Free Coopers DIY Beer Fermentable (Worth up to $8.99) with Any Can of Coopers Extract (from $12.49) @ Dan Murphy's

240

Hi Folks,

This is one for those discerning OzBers who dabble in home brewing their own malt beverages. Cut a long story short DM's have been stocking Coopers very well regarded DIY Beer range for a while now. Their prices are already very close to the best you can get on the majority of the products (their International Line pricing is only $0.50 more than The Coopers Club prices and the Original Series is $0.12c cheaper, but the Thomas Coopers line is ~$5 more expensive - so perhaps avoid it!).

So on top of those already very good prices for a brief time with ANY can of Coopers DIY Beer extract you purchase you can get a free Coopers Fermentable box of your choice (Brew Enhancer 1/2/3, Light Dried Malt, Dextrose or Brewing Sugar) - worth up to $8.99@DM's. So for example, buy a cheap can of Original Series Draught for $12.49 and you can get a Brew Enhancer 3 for free.

Despite there being scant info/conditions on the deal it is currently limited to instore stock only (alas my local DM's didn't have a great range but it still worked out very well). Also…AND THIS IS KEY……it's currently only one use of this per purchase/order. So if you buy 3 cans in the one order you still only get one fermentable box. Hence I recommend placing multiple orders of single (1) can of extract and use CLick and Collect via your local DM's.

For those not overly familiar with the DM's range I would recommend the International Series Australian Pale Ale (very versatile & the basis of MANY recipes that suit most palates), the English Bitter is also well regarded. In the fermentables I strongly recommend either the Light Dried Malt or the BE3 (which is the BEST VALUE if you can find it at your local, it's 1kg and 50% malt, 25% dextrose, 25% maltodextrin).

Essentially this deal brings the Coopers International and Original Series down FAR BELOW their lowest recorded pricing (for non short dated cans)….and even the new Thomas Coopers line is essentially at it's lowest pricing (assuming $6-8 value for the LDME or BE3). Hope this helps a few OzBers,

Cheers, Nick

  • despite brewing AG, almost makes me want to do one for the price ;)

    • You should! Kit n Kilo can make for a simple quick beer in a pinch. They can be tarted up quite well with whatever left overs you may have from an all grain batch. Thats how I discovered my simple bogan porter recipe (as I call it)… Not really a traditional porter though but I'm not fussed after a few bottles.

      • -1

is your recipe 2x coopers stout cans and a kilo of brown sugar?

    • the malt you could use for starters

      • That's what makes the deal good. It's only 500g but for a 14 litre or so batch it's not bad.

  • +1

FWIW I could only get the 500g LDME's at my local DM's - yet when I gave them a value of $5 each (as the cheapest LDME I can get is around $10/kg and Coopers is likely marginally superior) it means I'm getting the APA can for $10.

Suffice to say the purchase was made using WW 5% off Wish gift cards and also via Cash Rewards….so I think it ended up costing me ~$8.80 per can (I grabbed 4 as thats all the LDME my local had).

As stated, add some cracked grain and hops and you've got a very respectable result with very little effort - upgrade via a 3rd party yeast to suit the brew you're doing (as the APA comes with the generic Coopers Ale+Lager yeast mix - which is an odd product IMHO) and you're really looking at a very nice result.

  • Not bad!
Will have to try it. I'm such a cheapo that not only do I have to save money by making my own beer, I also save more money by making cheap beer! Usually pick up a Morgan's tin from woollies for ~$10 and some dextrose and malt mix for $4.

    Thanks OP!

    • Life's to short for bad beer ;)

It doesn't cost that much more to make better beer (lose that dex, add dme, use better yeast, partial it with some steeped grains, head down the slippery slope to all-grain ;) )

      • I find I'm actually able to make a lighter crisper beer with the cheaper stuff, which is my preference. I know the more grainy malty ales are popular right now but I love my Dex beer, incredibly drinkable. And it seems the temperature it brews at remains the absolute biggest decider of final taste.

Having said that, dead right I'm sure buying the best starter and enhancer kit would only add about 20 cents per bottle!
