A really good thermometer.

However in the notes it states:
"NEW with packaging and calibration certificate - some of the printing may not be uniform or perfect, hence the low price. Genuine Thermapens direct from the manufacturer."

  • Wow thats an amazing price for these if it's real. (You should check I didn't). Love my Thermapen use it for so much in the kitchen just wish it had a switch between C and K button on the outside.
Edit they also have a hot coals print edition
    for the same price.

Do you mean Celsius and Fahrenheit?
Kelvin seems redundant if Celsius is on there.

      • +9

Yeah I do, I'm just an idiot sometimes.

    • Yeah these are real its the ETI Ltd ebay store, they're the manufacturer of the Thermapen

  • Hot coals design available at the same price.

Bought from these guys a couple of years ago and got the legit product. Had an issue with the order and they sorted it out very quickly…great service.

  • +20

"Manufacturer refurbished, has only been up seven people's bums."

  • You can get something similar for a few dollars on aliexpress if you're a cheap arse

    • +11

I doubt it would be anywhere near this quality.

      • -1

As mentioned during my drunken musing with the baby Q last week

refurbished, for the ETI sourced is that the plastic colour has cosmetic defects.

after my grubby bbq hands, it really is mute

As for speed, its an almost instant read

and the probe is super sharp to boot … .

        • +5

          I think you mean 'moot'
And it would have worked better with the rhyme with 'boot'.

    • +2

      Tried them they are terrible.

    • +1

Except it will be slow, inaccurate and probably fall apart in a week.

      Bargain ++

No one considering a Thermapen views a chinese POS as a substitute product. There is a reason they are looking at this specific item.

    • The key difference is speed - this is near instant and others take ages to reach the actual temp.

    • bought a clone on aliexpress for $8 and so far so good does what i expect and fairly fast read time

      • How fast? Half a second fast or 5/10+ seconds fast?

      • If you want to test it and don't have anything else accurate to reference try boiling water and ice water

        • for the first probe its a few seconds after that the probe is up to temp and its maybe 1 sec for each other use at the time

which for me is just fine when i m using to probe around a chicken

        • -1

          @J5:

That's great but useless if the temp isn't accurate and/or consistent. Out by +3°C is fine as long as it's always out by same amount and you know how much so you can adjust.

        • @OzBragain:

          its accurate just fine

    • No you can't

  • Is this any different than Amazon selling for the same price?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Classic-SuperFast-Thermapen-profess…

    • Nope, just different designs.

    • +1

They charge 10gbp to ship through amazon.

  • Both items have been relisted with 10+ available

    Utensils

    Hot Coals

    • Added to the description

  • these units have a fast response time..http://thermapen.co.uk/superfast-thermapen-3/1-classic-superfast-thermapen-3-thermometer.html

    • +9

      unlike your link…

  • great product, love mine.. ultra fast response time

    Not worth the risk…

Do you also bring your own plates and cutlery to a restaurant?

      • +16

jv would bring their own food to a restaurant.

  • +1

Can this be used as a rectal thermometer?

    • +3

Don't see why not, just make sure you sterilise before sticking it in the roast.

    • +11

The end is pointed and designed to pierce, but each to their own.

      • +1

        dick thermometer incoming

    • Can, or has?

  • Great product, very quick to register the temp.

There's no other way you can accurately cook a roast, especially slow/low temp cooking without one.

  • +2

Bought 2, one for a gift. I hope this makes me a better bbq'er. I have the beer drinking covered, now just need a rude apron to be the perfect host.

    • It will. They are great

  • This one doesn't have a backlight like the MK4 does it?

    • +1

      No backlight on these

  • +2

If refurbished isn't for you, this is $10 more: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Classic-SuperFast-Thermapen-profess…

    • +3

Thanks for that! was going to purchase this refurb one, but for an extra $10 I'd rather get new (personal preference), thanks!

  • Three things:

    1) The listings have unfortunately ended (EDIT: No it hasn't, I'm just stupid!), anyway if I wanted to purchase a new one, where would be the best place? (for an ideal price including shipping). Not sure if you can buy them in person, but I'm in Melbourne if that helps.

    2) After looking around, it was basically between the classic and MK4 version, any recommendations on which one is better and why? Or any other recommendations in the Thermapen range

2)Literally yesterday I decided to buy a thermometer to help with cooking foods (especially during bbq time in summer)and to get that consistency so it's always going to be juicy, and after looking around for recommendations, I decided on Thermapen, and the next day it pops up on Ozbargain. What a coincidence! Ozbargain knows me too well.

    Thanks in advance

    • I think the listings are back.

MK4 has longer life, backlight and auto-rotating display and is waterproof. Other than that it's the same.

  • I have been looking at a Thermapen for a little while now although I was looking at the Mk4. As far as I am aware eBay and Amazon are not authorised to sell and they have the seeming extreme policy of not provide any support or warranty if you buy from those sites.

On the top of their website they have this disclaimer.
    http://www.thermoworks.com/

Warning regarding ThermoWorks products at Amazon, eBay and other sites Less
The lowest internet prices for ThermoWorks products are available at thermoworks.com and through special offers received by subscribers to ThermoWorks emails.

