(Confirmed) Virgin Mobile Galaxy Note 7 + 256 GB MicroSD for $88pm Unlimited Calls/Text 7GB Data

300

Notice (3/9/16): The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone has been recalled due to concerns with batteries exploding or catching fire.

This deal is confirmed, this is the cheapest Galaxy Note 7 preorder available. There are cheaper plan, but virgin probably has the best deal for your need.

Telstra and Optus still hasn't reveal the pricing, Vodafone plans starting from $89 with 4GB data (the $74 plan has indecent data).

They also sell outright price, at $1176, cheaper than $1349 rrp.

Given the free SD Card, the effective price of the phone is $900, which is very good

  • How do you already have the inside scoop? Good deal if so :)

    • Had a chat with the sales guy, at the start they said we don't know, just wait and see, but after I said that I'm about to join Vodafone (whom has published their pricing), they bulged and said that it will be about $70 + $18 plan. They said can't say for sure until tomorrow.

The 7GB I look it up in their website…

  • +2

why isnt it posted when it is an active, confirmed deal?

  • +2

Great, Aussies get a stupid memory card and us gets the gear fit 2.

    • Yeah shame huh… Who needs 256GB when music/video streaming are easily available anyway?

      • But the 256GB is worth more at US$249.99.
So for those who don't want/need a 256GB MicroSD card, they can sell it off and recoup some of the money back.

Serious question here champ, what happened to note 6? Or did Samsung lose count?
    Lock in B Eddie

    • decided to bring it up with the S series numbers

    • Because samsung has the galaxy s7 and s7 edge, releasing a note 6 may make customers feel as thought it is an outdated model.

Personally i think they just want the numbers to match apple's so customers wouldnt think the samsung model was older tech.

      • Rumour has it that they will release all 3 together too next year.
Which means this device may be outdated in just 7 months.

But rumour also said they will make Note a foldable phone next year.

    • +1

it's 7 if you count the Note Edge

  • +1

    Out right is for $1349

    • Assuming average user for 7GB is $30-$35, this phone costs is $53-58 * 24 months = $1272-$1392.

  • -1

Still stuck with my Note 3. Cant seem to justify an upgrade to Note 7 :-P

    • +4

Note 7 is in a completely different league to ancient Note 3 with SD800 processor. It is also the first to come with iris scanner.

      • does Note 7 have USB 3.0?

        • +5

It has USB-C, better, faster, reversible.

          U C?

        • Currently unknown at this stage. Def usb C but depending on the country's Samsung website it is saying usb3 and usb2

      • +1

Yeah, it's a different beast, but S7 edge, same spec, minus stylus and iris, it's much cheaper now.
Australian stock may be about 1000, grey import perhaps 800.

Considering the outright cost of Note7 1349 with free microSD, the price is roughly $1100.

So is $300 worth the stylus, extra 0.2 inch screen, the iris scanner?

        • +1

It depends, it's a new product which means it's naturally more expensive than a product which has been out for a while now.

I'm sure there is no point in upgrading if you have S7 Edge, or Note 5, but Note 7 has distinctive characteristic which sets itself apart and make potential buyers to choose it, or consider an early upgrade.

Note 7 over S7 Edge: 0.2" extra screen, s-pen, iris scanner, usb-c, expandable battery pack + others

Note 7 over Note 5: increase battery capacity, double edge screen, upgraded s-pen etc etc

        • +1

          @fidelio: expandable battery?

        • @fm: http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-note7/accessorie… check out Backpack - it's 3100mah expandable battery pack

        • @fidelio: Oh ic, this kind of thing has been out for a while, but maybe a first for wireless charging.

Look very sleek, I'll get one if I need one.

        • +1
        • @fidelio:

that's just a case with a battery built in. a shame that they didn't make the battery removable on the note 7 even though it has a microsd slot.

      • +2

It is also the first to come with iris scanner

Which doesn't work with glasses according to one review I read… hence the fingerprint scanner as well ?

I may wait and see how they go in terms of an upgrade to Android N but I have a tendency to stay with a phone for a while eg I have Nexus 5 so I probably sñoudl just stay with Nexus devices I guess. Plus phones are getting way more expensive than I am prepared to pay, considering I am lucky to make a call a week. If Windows had a wider array of apps in their store, I'd just go with W10 for mobiles and use Continuum and be done with computers I think.

        • Rumour has it this Android N is shipped together with S8.
Another rumour also said that Note8 comes out together with S8, which makes this phone outdated in 7 months.

          Rumour….

Iris scanner works with glasses, but not as well as without.
I think its use will be limited to the time when you have gloves (but then how do you touch the screen?) or when your hands are wet/sweaty.

