Other Driver at Fault. Cash Settlement?

Another driver (it is a company car) was at fault and rear ended my car (comprehensive insured). It was only a minor bump and scratch and I got 3 quotes averaging $500.

I'd much rather prefer the other driver to pay me cash because mine is an old car and not too worried about a few scratches.

However, he insisted to go through his insurance.

Has anyone tried requesting cash settlement from another at fault driver's insurance?
Is it even remotely possible?

his call as to how to fix his mistake

you have no choice in the matter

i think you'll find his insurer will say that any existing damage precludes a decent repair

    good luck dealing with them

I think he is just trying to cover himself from being scammed.
There is nothing stopping you from doing an insurance claim after getting $500 cash from him.

Also, getting someone to rear-end you is a common scam used to extort money. Simple google search / youtube will tell you that.

    • fair enough if the company is trying to cover itself through insurance. Do insurance normally settle via cash payment to me? or otherwise?

      • Usually, the insurance company would have their preferred repairer near your place, and you are expected to drive your car there, and pick it up when repairs are done. No cash transaction at all. (Alternatively, you can legally choose your own repairer, but you would need to provide 2/3 quotes from different repairers to the insurance company.)

Can you get cash? Legally speaking, nope. But you can always find a dodgy repairer who is willing to do an insurance claim for you, and not repair your car but instead give you cash. (I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS!)

lol u dont recommend this, have you got a story to share with that or?

        • @Thenarrator: Nope, never done anything as dodgy as that.
Just pointing out the fact that the only way to get cash is by doing something illegal, which I obviously do not recommend.

only a minor bump and scratch

an old car and not too worried about a few scratches.

then why worry about it at all?

or are you actually saying you just want the cash?

  • Another driver (it is a company car) was at fault

Company car means company will pay the premium (in most cases). why would he want to put himself out of pocket?
Also in the case it wasn't, the excess for a claim can be less than $500 and would cover both his car and yours.

    • yes, but how would their insurance settle this claim? have you tried requesting cash settlement before?
