Can someone clarify? Does this cable have a micro USB connector or USB 3.0 Micro Type B plug?

    Beware guys!!! (lol $2)

    • -5

FFS - it is USB 3.0

What connection is on the end on the micro?

      It is USB 3.0

Can someone clarify? Does this cable have a micro USB connector or USB 3.0 Micro Type B plug?

      It is USB 3.0

Why do people have to ask these stupid questions?

      USB 3.0

      • Will this cable charge the Nokia 3310 I just purchased from AliExpress?

        • Nokia 3310

Unfortunately not - Nokia's engineering team determined that a Micro USB connector is much too frail to be suitable for the 3310.

Image tells me USB Micro Type B but spoecs tell me micro usb..

    • I asked the support staff just now after reading the comments. They said it is USB Type A to micro USB. If you are still not sure which one it is, I would suggest to go on to Kogan and start a chat at the bottom right-hand side of your screen. I asked the sales department and he confirmed it was a USB Type A to micro USB.

      • Is it USB 3.0 Micro type B or USB 2.0 Micro Type B???

I have a feeling people are going to be surprised when they receive a USB 3.0 Micro Type B that can't plug into their phones.

          IT IS USB 3.0

        • Read the TITLE. It's USB 3.0 . I took a screenshot of it too here

        • -4

I have a feeling people are going to be surprised when they receive a USB 3.0 Micro Type B that can't plug into their phones.

          Why would they be surprised?

It's a USB 3.0 cable, so it has USB 3.0 connections on both ends, and even has USB 3.0 wiring inside.

If it had a Micro USB 2.0 connector on it, then it would be a USB 2.0 cable.

But no… this is a USB 3.0 cable, so it has USB 3.0 connectors on it. One end is a USB 3.0 Type A, and the other end has a Micro USB 3.0 Type B (there is no other kind anyway).

Some phones have Micro USB 3.0 - My Samsung Note 3 uses Micro USB 3.0, but I use a Micro USB 2.0 cables for charging because it's smaller.

Anyway, there is absolutely ZERO confusion here. This is a USB 3.0 cable.

      • DId they specifically confirm it's NOT USB Micro B (Micro and Micro B are different types).. As CC said image says its micro B. ref: http://blog.showmecables.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/usb-…

        • That link is completely wrong.

    • -1

Image tells me USB Micro Type B but spoecs tell me micro usb..

There is no such thing as "Micro USB"

The image shows USB 3.0 Type B

The product title says it is USB 3.0

The specs tell us it's Micro USB 3.0

"*Seamlessly and rapidly transfer large files back and forth between devices using the Micro USB 3.0 to USB Cable (1m). *"

Hey, guess what…. IT IS MICRO USB 3.0 TYPE B

      PS: That is USB 3.0

PPS: There is no other kind of Micro USB 3.0 connector

PPS: This is a USB 3.0 cable.

      • Thank you. I don't understand what they are confused about? The title clearly says USB 3.0! If you even zoom in to the picture, you can see it's not the standard micro USB 2.0

        • -4

I don't understand what they are confused about?

LOL - I cannot work it out either.

Smart enough to buy Eneloops, but too dumb for this deal?

Oh, and guess what? This is a USB 3.0 Cable.

  • +1

Has anyone tried the regular 2m micro USB cables for $2?
Want to make sure they are actually able to carry a large amperage for rapid charging.

    • +1

They're not. I'd save your money and get something much better quality. Try your local Spotlight = they have braided ones that work well.

      • How much are the spotlight braided ones?

I could only find these on the website:

        https://www.spotlightstores.com/home/hardware/ms-fix-it-ipho…

The Target ones are $10, but only support 1A, not 2A. They are good otherwise, with a good hook on the micro usb end.

        • +1

From memory they were $5.95 - might have been $6.95 either way it's definitely cheap for a high quality cable.

The downside is that most stores have sold out now. I went back for a 3rd cable a few weeks ago and it was the last one in the shop.

  • O.k… I think some people are getting confused as they do not understand that the USB 3 cable comes with the Type B end and not a Type A end, which is more common for phones for example and that for some reason, you cannot buy USB 3 with the more common Type A end.

I hope I got that right.

I'm not tech savy, and I'm sure others are the same.

I think some people are getting confused as they do not understand that the USB 3 cable comes with the Type B end and not a Type A end,

This is a USB 3.0 cable that has a USB 3.0 Type A on one end, and a Micro USB 3.0 Type B on the other end.

and not a Type A end, which is more common for phones for example

Most Android phones don't use Micro USB 2.0 Type A. They use Micro USB 2.0 Type B.

The end that plugs into the charger is a USB 2.0 Type A.

you cannot buy USB 3 with the more common Type A end.

Yes, you can. But not Micro USB 3.0 Type A, because that doesn't exist.