      • +1

Ah. My Note 3 comes with 2 spare batteries I can easily swap over. :-P

        • Yes please carry your batteries around - Note 7 can be had with expandable battery cover

        • Yeah my spare battery I bought was sh!t, it never worked.
I use a Cygnett battery pack, works like a dream.

      • Thats creepy as feck

    • You can. When there's a will there's a way :)

    • -1

Still stuck with my Note 3

Are you talking about your wife?

    • No way! I am on my Note 3 and the Note 7 has ticked all the boxes for me to upgrade.

      • +1

Good for you Mate. I guess it's pretty hard to let go of the flexibility that the spare — interchangeable — batteries give me (i know there's a batt pack option for Note 7 — but bulky IMO).

Besides, Note 3 still works perfectly (inspite of all the drops it experienced lol)

No doubt Note 7 is a wonderful piece of hardware, I must say. :)

    • Lol, I'm still on my Note 2.

Been thinking of either Note 7 or Axon 7. Can't seem to choose between them.

  • +2

I must say I'm a little disappointed with the Note 7.
Some developer will port out Note 7 ROM, I'll just flash it to my Note 3.
Had high hope Note 7 would be the one to entice me to get a new phone. I'm now looking at a new battery for my Note 3. :-)

    • +1

After playing with wife's s7, there's no way I can keep my note 4, feels prehistoric in comparison

  • Gorilla Glass 5.0… Is there a big difference between 5 n 4? Also does it have fast charging 2.0 or 3.0 ? Since it's Exynos n not Snapdragon.

  • +1

All I found was these 2 links. Nothing from Optus yet…

    Voda

    Telstra

  • I have never been on a plan before is it cheaper if i go on a plan? also would they make a deal for me if Im new?

    • All about Cash flow imo. generally you can find the phone cheaper than RRP so if you bolt on a BYO plan, you tend to come out cheaper.

If you cant take the $1k+ hit, its best to do it on a phone plan.

      • -1

I like to upgrade a lot would Telstra be best and new phone feeling or does that cost more? im so new to this stuff. lol

        • New phone feeling makes you end up more out of pocket compare to outright.

+1 about cashflow, outright usually is cheaper than plan. However this particular deal from Virgin may be better because outright preorder is 1349 (huge amount). You can wait until the price went down, but then you don't get the microSD.

        • +1

Go and do the maths and see if you have the $$ to cover it - that's how the rest of us do it. Work out how much it would cost in total on a plan and how much with prepaid and outright…. not hard

        • @ippy: yeah new phone feeling cost more and you give the phone back wtf. So this Virgin plan is very good? hope its true also you dont have to give the phone back do you? lol

        • @shadowrukia: I think it's good for 2 months or so.

Also virgin allows you to early upgrade Ur contract, no fees, within three months from due date

      • You do know you can pay over 12 months for the phone only instead of paying upfront right.

  • +1

If anyone getting it outright, get it with Coles Mastercard (2 yrs price protection)

    • Wow, two years? That's ozbargain dream!

In two years the value would drop by half!

Are you sure there is no terms about it stuff?

      • As long as the balance is $0 before the statement generates, nothing to pay.

        https://financialservices.coles.com.au/credit-cards/about-ou…

        • There is a catch, if you read the t n c, the price limit is $600.

So unless Ur gadget is $600, its not applicable.

        • @fm: I think it works well for games

        • +2

@fm: says cover upto $600. Means the difference is covered upto $600 not the price of the item bought

        • @Aemit: none in that forum claimed they have done it.

Its up to you dude, good luck.

All I'm saying is insurance company is not stupid, they actually very shrewd.

Its common sense that gadget drops their price, why would they give us such a free lunch?

          I maybe wrong…

        • @fm: coz in 2 yrs the same item may not be available at the same store or ppl forget to claim waiting to maximise the return

        • @fm: yea I've done it multiple times. I just buy close to release from Kogan and make a claim when the price drops.

Both times I bought the phone for about 1k

        • @fm:

I just got off the phone with the insurance company to confirm the T&C. As I am planning to buy on coles MC and claim the difference in two years.

          1. No cap on the price of the item. $600 cap on total claim on one item.
          2. Can only claim if the value has reduced in the same brand of store you originally purchased from. Have to be same merchant if purchased from e-bay or amazon.
          3. If the price of the item is over $200, you will have to submit a catalogue (screenshot) as proof of the price reduction.
          4. the premium is 1% of the used credit capped at $50. So make sure the card is fully paid.

It is fairly simple and hopefully they will keep their end of promise.

        • @sanatorium: Sounds very good. Great for games too, I wonder what's the catch.
There has to be a catch, no free lunch.

The company might change abn or name in two years or something.

  • The deal is now active.

