Woohoo! Time to head down to the store on my lunch break.

Showing heaps of stock for different sizes/colours too in many different stores.

  • +1

    Thanks mate.

  • +1

Excellent, was waiting for the price to drop again.

  • +1

Paid $129 and wearing mine now. Good jacket, worth every dollar.

    • +7

…still, a tiny part of you resents that you paid $30 more. C'mon, admit it! :)

      • +2

Maybe back in the days of being a true ozbargainer as a poor uni student! Not going to lose sleep over $30 and it's still better than paying full price ;)
Bought my wife one for $99 as well lol

  • +9

I purchased from the previous deal, very nice jackets,

Just a note that I was charged an international fee from my CC even though I paid in AUD because they are based in NZ

If I had known I would have paid with my 28 degrees

    • was this in store or online?

      • +2

        online

    • i had a similar experience with another NZ vendor.
When i spoke to them, they credited the transaction fee.

They said it's an issue of CC as it tries to fetch in NZD

    • I emailed Macpac after being charged a AUD$2.99 fee and they refunded it.

would this be good for cold london type weather?

    • +26

Yes these are ideal for Melbourne.

    • +2

I had one in the UK and yes they were great for protecting from the cold.

      • thanks m8s

      • How cold was it when you were wearing it? Would you reckon it's suitable for UK / Scandinavia winter (with thermal underlayers), or am I better off getting something with thicker insulation?

        • I checked them out in the store today, and they aren't all that thick. Depends on the price jump to a more insulated option I guess, but I already have a similar sort of jacket that feels a lot warmer and I seem to be in between sizes, so I opted not to buy this one. Very comfy though!

  • +3

    How waterproof are these?

  • Made from Gortex?

    • Definitely not.

    • +12

You like saying gortex, don't you?

      • Let's be real, who doesn't?

  • +1

Bought one for the wife and I in the last sale. Excellent jacket. Extremely warm and comfortable. Few feathers come out, but I think that's normal for a duck down.

Impressed by your frugality. I thought I was prudent, but sharing one jacket between my wife and I is something I haven't thought of!

      • +5

cuddling together for body warmth under a 3XL is definitely cost effective heating! :P

        • This guy gets it :)

        • +4

          Not married long then!

Can anyone comment on the size do they run big or small? I'm usually a Large on most jackets.

    • +2

I am asian, medium build, 167cm tall and I had to get Extra small "XS" size.

In the Sydney store, I saw they had up to 3XL haha….

There was only 1 xs in black, 1 xs in grey left in the Sydney store. I bought the last grey xs one.

      • +1

        +1

I'm similar height + build and normally would wear medium. Measured my chest and according to their chart I'm medium.

Medium arrived today, it's more like a typical large size (bit looser than I would expect of a warm layer which you want to be quite snug).

    • +1

Yeah like above, I bought 2xl using their size guide and had to size it down to a Large because they were huge. I'm 6'4 and normally an XL.

    • +1

Fairly loose. You might be a med

    • +1

I just went down and bought one, I'm 6'2" 34 waist slim build. I bought a small, which still has a bit of room around the tummy could do a thin jumper underneath. I like the length of the medium but it was too baggy for me.

The arms are long on the small so fits pretty well.

      • +1

Amazing, 6"2 and 34 waist and you fit in a small! Thanks for sharing, would've definitely ordered too big.

        • +1

Im 6.0" 32 waist and xs was perfect fit

        • +1

@sinishta: I'm a mix of you two, 6" but 34 waist :( Might head to the store tomorrow as it's close to work. Cheers guys.

    • i'm 6' 3" and 100kg and I grabbed a medium (tried it on in store), and it's not tight at all

    • What about female sizing. Do they also run large? Eg I'm normally a 10 should I get 10 or 8?

  • Thanks good deal, just purchased!

    • Hrrrm, is the order supposed to show up right away in your 'My Orders' menu in your account?

  • +3

Seems like a good deal, however i'm just wondering whether it's worth buying one given it is now the end of winter. Then again, living in tassie winter only really ends for a few weeks a year…. anyone have experience with these jackets?

    • Can't comment on this particular jacket (but people who have it are giving positive comments), but I got my first down jacket this winter (Arcteryx) and it's one of my favorite purchases. It's a perfect mid layer. With a down jacket and a rain shell you are pretty set for any weather and it's easy to layer up/down as well.

      • That's always good to hear, I think it being actual down instead of synthetic stuff is probably a plus too. I think I might go suss the macpac store out (and probably purchase one) on my lunch break, as you would no doubt get a good few years, at the very least, out of one of these jackets.

    • My wife and I bought one each for an 8 day hike a couple of years ago and they held up surprisingly well given how poorly we treated them in the rain while setting up camp, getting stuffed away in the bottom of packs while still damp, worn around the campsites each night in reasonably dense scrub. They still get heaps of use and whenever I wash them they come up almost brand new.

For sizing, I'm about 6'2 and hover around 100kg with very broad shoulders and I usually wear XL stuff but in hindsight I would have preferred to get an L instead. My wife is about 5'10 and 65kg and she has a M and could have gotten a S.

