    Manufacturer refurbished on title please.

    • +2

Thanks for reminding me. you changed it quicker than me :) lols

    • +6

Just a note that Apple don't sell refurbished iPhones, so these are probably just second hand.

      Edit: Still cheap though

      • +2

        Phone is fine.

      • +2

Technically they do… But the catch is you have to come in with an already dead phone of the same kind. It's like a 'swap n go'. No matter what condition the phone is in, they'll sell you a refurb for $$$.

  • +7

    32GB $240

  • +3

    8gb isn't enough for a fly.

  • +2

Good for kids. Good price too. But you don't know what you gonna get. Could be overseas model or repaired with non genuine parts. Not worth the risk I reckon.

    • Claimed to be manufacturer refurbished.

    • +8

Actually pretty rubbish for kids IMO

Kids download every single game from the app store and then wonder why they can't download anymore. 8GB is no where near enough

      • +2

        It goes up to 32GB

      • +7

That's when you teach kids how to clean up after themselves…

      • kids are time rich…… game centre keeps their score even after they delete a game and teaches them to free up space …… guess it depends on how old your kids are.

      • +2

They'll fill it even if you buy them a $1000 phone.

Why delay the inevitable- only the games they really like, even if they listen to Pandora, Spotify or Apple Music they'll fill it.

Best to give them something they can't screw up. iPhone is a pretty good effort at that, assuming you configure it well and keep the important stuff backed up so they can re-sync after each reset.

But I'm tougher than most. Personally I don't understand how kids can be exposed to the Internet without supervision and there is no way my kids would get an Internet enabled device to use unsupervised. They need to use their time wisely learning, it won't last long enough to spend so much of it surfing and downing pr0n.

        • My daughter's first phone had 64gb (HTC M7) and then I got her a samsung S5 16gb and it filled up too quickly but at least we could transfer some of it to SD card.

  • +11

For kids? Good for adults too!

  • InB4 inevitable shitstorm over 8gb anything… Cheap for a refurb iPhone though…

  • +1

    nice cheap phone

  • +4

not a bad buy for the grandparents. My parents (both late 60s) have iphones now, dad likes browsing his email and has skype to video call the grandkids. Mum loves candy crush haha. For what they need, 8gb is fine

    • +4

If kids also have iPad or iPhone then it's easier to do FaceTime instead of Skype.

  • +15

Negative feedback in last 6 months indicate at least four people were shipped faulty 5c's.

This seller is no doubt selling poorly refurbed iphones, so buyer beware.

    • -3

Its eBay mate, people can say whatever they want. I contact the seller to change the color and they are easy to talk, even very quick reply to me.

      • +32

Mate, I trust the reviews more than you.

        • +27

To be fair 15 negative from 4321 in the last 6 months on ebay is a pretty reliable source. That's 1 in 300, and only of the people who chose to leave feedback. Definitely not a guarantee of a reliable source, but better than most. 99.6 overall for the lifetime of the account is pretty good.

        • +3

What he is saying is a review too you know?

    • +3

interesting banter … did some calcs and buyers have an approx 99.68% chance of buying an Apple 5c 8GB that works. Would I personally buy it? … Hell no :)

    • +4

I bought a 5C from this seller a year ago.

The battery life was terrible (4 hours on a full charge), so the handset was replaced by the seller. The second handset was just as bad. I received a refund without too much trouble. YMMV.

I didn't leave negative feedback as the seller was okay to return and refund.

    • +2

most of those are 6 months to a year old and the percentage of good reviews is still massively overwhelming compared to bad, so it looks like you might get a stinker but chances are better than average you will get a decent phone

        • Is there a reason you believe PayPal buyer protection won't apply to the very low chance of getting a DOA unit?

        • +6

You realise you can just the very same and dispute the sale via PayPal and return through eBay, right?

You sound like a complete technophobe who's only happy when they're buying something directly face to face, even if the guy your face to face with is ripping you off (ie. HN) … are you sure you should be browsing eBay?

        • Even 0.001% chance of getting a faulty phone is more than enough to stop me buying from them

That would mean you would never, ever buy a phone from anyone… ever.

    • +1

Definitely had experience buying a refurb 5c iphone online coz it was "cheap", and got burned twice by the same retailer. First they sent me a phone that would 'touch' itself (randomly open apps), then they had the nerve to ask me to document the phone doing that and post on YouTube before they could process my return?!? Then the second time they resent me another phone where the front screen was partially lifted from the backing, so from the side you can literally look inside the phone core - motherboard and all. It sure didn't look like a new phone, I can tell u that. And when I tried to contact the retailer, they somehow forgot that I'm a customer and never responded to my 'tickets'??

The only saving grace from this whole ordeal was paying with Paypal. I explained the whole situation to them and they were really sympathetic to my situation and based on the fact that I've been with them for 10 years, they paid me the amount to repair the phone (which was about half the cost of the phone) and that was it. Got it repaired and off I went.