You must think that the A and B mean something completely different to what they actually define.

Look at this table on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Host_and_device_interface_…

      • Thanks mate. It's doing me head in.

        • -2

Interesting that some idiot negged me for clarifying this.

There is no need to get confused.

Modern phones come with 4 kinds of connectors.
          a) Apple Lighting
          b) Micro USB 2.0
          c) Micro USB 3.0 (rare, mainly older Samsungs)
          d) USB Type C (new models)

That's pretty much all there is to it. Don't worry about all the A and B - that is what causes the confusion.

      • so means, you can't use with calbe to charge a galaxy s4 or a htc m7, right?

        • I have no idea, but you are overly complicating it.

Just look at your phone, and check it's specs.

          Is it USB 3.0?

Yes - then you can use this to charge and transfer data

No - then this cable will not fit.

HOWEVER - even if it did have USB 3.0, you wouldn't want to use USB 3.0 as a charging cable, as it's to thick and stiff, with an large and ugly and hard to insert Micro USB plug.

For charging you only need USB 2.0.

    [@llama]

Micro Usb Type B and Type B superspeed are 2 different connectors. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Host_and_device_interface_…)
The description states Micro Usb type B but the image has a Micro Usb type B superspeed connector

So that is why people are confused.

    For everyone else:

Generally there are no Usb 3.0 cables of Type A to Micro Usb Type B (Non super speed - the ones you use normally for charging most phones).

So the description/Sales reps are wrong by not clarifying correctly

Assuming the image is correct and regarding the availability in generally I would say that this is Usb 3.0 cables of Type A to Micro Usb Type B SuperSpeed the type you get with External hard drives on the rare occasion a tablet or phablet/note phone

    • Micro Usb Type B and Type B superspeed are 2 different connectors

Yes, of course they are. Not sure why you are linking to the page that I already linked to, and are trying to explain to me what I have already written?

The word "Superspeed" is the very confusing but technically correct name for what we all call "USB 3.0". If you want to be pedantic and use that, then you also need to use the correct name for USB 2.0, which is "USB Hi-Speed"

Micro USB Type B is used for USB Hi-Speed (USB 2.0) connections
Micro USB Type B Superspeed is used for USB SuperSpeed (USB 3.0) connections

The description states Micro Usb type B but the image has a Micro Usb type B superspeed connector

Yes, and that's because NOBODY would know what a "Micro USB Superspeed" connector is.

So that is why people are confused

Well, just imagine the confusion if everyone called them by their "real names"
      Hi-Speed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#/media/File:Certified_Hi-S…
      and
      SuperSpeed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#/media/File:SuperSpeed_USB…

      For everyone else:

Generally there are no Usb 3.0 cables of Type A to Micro Usb Type B (Non super speed - the ones you use normally for charging most phones).

Not "generally"…. NOT AT ALL. A USB 3.0 Cable has 9 conductors inside it. A USB 2.0 cable has 4 conductors inside it. A Micro USB Type B plug has 5 connectors, but the 5th pin is used for OTG. If it's got one or more USB 2.0 ends on it, then it can only ever be USB 2.0 since there are 5 pins missing that are required for USB 3.0.

The simple fact is that this is a USB 3.0 Cable, with Full Size USB 3.0 plug on one end and a Micro USB 3.0 plug on the other end. Calling it anything else is just adding to the confusion in this thread.

However, from the negs that I am copping, it seems that there is no confusion, and thus no tutoring is required.

  • I got a couple of these for $1 a year or 2 back and they're total rubbish. They won't charge faster than a trickle (if they charge at all), constantly disconnect and sometimes won't connect at all. Don't waste your money.

    • I got a couple of these for $1 a year or 2 back

No, you got the micro USB 2.0 cable which had been for $1 and now the prices have gone up. This cable is a micro USB 3.0 cable which has never dropped below $3 until now, you are getting confused with the two cables.

This cable will most likely not charge your mobile device which many times comes with a standard micro USB port (USB 2.0), e.g. Pretty much every phone nowdays which doesn't use USB type-C or a lightning connector, apart from a few early galaxy note phones.

This isn't an upgrade to your standard micro USB 2.0 cable to make your phone charge and transfer data faster; this will not fit in to a mobile device which uses micro USB 2.0 connection. This can be useful for transferring files from hard drives and other storage devices etc.

For the ones getting mixed up with this Type A, Type B or Type Whatever, just have a look at your current cable; if it is the same, then you can use this, if it is not, then you cannot use this, as simple as that.

Make sure you read the TITLE before you start stating you are confused about the connection of the cable, you are simply over complicating this for your self. Have a close read, look at the picture on the site and if you are still confused, just leave it and move on. Thank you.

  • So does this charge a Samsung S6 and does it support quick charge?

    • No you cannot use this to charge your S6, please read my comment above.
