I have no idea how a company like this gets away with ripping off another company like Sodastream. Anyway, how much does a sodastream exchange cost?

    • Sodastream canisters are usually $19.95 in most retail outlets.

      • $20 is the exchange price. I think they are $40-60 to buy standalone.

      • +1

        $19 exchange at Kmart

    • How are they ripping them off? Thats like saying Pepsi is ripping off Coke because they sell their cola cheaper????

      • Let's establish a benchmark here. Are there any circumstances you would consider that a company has copied another company's idea completely?

        • Of course

        • [@hoxygt](/comment/3922217/rediredi please evidence one

    • They need competition though. Sodastream has such a forgettable syrup line— especially the diet drinks. They mix everything with Sucralose because they think it's way better than Aspertame, but Sucralose takes freaking weird in my opinion. As crappy as those ingredients are, they don't even come close to the Diet Coke or Coke Zero taste because of this.

Then again, Stevia (what Sodaking is apparently using in theirs) tastes worse than both Aspertame and Sucralose, so nevermind.

  • How does the offer work? How do you purchase or exchange with the code? And do you take in Sodastream canisters for exchange?

    • Bring your empty canisters into your nearest participating SodaKING newsagent and quote the promotional code and the price will be reduced from $18.95 per exchange to $13.95. (click the exchange canisters link to find your closest location). And yes we do accept SodaStream canisters for exchange.

I don't imagine Sodastream will accept yours though, so this smells a bit of lock-in.

        • The Sodastream canisters are compatible with SodaKING as well so there is no reason why they should not accept them. That said it will probably be up to the individual retailer as to whether they accept only SodaKING or both.

          @Nparcel:
Till they don't accept a n exchange sodaking brand cylinder and your stuck using this brand….and there's only one outlet close to me.

        • @mattiig: my local gas joint refills 60l for 10 bucks rofl.

        • @Slippery Fish: it's actually like 440ml

You can also DIY with a spanner, crushed dry ice and a funnel for about $3

        • @Lukian: Where do you buy dry ice in small quantities? I could only find a seller with 5kg minimum purchase.

        • @Lukian: I did not know this… Where does one get dry ice from :)

        • @fluffyduff:

We accept any gas canister, so I guess us?

        • @GiveMeYourTearsGypsy:

Given that the fitting is the same and the contents of the bottle is the same on what basis would you think a machine would be damaged? Do you make sure to use the same brand of gas with your bbq? Of course not, the bottles are standardised as are the contents you can use any gas bottle with your bbq. The same thing is true in this case as well.

  • Where are these bottles made/filled?

    • +1

The canisters are made in China and refilled locally.

      • didn't i see these in BIGW and what size are they S/Stream are 400g/60litre

        • They are 60L, will update the post to reflect this. Thanks!

      • Good. I've been thinking about looking for an alternative supplier of gas. I'll pick some up tomorrow.

  • Regular price is $18.95 while Sodastream is $19 - am I missing something?

More places to exchange? Why would I get SodaKing and not SodaStream?

    • -1

Most retailers that stock SodaStream are destination stores, whereas our locations are far more conveniently located and there are 1000+ of them.

      • It might or it might not be more convenient depending on where you live.

      • +2

I have not purchased anything in a 'Newsagent' for as long as I can remember, however I have been to many shops/shopping centers that stock SodaStream products, even in the last week … but I guess that is your point and why you are selling cheaper.

      • My local 'destination' store is closer than any newsagent (all newsagents around me have long closed down).

        • Just out of curiosity what suburb are you located in? There are around 3500 newsagents Australia wide so it would be odd if you didn't have one near you.

  • +2

I would totally support this if this was the standard price and the bottles exchanged were genuine Sodastream ones. How long has this been around?

  • +1

Hey rep, any deal on buying one outright so I can keep my sodastream one for like exchange.

    • Unfortunately it's just exchange at the moment. We are looking into stocking more products including canisters for purchase.

  • +2

If this was the regular price, it would be worth it… But to be potentially locked out of the proper brand refills, and locked into the third party ones at practically the same cost for a one off $5 saving? No thanks.

    • +1

My thoughts exactly. People buy generic brands to save cash - they don't buy generic brands for the same price as the original brand!

  • Just to note, there have been undeclared comments in this deal and other SodaKING deals from Sodastream employees (competitor of SodaKING) where they made statements about how the canisters broke their machines among other allegations. This is against our terms and all of these comments have been removed as well the accounts and store banned.

We will be monitoring these deals closely.