  • Interestingly for Galaxy 7 Edge, Virgin is charging $7 for handset on $70 plan and $10 for handset on $80 plan. Although for $90, as a bonus, we get 1 GB Bonus data and unlimited standard international calls from Oz to UK, USA, NZ, China, India, Canada & Singapore for the life of the plan.

  • +2

I went on a plan for my Note 4 and ended up regretting it.

The biggest problem with plans is they lock you into that pricing structure. If in 6-12 months they bring out new plans that are much better value, you can't use those plans unless you recontract.

Thats why I'm buying outright this time, I prefer to jump around to different companies as pricing and data gets better over time.

    • Sorry can you please elaborate on that?

I'm about to jump into the $77 contract with 3GB. My logic is my current prepaid plan is $30, so the phone is $47*24=$1128. Given that it comes with free microSD, it seems good deal.

The s7 edge price drops $450 after 3 months from RRP $1249. If note7 is $1349, and it drops $500 to $850, the $1128-$250 sd card is about right.

      • +2

        Simple

        05/08/2016 - Buy Virgin $77 plan with 3GB

        07/11/2016 - Virgin upgrades plan to 6GB for $77

You don't get the new deal, you have to keep $77 with 3GB for 2 years.

Now you don't know when new plans come out, but it happened to me on Telstra…

        • My $30 virgin plan is still 300MB though.

But when I sign up they have 2GB bonus, now not anymore.

So for me it's actually a worse plan today.

        • @fm:

I guess it also depends.. most people would compare it to all companies.

Like Telstra was a decent deal for me at the time, but now you can pay $34.95 for 8GB of data and unlimited calls for example with a different company.

        • @samfisher5986: Yeah but it's not apples to apples though.

Small companies, they purchased a bulk plan from the big 3 provider, and resell it.
Sometimes if they don't buy it enough, it turns out you can't make calls because there is no credit.

It's rare to happen now, but smaller companies also comes with catches like cap etc.

Virgin is not smaller companies, they negotiate a huge contract with Optus, they can be considered the big 4

        • @fm:

          This shouldn't happen anymore.

Optus 4G resellers should be identical to Optus 4G

Thats why I'm happy to go with a smaller company.

  • Will Australia have Blue Coral colour?
Virgin and Vodafone doesn't have blue coral colour option

    • +1

I talked to Samsung Australia on twitter and they said no Blue one for Australia at all. I would suggest everyone message them on twitter and complain about it maybe making a hashtag #NoBlueNote7forAus or something similar to make it trend.

      • +2

        CORRRRAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL

    • Yeah I really want the blue one actually :(

  • +3

Don't recommend going for 24 months plan anymore. is a real struggle to see other great plans along the way……..

    • -1

Except for iPhones which hold their value better over time.

      • +1

That makes no sense, they hold their value outright as well.

        • Should've clarified that I was talking about resale value over time when you decide to go on a 24 month plan and not plan value. Its a better value proposition to buy an iPhone that you can sell after 24 months for more $ compared to this deal where the resale value takes a bigger hit.

      • Samfisher5986 makes a good point about the plan. It's not about phone value, it's about the plan value.

So today $70 plan gives 7GB, but 12-24 months from now, maybe it gives unlimited international and roaming and 20GB.
        Who knows?

        • i had that feeling too. I see a lot of 15GB for $50 or $60++ on vodafone/optus (main providers), but yet mine was $100 with 6GB LOL>………..

  • Wondering if any1 has purchased a voucher from blatchys blues? 7% off jbhifi's outright price is a saving worth mentioning for those not looking for a plan.

  • HI, I checked virginmobile website, can't find anything about outright price mentioned in this pagw which is $1176, anyone?

    • Unfortunately they have taken that option out.

They also have the plan with Gear Fit 2 bundle which I think it's quite faily priced.

      • I cant find bundle either, did they remove it as well?

    • Sorry, i can't see it either

  • Is the outright price of $1176 still available?

  • +1

Cheaper than Optus who has it for $96 a month with 7GB Data + no MicroSD on offer.

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/samsung/galaxy-no…

    • Micro SD offer is available . Please go down to the page
      Believe this is Samsung offer

    • Yes 256gb micro sd included, until 18th August.

Well I think I might bite the bullet and get a contract, as I want the premier league subscription also.

  • Currently paying $40 for my BYO amaysim unlimited 7gb plan.

If i upgrade to this with optus i pay $1056 for the phone and free EPL, but im stuck in a contract for 24 months… @$88 per month (gst inc???)

    or

pay $1100ish for the phone outright (as mentioned somewhere above earlier)
sign up for the 8gb $40 per month BYO plan and have a 12 month contract with the epl thrown in. (optus)

Wont need the SD card so can sell that to recoup some of the outlay if have to buy the phone outright.

Any ozbargainers offer a suggestion for me to get this phone with about 7gb, get the epl and get the best deal?

  • How would you buy this outright?