Not the same people (mine was from Becextech) but could be from the same factory…who knows!

But based on that experience…never again, thank you very much.

  • -1

Good price now… but these things sure depreciate badly.

    • +8

Apple products depreciate less than basically anything out there, what are you talking about?

      • -3

This 8gb model was launched over 2 years ago at $679. Thus it's lost 80% of its value in that time.

I don't see how you can consider that a good rate of depreciation.

        • +1

This is refurbished though. New if any, would still sell $350+

        • Over two years ago is a long time in this industry (it exceeds most contracts) and this is a refurbished model. This is basically three years old at this point, not two. They can still be had for more, but this was the cheapest model to begin with. iPhones hold their value very well considering new ones ship every year.

        • @CozmerkIsenberg:

          That's what depreciation is.

It's the loss of value of an existing item, not a new one. Hence, you've agreed with my comment.

        • @Smigit:

It's not 3 years old as it didn't even exist three years ago. However, it was the current and latest model if you were buying one two years ago, so that's the appropriate time.

80% of value lost in two years is not "holding value well."

        • @odysseus: It came out in September 2013, given it's mid Aug now, I think three years is accurate enough to describe the release date. The phone even then was a cheaper version of the September 2012 iPhone 5, using largely the same components, but in a cheaper to manufacture poly carbonate shell. I'd pick an iPhone 5 over a 5c. As such this model was on older tech the day it shipped. It may have been current and latest, but it was certainly never a flagship release. The 5s shipped at the same time and I suspect it's still selling for a few hundred dollars.

        • +1

          @Smigit:

Smigit, the first 5c models came out then. However, the 8gb model discussed here only came out in March 2014, hence over 2 years old.

Agree with the rest of your points about how it sits in the ecosystem, but my original comment was just referring to how much this specific model has kept its value - since that is what this post is about. It wasn't anything broader than that, although some seem to have taken it that way.

    • Which android phone depreciates slower then apple phone?

      • Percentage wise or absolute?

        • +3

My android phone will never lose more than $170 in value, even if I lose it. My last iPhone lost more when I opened the box.

        • @mskeggs: Let me guess, was it $170 brand new?

  • +5

"Hope it help some parents like me :)"

It has! Thank you! Bought one for my 25 year old "kid" who keeps losing his expensive phones, LOL!!!

Made sure it was bright green too just so it has even less of a chance of going missing ;)

    • +8

Bought one for my 25 year old "kid" who keeps losing his expensive phones

Damn, lucky 'kid'! Can you adopt me pls? I'll take out your bins once a week and ill chuck in doin the dishes too.

      • Lol! He paid!! I had enough years of covering for him when he'd lose everything! I just discovered it here and did the purchasing for him. We will see how long this one lasts……

  • +17

WARNING: I had a disgraceful experience with this company, bought a "refurbished" 16gb 5c from them 3 weeks ago for my dad. Recieved it inserted SIM card and got no signal. Tried a few more and same thing (I believe it originally may have had water damadge), sent it back they told me it is fixed and they have tested it. When I got it back it had the same issue with multiple SIM cards. They didn't belive me So I made a video of the phone of the phone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiENTpe938o
I sent it back and got a refund. My dad was without a phone for 2 weeks. NOT HAPPY WITH THEM

    • +2

you have that problem if the screen has been replaced badly, antenna clip is integrated into the glass/lcd case. Very common problem with iPhone 4/s when idiots replace the screens themselves with no clue.

    • -4

I think the service was good…. they took it back and tested and sent back to you. Again the fault was there so you sent it back and got a refund….. i have read horror stories of people dropping a few hundred for a mobile and never to hear the seller when the handset got sent back.

      • +1

How did they test it if the fault never went away? That's disgusting service for wasting his time. Don't forget to tick the rep box if you're associated with the store.

        • -3

Not a rep and if they did or didnt lok at it the op got his money back…. cant live without the phone for 2 weeks…. 1st world crisis look out.

        • +2

@Hotkolbas: That's not the point; stop being deliberately provocative.

      • +2

That is terrible service, should not have sent a faulty phone out in the first place, poor quality control and testing.

Then to send it out again after inadequate or no testing shows how razor thin the margins are and that the quality control does not exist.

So they refunded, it makes it sound like it's a good thing. That just shows they want to avoid a negative review and are not crooks haha.

        • -2

Q and C comes from the manufacturer not the retail shop. I see a lot of horror stories from people owning a dud handset and loosing lots of money

        • @Hotkolbas:
          I agree for new phones.

If these are refurbished units, then the retailer is responsible.

        • @Hotkolbas: Yeah, the phone worked when new, but not after the so-called "refurbishment".

    • +1

Your dad could only have been without a phone for 2 weeks provided he had no phone to begin with though?
Otherwise, your dad was just without his new phone for 2 weeks - doesn't sound quite as dramatic that way though..

