Dell XPS 13 Laptop Silver 6th Gen i7-6560U 256GB SSD $1679.20 + Free Shipping @ Dell eBay

I found this deal on ebay today. The i7 infinity display dell xps' are usually ~$2200.

This is a decent deal because its similar specs as Razer blade stealth spec'd with a 256 GB SSD but ends up cheaper. Currently a Razer blade stealth QHD with 256GB SSD is $1,849.95 (with a bonus pair of in-ear headphones). Dell certainly price their xps laptops at a more premium price point. (whether you view them as such is another matter)

Specs:

  • Dell XPS 13 Laptop Silver 6th Gen i7-6560U 256GB SSD 8GB RAM 3.2 GHz Win10
  • 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6560U
  • 13.3 inch FHD AG (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge
  • 8GB LPDDR3 1866MHz

I recently spent ~$1500 on a razer blade stealth 128GB and upgraded to 512GB samsung 950 pro ssd myself.

  • Since you mentioned Razer Blade Stealth there was a Toshiba Ultrabook sold here for $1050 with exact same specs as the Stealth 4k edition
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/240362

Had to send it back since the touchpads have a 70-100% failure rate virtually out of the box
Also it was falsely advertised as having a 100% SRGB Pre Calibrated Screen

  • Not relating to the deal, but doesn't the razer stealth run on PCI-e ssd and you swapped it with a slower ssd? Same for this laptop, it runs on PCI-e.

    • I replaced the hdd with a M2 pcie samsung 850 pro 512GB. I cloned from the original 128GB, sorry if i worded that badly.

      https://www.pccasegear.com/products/33633/samsung-950-pro-51…

      • Samsung 950 is different from 850 :)

Glad to see you can actually do that! I was thinking of getting the 256gb for bigger space since I am unsure if I can open the laptop to swap parts. Have you done a crystal disk mark test to see the speed you're getting?

        • Oh crap lol, I even typed 850 , AFTER looking up the model on PC Case gear … /facepalm yes, its the 950 pro not 850 O.O

        • Nope not done a test, Im using my MBP at moment but will go grab it and give a go. I actually have linux mint 18 on there for dual boot but will get windows up to do that test.

In terms of opening. You need a torx screwdriver but i already had a set. The actual ssd stick was straight forward to swap. I just cloned the existing 128GB drive to an old external USB 3 HDD > created a boot drive from a USB thumb drive > swapped the SSDH > restored onto 512GB from the external HDD. Windows and linux both booted with no issues.

The only thing i'd say is that linux was a little tricky with the Killer brand wifi/bluetooth card.

Edit: here is the crystal benchmark result

        • @wired00:

cheers. Just want to make sure I am getting the full speed of the 950 if ever. I think I read somewhere that seq read of RBS for example is 890 more or less similar to the macbook 12. The 950 is capable of 2500.

        • @L3ica:

Yeah check the image link above, I think its definitely not pushing the drive to its limit

  • Wired00, where did you buy the Razer Blade Stealth laptop for $1500? I thought if you buy it from their website, you'll be charged an extra 10% GST?

    • I got a letter in the mail but i won't be paying it :) In fact… it doesn't even state who to pay, or how. So I actually don't even know how i'd go about doing that… From what I read on whirlpool, people have just been avoiding it

      • Lol ok, I'll head over to whirlpool to see what people are doing. Cheers :)

  • I wonder if this would work with an external GPU like here?

    • Of course, just need a razor core

Or any other third party eGPU housing that has thunderbolt 3 connectivity really. We might be seeing quite a few of them in the near future, though Razer were the ones to show it off first, so credits to them for that.

I still think the dual core, relatively weak processor will be the main bottleneck for gaming.

  • Shame it only comes with Windows 10 Home, really need the Pro edition to join domains :(

  • After a long wait,i ended up ordering this laptop from Dell's eBay store, instead of getting the Razer Blade Stealth with similar specs (minus the screen). Both being evenly priced for me- after a 5℅ student discount from Razer.

The main reason I got this over the Razer, even though the RBS was a better deal for me (free $100 headphone + $150 Razer core credit) was the warranty policy from the two companies. An on-site repair from Dell as opposed to a RMA, and possibly sending it overseas for repairs. It also seems more cheaper and an easier process to extend the warranty on my Dell laptop.

Dell seems to have a better phone and online chat customer support in comparison to Razer- where the only way I can seem to be able to contact their sales team is via email.

I spoke to a Razer representative at the recent Synnex Alliance (distributor for Razer).

      You are 100% correct.

They will NOT sell the Razer via the channel to stop these on-line web stores eroding the margins, but the bad news is indeed, the unit would be shipped back to SINGAPORE on warranty returns. Razer would pay for that but still you're looking at weeks of cross over freight time.

They're thinking about making Synnex a warranty agent but Synnex wants to distribute Razer locally also (which I think would be very reasonable truth be told) but nothing has come out of talks yet.

Just want to point out that this model is rocking the Intel Iris Graphics 540 instead of the usual Intel HD Graphics 520, it is a much better on board graphics.

  • What do you mean usual? The iGPU is part of the CPU, you cannot get this CPU and have any other internal graphics.

But yes, Iris Pro is comparable to a low end discrete card for performance.

    • inbuilt graphics mate, its the newer model.

      520 > 540

      • 520 < 540???
The old Iris HD5100/6100 were always better than their HD4400/5500 variants.
They used to only be found in UX301LA/MBPr 28w processors as the 5000/6000 HD igpu (MBA) weren't too special
EDIT: omg that '520 > 540' is an arrow woops

    • Yes I know, but people often overlook that fact since many laptop deals posted here often have the i5. Especially since it wasn't mentioned in the opening post, some people who are unaware might not have taken it into consideration.

      • Me being one such person who didn't know so thanks for pointing out the difference.
