Dodo - Unlimited ADSL2+ Internet Plan for $29.90 a Month - No Contract

210

I came across this offer on internet today, not sure since when it's been running though. $29.90 p/m for unlimited ADSL2+ broadband and no contract is the cheapest plan I have ever come across for unlimited broadband internet. So far I was under impression that TPG's quite-popular $59.99 p/m unlimited ADSL2+ plan is the cheapest in the market, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Apparently Dodo has $99 set up fee, but even TPG has a similar fee. Please ignore it if it's a repeat post.

PS: The Dodo website says this plan is for metro-areas; not sure which areas it covers.

    Active phone service required.

normally active phone line is $30 for a month which it is $59.99.

    • I pay $20 for my phone contract

      • Who is your phone service provider if you don't mind sharing…

        • Also with dodo, it was ages ago but the deal I have is discount on my line rental of $10 by bundling with thier ADSL 2 internet.

I'm still on contract though and currently paying higher internet fees so would love to jump to this $29 internet deal when it expires.

        • Forgot to add I still pay extra when I make a phone call. I barely use it, if at all.

    • Telstra has the basic one around $26 per month

Does this include line rental? The TPG $59.99 includes line rental

  • It comes to out to be $59.90 p/m then. Is it? If so, then no different than TPG.

    • Pricing, Telstra Homeline Budget $25.95/month for line rental+dodo $29.90 = $55.85, cheaper than TPG.
      https://www.telstra.com.au/home-phone/plans-rates

It is better to keep line rental and ADSL separate, makes it a LOT easier to cange ADSL provider.

I know Telstra claim "you can't connect to an ADSL provider other than Telstra", but that was struck down by the ACCC as anti-competitive and therefore illegal.

Do read these instructions first if you intend to do this:

  • Yep. Doesnr include phone rental.

  • Belong is still the cheapest, $0 setup and no contract.

    • And how much p/m?

      • -2

$40 p/m for 100gb. No phone, no contract.

        • +1

Where are you getting $40/month from?

The cheapest plan on their website is 100GB (12 month contract) for $55 a month. Goes up to $60 a month if you choose no contract.

        • Fair go, I saw ads in Perth over the weekend for Belong $45/100gig (unsure of terms), noticed them because I'm on Belong $75 no contract, so u/tasmaniac's only out by $5.

        • @COR80: They recently gave me a $5 p/m discount because I've been with them for over a year, thus the $40.

        • @Tasmaniac: yeah I knew you were right

have family member with Belong, constantly experiencing drop off esp between 7pm to midnight and like almost every night
I am currently with MyNetFone $63 for 500GB, no contract , line rental is included, all calls (national and mobile) included. Not sure if the same offer now with MyNetFone, perhaps i got that deal because its a carry over from AceCommunication, worth a look /check them out if you are not after unlimited data

      • I am after unlimited data and TPG $59.90 p/m is by far the cheapest if this deal doesn't include phone line rental.

      • Have a mate in Darwin who signed up to Belong, reports similar that it's woefully slow at peak hours. By contrast I got my mother's property in regional far north Queensland onto MyNetFone and she gets faster ADSL2+ speeds than I do in central Brisbane (postcode 4000).

        • MyNetFone is a virtual ISP - they use Optus' DSLAMs, so, your mother should be thanking Optus.

        • @AlexF: Cost per month? Any installation fees? Any contract?

      • Mine area has the same issue.

I signed up Belong July last year when I moved to a new place in Reservoir. Evening internet was very slow and got a very high ping. The google and internet browsing was OK and I thought they had kind of QOS and a lot of congestion.

Cancelled the plan by formal complaint to TIO and then moved to TPG. Everything's working fine since then. I am currently on TPG $60 plan.

If you want a reliable Internet, stay away from Belong - I know it depends on different areas but Belong is NOT really a Telstra service.

For Dodo, I had quite a bit of complaint with them among my friends - they seems doing some / aggressive overselling. For $5 or $10 saving, I don't think it's a bargain.

TPG is a cost effective one (you need to do a bit of DIY and self-service on TPG but it's still way better than Dodo in regard to their call centre service quality). Keep in mind they own a bit of infrastructure but Dodo and Belong are just kind of re-seller.

  • I am with Spintel and I pay $49.95 pm for a bundle of 400 GB ADSL2+ broadband and a phone.

    • Whats the speeds/quality like on spintel?

      • +1

I was wih dodo couple mo ths back. Its reputation as the worst ISP is rightly earned. Frequent dropouts and slow speed.

With Spintel right now and both service and support has been impeccable. Couldn't be more happier.

