Woolworths Rewards Not Accepted for Fuel Discount at Caltex, Rozelle

Anyone else also experiencing failure of Caltex petrol station to honour the 4c Woolies fuel discount?

In the past 3 weeks, my local Caltex (121 Victoria, Rozelle) has not given me the discount despite having more than enough on my card.

The sign out the front clearly shows the Woolworths logo and says in big, bold signage: "save 4c with Woolworths Everyday Rewards Card". I know they re-branded the program to "Woolworths Rewards" this year but I don't think that should make any difference. I know the Woolworths petrol station (not co-branded with Caltex) at Lewisham on Parramatta Rd still has signage referring to "Everyday Rewards"

Anyway, Woolies customer service is absolutely hopeless, and I'm sick and tired of buying groceries from Woolies on the premise that when I spend over $30 (we spend way more than that in our weekly shop) I will get 4c off my petrol, but don't!

I have photos to prove but don't know how to attach to this post..

When you asked the attendant why you didn't get the 4c discount what did they say?

    • +2

Attendant tries to scan the card a couple of times and says there's no discount.. which is rubbish because currently I have 4 yet to expire

No disrespect, but it's just a casual servo guy who wouldn't give a crap about customer service and the promises/program of Woolies Rewards

      • There might be a problem with the barcode on the card.

      • incidentally it seems Woolies points are interchangeable with dollar values, as in you get discounts off groceries etc…

You can go to your account on ozbargain to upload the photos there.

Back to your question, i have never got refuse, if you have 4 cents voucher stored on your card you should get 4 cents off after they scan your card, are they refusing to scan your card? If yes it is a problem, if no then may be your card did not loaded with any 4cents discount, then you need to log into your account and found out why it is not loaded?

Also they have update to the new rewards card, are you still using the old card?

    • I uploaded the photos to my Files in My Account - now what? How to attach to this thread?

Have been on the Woolworths Rewards card for months, as has everyone else, and have successfully managed to redeem the discounts since (both at the Rozelle Caltex in question and other ones).

Woolies Customer Service is terrible and incompetent. First they thought it was a faulty card so they sent me a new one (same number). What was the point of that - if it's faulty, it shouldn't be able to be scanned at Woolies when I shop.

Next they said it was no longer a co-branded servo. The signs out the front CLEARLY show "Woolworths - Save 4c" ! A search of the Caltex list of stores states that it is a dual-branded store !

Then they said that it was a store where you have to spend $5 in the store to get the 4c discount. That's a load of BS. What's the point of the Woolies logo then? Everybody knows the whole 'spend $30, get 4c off fuel' program which has been running for years.

After I sent them photos, they simply stopped replying (guess they ran out of excuses and couldn't be bothered with a single customer anymore).

All this smacks of misleading and deceptive conduct and/or false advertising, breach of the Competition and Consumer Act, not to mention probably breach of contract and plain old shit customer service. It's no wonder they are rapidly losing market share to Coles, Aldi etc

  • I suspect Woolworths is best placed to answer this question, or somebody who works at your local servo.

  • I don't think there is any problems with the 4c discount program, maybe you should see what ur individual problem is. U can check your card if it has the 4c discount by downloading their app. It's a good app for checking prices too.

If it's on ur card, just scan it. If ur attendant isn't scanning it, well that's just something u should take up with the attendant, who works for caltex as you are going to a caltex.

Ouch. I really dislike paying full price at Woolworth's petrol stations because they already start out 2cents more expensive than neighbouring petrol stations.

If you are sick of grocery shopping and relying on the Woolworth's reward card another option is to do a $30 shop without presenting the rewards card. This forces the fuel voucher to be printed onto the receipt. Alternatively you can shop at Coles where the fuel voucher always gets printed.

I've switched to shopping at Aldi, Costco and IGA and love it. The savings are instant and there's no having to mentally remember expiring vouchers/promotions to recoupe losses at the grocery store and the artificially inflated fuel prices. I'm lucky in that I live close to a Costo fuel station plus don't mind fueling at smaller chains like Metro and United.

Just so you know, some Caltex stations have split from the Woolies/Caltex arrangement, meaning they don't accept Woolies fuel vouchers anymore. I got an email from Caltex(or was it Woolies) about it, but that was a while ago now. Just because it says Caltex doesn't mean that they will accept Woolies fuel vouchers. Maybe the Caltex station should take down the Woolies logo if they don't accept vouchers anymore.

    • Precisely. But yet, they are accepting Woolies Gift Cards, so they can't make up their mind and/or have shithouse systems

I saw your reply to the other comment. It seems like it might be a system glitch at their end that they can't read your card properly. One thing to try is to download the Woolworths Fuel app so that next time you can show them that you do have valid vouchers on your card, cos I have a feeling this might happen again if your card is starting to get a bit dodgy.

  • Yep and whats worse some charge for using Credit Cards !

It has happened to me before. I think it could be a systems issue when that happens (in my case anyway). Perhaps connectivity to the central system is down or some such.
Just call them up, explain it. I think last time, they just put back the voucher into my card for next use. But they might entertain sending you a gift card for the amount you ought to get, if it has failed multiple times. I know woolworths receipts have numbers on them, so they can verify that they are legit on their system. Not sure if this is the same for fuel, but worth a try.

If you decide to ring them, please post and let us know how you go. Good luck!

PS. I have also experienced woolworths dollars which ought to be added for eligible purchases, not added to the receipt in some cases. Once I asked the store, they said the store system was disconnected from the central system or some such. Hence, my hypothesis it must have been the same thing. Amount was small, so did not bother to follow-up.

  • I have had exactly the same problem. The person at the station tried to help but couldn't do anything.

In hindsight I wonder if I could've got the petrol for free.

      You wish! :-)

  • I filled up there on Wednesday night at 1952h and the guy asked me for a woolies EDR card…

  • Not really related to the problem at hand, but one time I was in the process of paying for petrol, scanned my Woolworths card, went to pay with my ing and it was declined due to insufficient funds. There was a queue behind me, so i said "serve the next person" and stepped aside to transfer some money into my account. When ready, he recalled my transaction, then asked for my Woolworths card again. I said "doesn't it have the first one still against the transaction?" abd he said no, it doesn't keep it. So I presented the Woolworths card again and as luck would have it, didn't have any more vouchers available. He just shrugged and said bad luck. Annoyed at that, should've just stood at the head of the queue and made everyone wait.

    • Truth is there is really nothing he can do. The best scenario is that he is trained to let you know that you should ring the Woolworth Rewards number and explain situation, maybe they can put back the voucher (as has happened to me before).

If you had stood at the head of the queue, the people you will be affecting are the ones in the queue.

  • I really do not think there is a problem with the card as I use the old card and the new card, your best bet is to go online and into the rewards page and print out a copy of the rewards not yet used and take that to the servo and show them your print out and see what they have to say then, otherwise go to the fair trading with your receipt for the fuel and the print out,
