument that Cats are fun and we are all going to die.
Just because there are worse things does not justify something.
2 things:
Of course not. But focussing the conversation on these relatively inconsequential issues is telling of prejudices, not unlike the current obsession with Islamic terrorism even though domestic violence by "good white men" claims many, many more lives per year.
The rehoming of abandoned domesticates is not the problem - it's the breeding of them in the first place. In an ideal world all domesticates would be looked after and no new ones would be brought into existence, Denying extant domesticates the possibility to live out their lives as best as possible is a bum move considering we got them into their sad position in the first place.
Cats are not the problem . Irresponsible cat owners are the problem .
Is it school holidays already?