And potentially running into an issue with recently refurbed phones is part of the reason the prices are so low..

      • He dropped his 5 in the toilet so that day bought him a refurb

        • Before or after going?
          Ewwww. Haha

        • Dropped in the pisser, just like most kids will when they get drunk…

  • +3

The most important question is can this phone play pokemon go and in AR mode??

    • -1

My kids, even me, we love it :)

    • It is the reason I bought this phone for my daughter. Not from here, but a different seller for $5 more last week.

  • Also supports iOS 10

    • Wouldn't recommend it though. Or at least hold off and see the reports.

  • +1

What's it like for pokemon go?

    • Shouldn't have any issues

  • +1

    $309 from Kogan https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/apple-iphone-5c-refurbished-8gb…

So decent deal as can buy two for price of one

  • now…which colour do i get?

    • +1

Doesn't matter. Buy a protector case.

      • +1

        Which one?

  • 8gb is enough theyre gonna play simple game which are couple hundred mb, like Pokemon go, u think they're gonna be doing hardcore games like 10gb?

  • Can anyone shed any light - is this 'grannie' friendly? We are looking at gettin gran a smart phone as she is stuck with a garbage 8 year old $20 nokia POS that with the old push 3 times per letter button system which is torture. Ive been stewing over what to do with ideas like - go to cashies and demo a few phones with her but shes 80 years old (strong as an bull though) but I dont want to put her through that kind of ordeal.

Tl;DR - Is this senior friendly? Anyone have any experience giving iphones to their grandparents/older people?
    Thanks

    • +1

In my experience iPhones are very user friendly and less technical in their operation than an android. Having said that I gave my parents androids (and had to provide the tech support) because the cheaper iPhones like this just didn't have a large enough screen and I was too cheap to buy the larger iPhones but in the end I was able to change them over to iPhones and they find it a lot easier YMMV but iOS itself is very easy for them to use and understand. What I would say is my mother in particular loved taking photos of the grandkids and sending photos of them and I think an 8gb phone would fill up very quickly

      • Ok cheers, Ill talk it through with my family.

        • I went the route of buying my parents and grandparent a blackberry. They love being able to type on a keyboard and are not fussed about the lack of apps. You can get high quality blackberries for a relatively cheap price!

    • +2

Iphones are targeted at older people as user friendly.

      • Sweet. THanks people.

    • +1

My dad has an iPhone, 79 years, has started sending text.

Predictive text or the suggested words above the keyboard help a lot. Auto correct as well.

Born overseas, so English spelling is not native. But does a very good job.

      • +1

Sweet. My baba is mackodonski (macodonian) so this info helps. Thanks mate.

    • Should be. Look at the assistance features that can be used to magnify text and the like which might help if eyesight is a concern.

  • +5

Personally I looked at these a while ago and decided not to touch them when I realised they'd all had screens replaced as part of the refurb.
Any Iphone going for $145 with a new screen has got to have a crappy screen.

I even posted a thread on ozbargain to ask if people would buy an iPhone that had had a 3rd party screen replacement. No was the answer because of the endless issues now or somewhere down the line.

Normally I'm a cheapie but I've been bitten several times before by dodgy iPhone screen jobs in second hand phones. Thankfully sellers all took them back…..

    • I probably wouldn't for myself but for a kid or even a grandparent I might risk it

    • +1

Thanks Hoju I was considering one of these phones based on cheap price until you mentioned the 3rd party screen replacement.
Then there is the issue with the battery could be well used and not hold charge very well.
If as part of the refurbish the screen and the battery get replaced with genuine apple parts, then I would jump at it.

  • +1

5C and the standard 6S are the best iPhone as far as reception goes i have had, and i have had them all. Both bluetick on telstra.

  • Just keep in mind battery life for a refurbished iphone may be an issue. I bought a 5s a few month ago from ebay as "NEW", the battery life really sucks. Later on I found the battery cycling time was more than 600. So I returned it and bought a new iphone SE.

  • So how much was shipping when you guys had to shipped it back to this seller?

    • Free return shipping with PayPal. Never had a problem getting my $10.40 back ($7.45 postage, $2.95 tracking)

      • How did you claim thus?

        • Easily googled. It's under paypal refunded returns or something. Register for it now for future use.
You package the goods to return back, send with tracking. Make sure you take a photo of the addressed package with postage on it before sending.
Submit a copy of the receipt and package to the paypal program.
          Refund appears within the week.

        • You do it through PayPal but do exactly what they tell you.

        • @Springfield:
And you need to claim it within a fairly short time frame, two weeks I think.

        • @mskeggs: But if you tried to work it out w the seller in the meantime and get nowhere, they'll give you an extension

  • Thanks! perfect deal for me as I always wanted to just tinker with and have always shyed away due to the pricing.