      • Spintel service is good and broadband speed is also good, though not exceptional. Ex: We have, at times, 3 people watching YouTube simultaneously and we don't get a lag/buffering. So that should be good speed.

    • I doubt spintel with these reviews…
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/spin.html

Surely cheaper but still tough to make the move

  • +1

I have this (It's $60p/m including line rental) in Hobart and it's perfectly fine. Youtube works really well for some reason. Even when the rest of the internet slows to a crawl, Youtube still powers away at 1080p and I don't understand why but I won't complain.

    • +2

Its because they prioritise youtube traffic. They know 90% of video streaming is youtube so they make sure that works fine.

Many other streaming sites dont work so well.

      • Even when I had 100Mbps NBN most other streaming sites didn't work well :S (With the exception of Netflix. That works perfectly too)

        But yeah, it makes sense.

Posting this cause you always seem to see complaints comments more than praise comments :) Yeah I've been with Dodo for almost 2 years and have never had any problems with slow speeds (I'm in inner west Sydney). In regards to customer service and support, the few times I've had to call them for anything have been pretty painless - wait times were bad sometimes. But as far as getting things done they are quite efficient, and even offer followup calls a couple days later after my initial call. I've been with TPG and iiNet and it's pretty much been the same experience across the board.

      • Yeah, pretty much my experience too, over 12 months.

  • +3

Not A bargain. you need to add the line rental which is $30 so comes to $59.90

  • not bad

  • I use logitel unlimitted cheapest ever plus telestra phone line with internation calling pack

  • I was looking for an ADSL service a while ago to compliment my cable connection with Bigpond & from memory DODO has always had this plan @ this price. Secondly, people need to be mindful when signing up for ADSL how far away they are from their nearest DSLAM. I'm on the outskirts of the grid and connection speed would have been painfully woeful, making my decision to not bother. However in saying that, a no contract agreement whereby paying month by month gives an opportunity to "test it out", providing you're happy at forking out the first monthly & setup fees. I was tempted, but no deal.

  • I am with TPG's ADSL2+, unlimited for $59.95. I have home phone line with Telstra which I paid $30/pm (Telstra gives me $100 call credit with this ). We hardly use the home phone. The only reason I keep my phone line rental with Telstra is that I have a home alarm that is setup to call my mob if the alarm goes off. The TPG ADSL2+ home line rental use VoIP to make call, I think. Does anyone know if the TPG line works with home alarm system. I know it say it won't work with back to base alarm monitoring, but my alarm is not back to base monitoring, it simple dial my mob number and let me know the alarm has been triggered. Anyone with any experience in this type of set up? ( would save me $30 a month if I can get rid of Telstra home line) .Thanks

    • TPG's line didn't work for me when I was setting up my home alarm system with ADT.

    • From my experience some alarms can have a mobile sim attachment installed. Then go with a cheap prepaid phone sim.

      • Mine has no SIM card, it has a phone cable attached to it and the line is plugged into a phone socket in the wall. It basically has a dialler to call my mob through normal phone line when the alert is triggered. But I don't think it will work on VoIP.

    • Take a look at Excetel. Apparently their home line works with back to base alarms. Depending on your data needs might work out better financially.

I am in a similar situation to you but I only have the Telstra phone line at $26p/m + TPG $29.99 50GB plan. Ideally I'd like a cheap naked DSL plan so I can dump my Telstra line.

  • Isn't Dodo absolute rubbish though? Connection dropping out frequently? I once read someone saying it's kinda fitting they named their company after an extinct bird that couldn't get off the ground.

    • +1

I can't speak for anyone else, but before NBN, I was on this deal for 4 years and every problem I had was with me. Either modem was dead, or power supply dying or my phone wires were out of whack. Never saw a disconnect. But people that have problems could be in congested areas. Looks like I wasn't at the time.

  • I am paying $85/month adsl 2+ unlimited with dodo in regional Victoria is virtually unusable in peak times. Can anyone recommend me a new isp?

  • Metro plan..

  • +2

I've been with dodo on this plan for MANY years now… pretty much perfect service for me (im close to a cabinet tho)

    • But apparently it's not any cheaper than TPG though. I thought it's cheaper :(

  • My experience with dodo has been nothing short of great. Several years with them in regional vic, only adsl1 8mbit due to the bs phone line setup in a new estate.

Full speed all the time, we've had one day from memory where there was connection issues and dns problems but overall very happy. That said I've never used their tech support or customer service which I hear are shit. Seems people's experiences are based on their location.

  • $49.90 adsl 2+ & phone line rental including fetch tv (200gb)
