They're quite different headphones…it's not like graphics cards or something, where a higher number means a clear upgrade (better in all respects). So I wouldn't be too disappointed in getting the dt770 (unless that wasn't the right headphone in the first place).

Geez, I bought the 250ohm version for about $400 about six years ago. These would require a headphone amplifier. One's ears can get hot after a while, especially in warmer weather. I'd also suggest wearing a cap or something so the top band doesn't get stinky :-)
These are excellent headphones. I've had a pair for almost forever, and liked them so much that I got their big brother (T90) and big big brother (T1).
Pair with a tube amp and they are the hottest thing this side of Scarlett Johansson.
I'd rather Scarlett wrapped around my ears.
Holy crap I just bought a second hand 250 ohm version of these a month ago for about $190 all up. They are normally $400+ so this is a steal!
edit: the price drop might have something to do with beyerdynamic getting set to release a new line after have the 770,880,990 line for a LOONG time. Called the 1990 Pro, probably gonna have others like 1880 pro etc

I have the 250ohm ones and love them for my edit suite. Remember they're semi open - which work well in my environment…
Just buy it. Compared to the T1s these are about 90% of the sound. Only reason I sold mine was because these were less comfortable than the T1
With the new line supposedly Beyerdynamics are introducing, do you guys think this is still worth purchasing?
Also, as for the amp, do you guys have any recommendations that would best compliment these?

Not a recommendation here, but the msrp for the 1880 pros (new line) is $599 so its not cheap.
I use mine mostly with a bottlehead crack or a woo audio 3.
But solid state amps work fine too. I've got a geekout for my laptop and it drives them no problems, same with a fiio x5.
Can't go past a Schiit Vali for something cheap as chips.

I bought the 32 ohm BT 770 phones recently. Their recommendation on their website for use with 120Gb Classic ipod is the 8 ohm model, I mainly listen at night. They 'seem' to distort when I turn the volume up to about half way on the ipod. The files are .wav imported through Itunes, ipod has volume standardization setting on "off". Any comments appreciated. 250ohm is fine without an amp. cant comment on 600ohm

990 is better than 880 right? Is Premium better than Pro?
Different. 990 has more bass and treble, some say too much. 880 is more balanced.
