So, for 90% of the population, 3Gb of data each month.

    • Doubt it's 90%, I use most of my data out and about as do my colleagues/drinks mates on the weekend!

      • Bah humbug! Young people, out enjoying themselves…

    • +1

      Social Enterprise (& Optus reseller) JeeNee ( .net.au ?)
just had an Offer of 8 GB for $35 (unlim. AU-calls/text)
      and some Int'l calls.

Don't need the Int'l Calls, as we have an annual Skype
"World Subscription" - now w/ unlim calls to ~63 lands.

Dunno how much it costs to open a New one today (and it's
d*mn hard to find any pricing for it); I see renewals of
      $149 / year.

Any1 know the current 12-month price for a new World
      subscription, thanks?

      • JeeNee's $35 for 8 GB data beats

        • Telstra's 6 GB ( = 3 if by Day, 3 if by Night ;-) combo, IMO.

These day-splitter deals make it too easy to use more data, & pay penalty rates later for your "crime" :-/

Telstra has always been the one to find a way to PENALISE you for using some feature of their service offering.

Of course, elsewhere in the World… UNLIMITED DATA is an affordable option… :-)

        • Prepaid (as this deal is) makes it much safer, as you are always in control of how much you top up, and don't get a nasty unexpected bill.

      • +1

        Skype World Subscription is:
        AUD
        $18/month is paying monthly
        $51.30 billed every 3 months (5% saving)
$183.60 if paying annually (15% saving)

        • If renewing, from an earlier Offer,it can be Less.
Eg, I just saw an Annual Unlimited (to over 60 countries) Renewal charged at Under Au$ 150

How do you choose freedom 40 with a $30 starter pack ? And the international calling is valid till 22nd August only?

    • -3

Mate, put extra $10 credit into the new $30 pack and choose $40 freedom Plus plan. Unfortunately international calling wouldn't last a month :(

      • +3

Mate, put extra $10 credit into the new $30 pack and choose $40 freedom Plus plan

I don't think that works. You choose the plan when you activate, and if you choose F+ you will get the conditions associated with $30 F+. Adding $10 credit on top of that won't give you the benefits of the $40 plan.

        • +1

Try Telstra Chat……suppose to be best among all networks

        • +2

I can confirm I have done this twice. Load the $30 starter pack, get your account screen ready. Call the help centre and tell them what you want to do (play dumb), you can load the extra $10 while on the phone to them (2 clicks, 20 seconds) and they can get you onto the $40 plan.

YMMV, but like I say, done it twice.

In general though, why the just don't let you top up and select yourself is beyond me, having to select at activation seems unnecessary.

      • That won't work. The recharge itself needs to be $40. Description should be updated.

        • I thought you could pick the plan you want each time you give 'em more money, eg, through a voucher or recharge…?

        • @IVI:

There's no way to choose the $40 plan through the website with a $30 starter pack. Apparently you can do it if you get the right person on the phone (judging by the comment above).

        • @dazweeja:
Typical telco… somebody has to maybe put their job on the line (eg, for "giving away the store") to give Great Customers Service. Go figure! :-)

        • @dazweeja: no, I mean via the app… Telstra 24x7 or similar

  • +3

With all their recent outages, I'm not sure if being on the Telstra network is as good a thing as it used to be…

    • +5

Still the best coverage, and fastest speeds over the most locations, when it works.

  • +12

Op Telstra is better because you can use the credit for Google Play. I top up $30 and use the money to buy Netflix, and when my trial of YouTube Red expires I will get the family one to enjoy also google music.

    • +2

This^ You can also use the credit for Pokemon Go

    • -5

Thanks Fozzie, yes I forgot about the useful $ 350 credit to be used at Google Play Store:)

      • +5

useful $ 350 credit to be used at Google Play Store

Unfortunately you can't use the applied call credit to purchase things from the Play Store.

      • +1

Thanks Fozzie, yes I forgot about the useful $ 350 $40 credit to be used at Google Play Store:)

Fixed it — you can still use the recharge credit (ie the face value of the recharge) in the Play store.

    • +2

How did you get Netflix billing working through Google Play? I tried to change off paypal onto play credit but the app kept redirecting me to the netflix website where there was no option

      • +2

I had to give it several goes before it worked. Once you are subscribed though it's automatic. I just kept trying and also thought of changing the email. I persisted and it worked in the end, using the 4g

        • +1

There are only credit cards and Paypal billing options in my Netflix app. Where did you find Telstra billing option?

        • +1

          @Joe888:
Hi first of all your subscription needs to be expired. If you still have it active it won't work. I waited the day it expired. Then I tried with 4g on until telstra billing appeared. If you still have days in the account i dont think it will work. The only other alternative is to change email.

        • @fozzie:
Thanks, Fozzie, my subscription is still current paid by Optus voucher codes. I'll wait till it expires.

    • +1

I've got a question about how this works. Say I'm on the $30 prepaid option and I spend $15 on the Play store, does my call credit and data allowance get halved or are they unaffected?

      • +3

Unaffected. The $30 credit is yours to spend as you choose.

        • +3

Wow, I should have switched over ages ago. Thanks for that.