Amazon, eBay, walmart.com, sears.com and their sellers are NOT Authorized Dealers. There are unscrupulous sellers at those sites who have purchased ThermoWorks products at retail prices and are then re-selling them at significantly elevated prices, sometimes 2 to 4 times the Authorized List Price. After receiving numerous complaints from customers who were victimized by those listings, we felt it was important to do what we could to warn unsuspecting consumers.

Furthermore, we have received a growing number of complaints that such sellers are offering counterfeit, copycat, stolen units, and "Open-Box" units as authentic NEW >ThermoWorks products. Thus, from January 1st of 2016, technical support and warranty coverage are only available on ThermoWorks products that are purchased direct from ThermoWorks or from ThermoWorks' Authorized Dealers. In this way we know the consumer is fully protected and we can protect our reputation for treating customers fairly.

    http://blog2.thermoworks.com/2016/02/new-warning-thermoworks…

So I am wondering if this is legit and does it actually have the claimed warranty?

    • Wow! So assuming this is correct, best place would be to purchase from their own website, I wonder if it's expensive (I haven't checked as of yet)

      • You cannot purchase from their website unless you're in the UK, at least a couple of years ago you couldn't.

You are directed to the Aussie distributor and have to purchase from them.

I paid over $100 for mine.

        • You can now - seems it will be $99USD for Mk4, plus an extra $38USD for shipping. So, you're looking at ~180AUD for the Mk4.

Edit: Sorry, Iw as looking at the US distributor site linkeb above.

However, seems you can order from ETI directly still. Assuming don't have to pay VAT, will be 65GBP for the Mk4, which put's it just over 110AUD

        • @mooboy:

Nope, you cannot purchase from them in Aus, you have to use the Australian distributor:

"Thank you for your order. This will be passed to our local distributor in Australia - Ross Brown Sales for them to process."

    • +4

Thermaworks is the US company but they are made by LTIltd in the UK.

    • +3

      @SilentDissident:

      WTF?!?!

      ETI make Thermapen.

This deal is from the ETI ebay page and they're offering 12month manufacturer warranty on a discounted manufacturer refurbished product.

    • The ebay listing is being put up by the manufacturer (ETI Ltd). Thermoworks is the US distributor.

  • +1

I bought three of these almost a decade ago and they're all still going strong. They're well worth the asking price.

  • seems to be all sold out

    • +2

Still there. Keep clicking the relisted link or go to their ebay store.

      • ahh ok found one in "seller's other items" link

  • i've been wanting one of these for ages now… was looking for a mk4 but at this price i'm down… thanks OP

  • Great for steaks.

  • These are regularly rated the number one instant thermometer in reviews, I have had one for years and love it.

  • Ended, relisted, ended relisted, ended, not available
    :(

  • ETI sell news ones on eBay for about $10 more:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Splash-Proof-SuperFast-Thermapen-…

    • ETI sell news ones on eBay for about $10 £12 more

According to eBay that's $20 more. Still much cheaper than buying locally if you want a specific colour but I bought 2x refurbished from them a couple of years ago and they're still going strong.

  • gone…. tried to buy about a minute ago. Was still available. When i went to confirm purchase it was gone. Hoping for more relistings?

    edit. relisted.

  • These are discontinued - the new model is Thermapen 4. I guess they are clearing the old stock. Great price, snap it up! I just bought one a minute ago.

    • These are discontinued

Really? You sure they're not just offering 2 models at the moment?

  • +2

I didn't know I needed this in my life… Now it is on my wish list.

  • Thanks OP, got two!

  • Would $60 for a two-part unit still be a good buy:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Therma-5-Digital-Thermometer-comp…

  • Anyone received theirs yet?

    • Got mine today

      • Strange, I asked for a tracking number last week they said it would arrive this early this week. Didn't arrive so I opened a cased with eBay and they just refunded me without any explanation….

        • odd, I mean on this end it is delivered by auspost which may lead to delays, I like to give a week extra just because ebay's predictions are based on 'carrier estimations' . Note that I purchased mine the night before posting the deal so I should have a head start.

Not sure why they would immediately refund you though.

        • @shanakatak:

Yeah UK mail has been a bit shakey for me lately. I also ordered on the same day you posted it.

    • Strange, I haven't received mine yet

  • CSHOPAUSSIE works for 10% off but need to get the total over £30 for the discount to apply…unless there's a way to change currency to AUD

  • I bought one of these - arrived this week and it's by far the fastest and most accurate thermometer we've ever had. Well worth the money!

    • -1

Then, you should upvote the deal!

      • Done, sorry I'm new to Ozbargain and didn't know what to do!

  • anyone else received theirs? so far 2 confirmed ozbargainers received theirs.

  • I got mine yesterday they looks brand new to me i cant make out its a Manufacturer refurbished one im happy with it

  • Mine arrived today, looks good. Now to test:)

  • I'm looking to buy another one of these, but the latest listing no longer includes Australia as a country to which they deliver :(