    • They come with a stuff sack and pack down pretty small, you should have no trouble storing it for those few weeks and having it ready for next winter!

I have the uber light version (currently $89) and just leave it in my commuting bag permanently.

  • Thanks OP. Can anyone find an item worth $0.01 or close to make the order eligible for free shipping?

    • its $99.99 so I would rekon its FREE

      • Didn't realise it was free shipping over $100?

        • Pretty poor to add on $10 cos it 1c or 2c under the threshold. I would call them, they'll probably do something if it was a deal killer to making a sale surely they would to the free postage but then again they could be one of those business that don't care about customers so G-luck.

Alternatively they should offer instore pick up or just go to the shop and they should honour the sale price

        • @Gavman: I did call them hoping for the same only to be told to buy something perhaps from the accessories store to make the total above $100. I guess its a strategy to get people to buy something they dont need.

They don't offer pay-online and pick-up in-store either so I am planning on just dropping by at one of the stores and trying my luck. The stock availability tool looks good though (shows time of checking etc.)

    • Merino 150 Scarf Black OS - $25

    • If you have access to their store, go to a store, make full payment and ask staff to order one for you. They will honor the price even if it's picked up from the store after the sale.

Can we just buy 2 and return one to get free shipping?

  • +19

A few weeks ago it was on sale for $129.99. Someone pointed out that it'll be $99.99 again before winters end and to hold out.

    would that be… yourself? :)

    • +18

All I know is whoever said it was obviously very wise ;)

      • +4

        It is known.

  • This would be handy for those times I'm in the Dan Murphy's fridge.
However because I live in Brisbane I don't think it's worth buying this at any price….

    • lol, we can wear thongs, t-shirts, shorts in brisbane in the middle of winter here. It was 29 degrees C on Saturday..

      • +1

Get the kids darling, we're moving!

  • +2

Can we buy this in store for this price?

    • And I'm normally size M. Should I choose S?

      • Depends what u normally wear. Its a Jacket so chances are u will have clothes underneath so it would be better to get a bigger size.

      • +1

Yeah they are in store for that price too.

    • Yes (oop - as Charleston said ^)

  • How long will the sale go for?

    • +2

      31 Jul - 4 days left

  • +1

with this price, better to get one with a hood IMHO

  • +1

I'm tempted - it's been cold in Townsville this year. ;)

  • +2

Is this good for the snow too? Heading up to the mountain this weekend

    • +1

You cannot use this for skiing or boarding as it is not waterproof. It is only for keeping warm.

    • +3

You would need a waterproof outerlayer.
Down jackets are generally not waterproof and lose their heat retention once the down gets wet.

You can get insulated jackets that are waterproof, but they are more expensive.

  • How would these hold up in proper winter conditions like -1 degree daily average?

    • +1

They should hold up well - consider adding a midlayer vest too.

I've been in -2degC with a fleece/windbreak midlayer vest and synthetic fill insulated jacket and was toasty warm - the down jacket will be even warmer than what I had. I did have a thermal layer too under my shirt.

  • When checking out, why does it says GST is zero?

  • +2

Thanks OP. Such a great deal. And not as nerdy looking as the ones from Kathmandu. Should repel water but isn't waterproof. pretty good for $99!!

  • bought it for $80 at DFO Moorabbin! it was around 2 months ago though

  • +1

Great jacket, I wear mine every second day, it's light and warm and looks great :) I got mine from A DFO and its excellent value for money at this price.

  • +1

    No hood, no buy.

    • There's a hooded version for $150 I believe I saw

  • Argh want to buy instore now, hoping these won't be ozbargained out by end of work day

  • Is it better to buy this here or to buy something in Europe when I go over in their winter?

    Cheers

    • +2

They are very lightweight and, someone correct me if I am wrong - come with pouches to roll up the jacket into something the size of a big soup can. The cheap Ray's Outdoors one (Outdoor Expedition - which is fantastic, wearing mine today in warm Melbourne) came with a pouch sewn into a pocket. It's super convenient to travel with it. I think Mac Pac has pouches separate, but there shouldn't be a reason it couldn't be sewn in like the Ray's Outdoors one.

I'd suggest to buy here as they could be very travel friendly (and cheap). I'm making my way down to a shop soon and can let you know about those pouches for sure if I get one.

      • +1

        Thank you for your help!

        • No worries, it does comes with a separate storage pouch also.

Would this be any good for a European winter?

Thank you for any help :)

    • +4

      Europe is a big place…

      • Fair enough, I'm spending 10 months in Europe from September going:

        2 months UK (Oct/Nov)
        2 months Western/Eastern Europe travelling around (Nov/Dec)
        6 months Sweden (Stockholm Jan-Jun 2017)

Sorry for not being more specific, you are completely correct :)

    • +5

Canary Islands? Probably a bit too thick.

Northern Russia? Probably a bit too thin.

    • Just bought mine from the Melbourne CBD store, too. I probably bumped into a dozen OzBargainers. Staff were run off their feet.
