109% cheaper at Bunning than Masters

    • +1

I don't see this kit on the Master's website?

    • +6

Ozito vs Bosch. Now that's a big decision!.

      • +2

The Ozito ones are not bad tbh, at this price I think I would pick the Ozito one.

It has higher torque: 150Nm compared to Bosch 130Nm
Better Warranty: 5 years instead of 2 years.

        • +2

Shit! 5 year warranty! That is awesome!

        • +2

          But not a hammer drill?

      • +2

It's only the Bosch Green range. I'd choose the Ozito. The Bosch Blue stuff however is a different thing, much better gear.

    • +5

You're negging the OP because you can find products other than the one posted cheaper? Are you new to OzB?

      • Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and personal preference.

Personally I prefer Bosch as my other drill and circular saw is Bosch 18v range. Also I have dropped my drill off of a ladder numerous times, and only suffered a few scratches. I had a ryobi drill previously, knocked it off a bench and cracked the plastic. Hence my preference toward Bosch. Mind you this was some years ago when Ryobi held the same regard as Ozito.

    • I lol'd

    • I can't find any information about that being a hammer drill? Do you have more info?

    • Not a hammer drill, man. It is just a drill driver + an impact driver.

    • +4

      Hammer Function
      No

      • -2

Percussion hammer function is useless on a cordless drill.
        Only go rotary hammer function

        • So you would use a rotary hammer drill for hanging a photo frame in a domestic brick wall? Interesting.

        • @Tiggrrrrr: yep, absolutely

        • @yoyomablue: Feel free to post a deal on a cordless rotary hammer drill then. I'll be the first to up-vote it.

  • -2

For $30 more you also get an angle grinder and twice the battery power:

    • +1

As above, can you verify this is a hammer drill please?

      • I can see you're keen on the hammer function. What do you use it for?

        • Hammering into masonry, etc I'm assuming…

        • +3

          @kevsta89:

I find the hammer function to be next to useless on cordless drills. Much better with a cheap rotary hammer for masonry etc.

        • @tightwod: yes and no- I have both, but it's been a looong time since I used the corded. Dewalt 18v.

        • @tightwod: I'm not exactly sure what you have been using a cordless hammer drill for, but I have had no issues with it as long as I keep in mind the limitation (eg, I'm not going to try and core drill into my foundations) and generally keep to holes below 1/2" in masonry (and for general use I would not need to go bigger than an M14 bolt).

I have a dedicated rotary hammer drill (corded) for serious applications, and in those cases I would normally also have a saw / angle grinder / etc in use, so would be using an RCD 4-outlet power board. For simple one tool jobs involving a small hole in masonry then I would reach for a cordless drill.

But, each to their own, and as I have said above everyone is entitled to an opinion / point of view. For me it is about convenience and ease of use.

And as for being keen on hammer function, my point was that I don't believe comparing a non-hammer drill to a hammer drill is an apt comparison. It's akin to comparing a standard washer only at $1000 to a washer/dryer combo at $1500, some people may not want a combo but some do. After all, both wash clothes…

    • +1

Lol are you just googling "drill" and coming back with Abby price that's cheaper foot anything? Oh look, here's a paperclip for only $5 for 500!

      • -1

        But it's Bosch, donchaknow?
I'm so glad I don't gullibly gobble up marketing shit like 'German made'

    • +1

      Bosch > Ozito.

    • Having had Ozito in the past, I doubt it compares to the DIY Bosch units.

  • +1

I have had this exact same kit for the past 3 yrs and it is awesome. I have built sheds, chicken coops, gates, put together ikea furniture, built carports, put on roofing sheets etc etc with these drills and they have performed very reliably. The led light on the PSB 1800 is also a handy feature. My only advice would be to invest in some good drill bit kits etc as I don't think they come with any/many ? Also, the case it comes with is a soft cloth case (well mine was anyways). Bought it from Mitre 10 years ago cuz I had a gift voucher to use there.