        • +7

          @peco:

That's why pre-paid telstra is a really good deal. You basically get to spend your money twice (or get the call plan for free) depending on which way you look at it.

Whirlpool has a good wiki as to how to spend it:
          https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/telstraprepaid#tppm_drawdown

Can you use the credits to purchase Viber Out. Would really like some credits for Viber

        • +1

          @nightelves:

According to the link above - yes.

Basically anything you use google play to pay for should usually be eligible.

        • +1

          @nightelves:
Yes i have done in the past

    • +2

I got onto this plan (moved from Boost) so my $40 could be used in Google Play store, but haven't yet been able to use it to pay for Netfliz. I even rang Netflix and they said that some people can, some can't - eventually everyone will be able to, but they can't say when!

      • +2

I've probably tried at least 40 times. Clearing app data, reinstalling the app, different phones…

        I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!

        • If you change email address it works.

    • We use the Canadian app "Calm Radio" (free) to pick & choose music from lotsa different categories. Bollywood & India & sometimes Celtic are favs.

    • Do you know where can I find more info about this? Also, do they do the same for Apple App Store?

      • Also, do they do the same for Apple App Store?

Nope. It's all explained in the Whirlpool link.

    • If only CreditMe2U worked on my Telstra NBN account I'd be in it like a shot.

not really had any issues with telstra. not been on optus for 2 years now but the speed difference was stark.

i find the night time data quite handy being a shift worker.

quite often telstra does a promo then makes it permanent so hopefully they'll keep the unlimited calls.

i like using my recharge credit to buy roaming data packs when i'm on holidays. saves me buying a sim card to each country i travel too. like getting double value for my money.

  • If they continue the unlimited calling to 10 countries I will switch from Vodafone but will wait for some time.

    • Ozbargainers response to this deal will determine if Telstra continues with this deal :)

    • +1

I am on the same boat. I've been using Voda and thinking to move to Telstra. It's overseas package has been the deal breaker to me. Don't have to be unlimited. 300 mins packaged in a post pay deal will do, but they just don't.

  • +2

Saw '6g data' and got excited for a sec but meh

    • +1

      6G? As in 3G, 4G, 5G……….6G?

      • +2

Nah as in freaking Oracle 10g.

      • Some of Xiaomi's RedMe products use 5G (after 2.4G) to indicate WiFi is Dual-Band, like Apple cellular products tend to be.

  • Can the $350 transfer out using Credit me to you?

    • +1

      No.

  • thanks op for this deal, i got few questions fellas.

is it unlimited call to 10 included countries indefinitely until i keep recharging my plan ?

which one you think is a better deal, this one or boost prepaid $40 which gives free calls to same 10 countries, but doesn't have $350 bonus credit.

what can the bonus credit be used for other than international calls ?

need to decide soon as my plan is expiring in 2 days.

    • +1

From the website, the international calling deal can be activated before 22 Aug. Which means presently, deal is till 28 days from 22 Aug. Telstra prepaid has extra $30 credit to be used at Google Store…..music, movies, apps and even Netflix

    • +2

This one!if you have an android phone credit can be used for any inapp purchase. My favourites: Netflix, youtube red (plus google music), newspapers or magazine (i've tried some Italian ones). To be tried: fitbit star.
You can also get viber, line or vyke credit to call abroad.
Also you can use for vpn if needed. And dont forget apps,i bought the tripview app and others

  • +3

for a manual (including first) recharge, the plan is for 28 days. But if you then auto-recharge, the $40 or whatever lasts until the same date the following month - this means if you auto-recharge, there are only 12 billing months in a year, not 13 if you work out how many 28 day periods there are in a year (365 / 28 = approx 13)

    • +2

How do I setup auto recharge? Although I'm kind of scared to trust them with recharging on time correctly as I already have $200 credit built up that can be used on Google Play!

      • Manual recharge with a credit card and save it. Log in to Telstra My Account online. Choose a date and value to recharge every month. Usually goes through in the early hours of the morning so you have time to check if it was successful.

    • If you're on auto-recharge, do you get the free 2GB data they throw in every now & then for every recharge?

  • -3

It's a better deal, however it's on "Telstra network".

    • -2

      Sorry, I meant "Sorry Network".

      • After reading this, my head is spinning

  • Meh, amaysim offer better deals for international calls. C'mon Telstra you can do better.

    • +2

      Telstra Network+extras >Optus Network+extras>Amaysim Network

      • FYI Amaysim = Optus network

        • +2

          Yes, minus 'freebies' only

  • It's actually 3GB Anytime Data and 3GB Night Data.

  • Telstra is great everywhere EXCEPT my bedroom. sigh~ the only spot that I get almost ZERO reception

    • I've heard ZERO satisfaction as well!

      :)

      • +1

        That's what she said!

      • +1

        snap!

well, I cannot get booty calls if there is no reception.

  • good deals

  • I'm on an old Vodafone plan and am looking to change. What happens at the end of the month? Does the same offer continue for future top-ups?

    • Most of the time they do or become better. Worst case scenario just switch

  • Hi guys what's the cheapest voip withgoogle pay?so far I found Line, they charge $1.28 for 100 minutes to most landlines. If you found something cheaper let me know please.
