  • Ah what the heck, thanks OP gives a bit more breathing room.

  • not the best feedback on eBay going about with them… would proceed cautiously

    • +1

      The neutral and negative feedback given are stupid though in all fairness.

    • Lol I'm pretty sure most people here know Kogan…

  • +3

    First noticed this a few days ago, went with the zapals deal when it was active for an extra saving of ~$10. Both my deal and this deal are not australian products so the warranty is a bit different.

    Kogans ssd - Hong Kong

  • +2

    "Warranty Terms and Conditions: This product is BRAND NEW and comes with a 12 month Australia wide warranty."…. not the standard 3yr for ssd, so no deal

    Samsung site says
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisit…

    500GB/1TB 5 years or 150 TBW
    120GB/250GB 5 years or 75 TBW

    so 1 year warranty is misleading

      Posts from - Hong Kong, Hong Kong

      Once again, this is grey import. You get whatever warranty Kogan give you and nothing more.

      $205 @ MSY. Extra $21 buys you local warranty, and 5yrs of it!

      • +5

        I agree. Keep it local and pay the extra $21 for local stock with additional 4 years warranty.

      • Yep, paid $205 yesterday at a local MSY. Happy with it.

    • +1

      That's because this is an overseas stock from Hong Kong but Kogan themselves is offering a 12 month warranty upon themselves for this as minimum requirement by law. So for warranty you're at the mercy of Kogan when it comes to this.

      • Just like the mercy of MSY whom has a great history with warranty lol, oh the irony.

        • +4

          Buying local means you can deal directly with Samsung…

          @Spackbace:

          this has 12mths anyway. I'm not hung up on warranty as I use to be. Bought $350+ phones with no warranty 1+1 and Nokia 808, car parts from Germany & UK. So for $180 and 12mths warranty it's not a concern. Sure electronics can fail at any time, I find this to be 'low risk' tbh.

          Sometimes warranty is a con used to scare you to buy else where and I'm sure you'll agree at least in AU dealing with almost all brands you may as well hit your head against a wall. 12mths warranty on an item not known to be problematic is about as low risk as it'll get.

          @Cobrin:

          12 months and you mail it to Kogan, or 5yrs and you can go to a local service centre.

          Not to mention, we're only talking $21 here, not hundreds. Your examples of car parts and phones wouldn't have a 10% difference between local and import, they'd be higher.

          $21 isn't enough of a difference for me to not buy locally.

          @Spackbace:

          So it's not the price nor warranty that bothers you it's Kogan's warranty 12mth is it? I'm not bothered with it.

          rrp is not a bargain and that's ~$20 in my pocket for a considered low risk item, after all this is OZbargain isn't it. Which can go with other savings from other bargains and eventually end up looking quite nice on the whole.

          10% on phones come again? you can't get either of those phones in AU so if you wanted them you have no choice, it wasn't about cost it was about warranty or lack there of yet turned out just fine in the end. As far as the 1+1 was concerned to get a similar spec'd phone at the time you'd be looking at a Galaxy S5 which was far more than 10%.

          And for car parts you're flat out wrong but you weren't to know the particulars.

          @Cobrin:

          Sigh

          You proved my point about the 10% difference without realising…

          My argument is that this is only a 10% difference between grey-import + almost no warranty vs local stock with 5yrs.
          Your examples are greater than 10% difference

          @Spackbace:

          sigh lol sorry to tire you.

          let me guess you'd only own cars within warranty…

        • +1

          @Cobrin:

          Depends which brand. If I had my choice, yes, but I'm a car salesman by trade so I see what can go wrong and how much it costs.

          I find it funny that OP even got a refund, yet you still persist on arguing warranty and grey-import vs local. It's $21 ffs. Not $100. Not $500. $21 on a $184 item. To most that's a no-brainer. Most…

        • @Spackbace:

          sorry Car salesman is not a trade…job yes :P

          ffs what does the OP's refund have to do whether or not I find it a bargain….low risk item $21 less with warranty that I'll probably never need.

      • Which law stipulates a minimum 12 month warranty?

  • -1

    Hows this a deal? isn't this a cheaper deal on the same product.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-850-EVO-250GB-2-5-SATA-II…

    • That's for 250gb SSD

    • Yeah for 250Gb wait around for ~$120 deals

      • actually they're @ $109 levels…cheaper again on sales

      • I picked up one for £57.82 (~AU$100) shipped from Zapals as part of this deal (the 250gb model isn't mentioned by the poster but there were like 5 Samsung ssd models on sale) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260961

        The only thing is feedback suggests I could be waiting a little while for it to arrive

        • good deal that. I find this one satisfactory.

    Amazing first time ever - Dick Smith ebay replied to a question. In the past they just ignored all questions. Cancelled order for 500Gb given the 1 year warranty and not the 5 year manufacturer's warranty. It only takes one faulty disk (of which I have had many over the years) to get the difference is cost back.

    Umart have been excellent in replacing faulty disks - it does take time as they need to send it back to the wholesalers, but they do replace under warranty no questions asked.

    • Dick Smith eBay is not the old Dick Smith as in the past. It's now owned by Kogan and is essentially just a subsidiary of Kogan. Most of the stuff comes from Hong Kong too.

      I'm glad you saw the light :) if the discount was greater I'd say go for it, but it isn't!

      • Yes thanks for the heads up - I too support local dealers when I can.

        Samsung Australia in so far as phones have been great. There is even a Samsung phone shop in Melbourne CBD who will diagnose then upgrade the firmware in your phone for free while you wait. You have to back up data of course. Still it beats downloading and installing - which in my case was problematic and it had to be sent away as the Note 4 kept rebooting at odd times.

        I think Kogan needs to be more upfront to say it is Kogan warranty and not Samsung Australia - its ok for the seasons Ozbargainers who understand this difference, but for others it may be a little confusing.