    • No drill bits with this one. But could always pop into Masters once the mass discounts start.

      • +2

Your mass discount sale has started …. at a disgraceful 10%. Havent master coped a hidding from this.

        • Hopefully now fathers day is over where they had guaranteed sales, they will start to discount more heavily.

        • @troyarr: Not quite. I'd say, just like DS all left over will be handed over to an auction house.

  • +2

I dunno why so many tried to compare this with some non hammer drill kit.

    • What do you actually use the hammer function for?

      • +7

        For hammer time, obviously

        • +3

          You can't touch this.

        • I can vouch for this.

      • What kind of drill function would you recommend to drill holes in internal brick walls to hang photo frames from? Or mount curtain rods? Or light switch switches?

I don't think I would be using a non-hammer drill for those applications. But that's just me I guess.

      • Drill into brick walls?

  • +6

To anyone that doesn't know what the hammer function on these drills do. They will do a very slow and LOUD job at drilling into masonry eg, concrete and bricks. You should be able to google what size and what depth they will drill to. But be warned even the best Hilti (not even sure if they make one) Milwaukee, makita, DeWalt ect are utterly horrible to use on a day to day bases. Your much better off buying a cheap electric SDS drill if your planning on doing any larger holes or use it all the time. But for around the house jobs using 6mm bits to hang pictures these will be fine.

    • +1

Agreed, and by electric SDS, you mean a rotary. I have both and don't bother using my Bosch blue destroyer ii even thoigh it can do it.

    • +2

So true. Also I've had the impact driver in this combo in another kit and at 130Nm, it's pathetic. When used for more advanced DIY like building a deck with it's 1.5ah battery, you'll be needing to recharge every 10-20 screws.

If you don't need the hammer function, there's definitely better value kits with higher specs for not much more.

  • +1

I won't buy Bosch green series again. If I'm gonna go cheap, I'll go for a $60 drill, if I want expensive I'll go Bosch blue or higher.
I paid $150 for my last Bosch with 2 batteries and got 4 years out of it, screw that.

    • " screw that"

      ;)

    • Sure. I have a pair of these, bought in March, same price. When I work on my new deck alongside the trades man, they just laugh at me. Comparing to their tools, it is a toy.
Good, the battery recharging is quick.
Bad, no tools bag or box.

  • Yeah so the PSB 1800 Li-2 has a hammer 'function' (like most multi-purpose drill drivers) but you I wouldn't call it a hammer drill.
Like someone said, if you're doing any serious amount of masonry drilling I'd get a dedicated corded hammer drill (or even better - SDS)
The PDR 18 Li is an impact driver.

    • I agree with you on the hammer function - utterly useless.
But disagree with you on needing corded.
I have a Ryobi One+ cordless ROTARY hammer drill and it drills masonry holes in seconds.
As I mentioned above, it's the type of hammer technology. Rotary destroys percussive. I got negged by people who haven't a clue about this difference.

      • This is a diy tool for people who just need a drill around the house and occasionally need to put a picture hook in a brick wall. This is exactly what you want.

If you've got a project drilling more than a handful of holes, or you need to drill something harder than just brick, get an SDS.

        • Exactly what I am looking for, picture hook in a brick wall. Thanks.

  • +1

I have this drill set and its bloody awesome, no comparison compared to the cheap drills and the Impact driver is very tough :)

  • Got this for $126 back in March. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239646

It's not a bad kit but find there is a bit of a delay from applying the trigger on to having the chuck turn. May be just the odd one. Nice and light though.

Still, it is no comparison to my $198 dewalt. Still my favourite ozbargain purchase.

  • Do Bunnings ever have deals on their Ryobi cordless accessories, including gardening?

    • Do Bunnings ever have deals on their Ryobi cordless accessories, including gardening?

      Rarely - unless it's a run-out model. They're exclusive to Bunnings.

We'll see less of these deals after Masters closes and Bunnings regains their near-monopoly status.

      • Thought so. Need hedge trimmer attachment.
