Wii Console (Refurbished) + Wii Sports (Preowned) - $28 @ EB Games

3530

OK, this is one for those families who may have missed out on the Wii phase, may have not bothered, may now have kids old enough to play that weren't able to before. Whatever the reason, this is basically chump change for a fun console that can be easily soft-modded to play from USB to get more life out of it! Buy a 2nd remote and have fun :)

What's included?

Nintendo Wii Console (Refurbished, colour of console may vary)
Nintendo Wii Remote
Nintendo Wii Nunchuck
AV Cable
Sensor Bar

Out of stock at Forest Hill in vic, got a cancellation email within 5 minutes.
Getting it shipped to me for free though :)

  • Got one thanks! This is going to be the new official OxBargain console lol

  • Thanks OP…no idea why I got one, suppose it will be fun with my 2 and 5 year old kids…:)

For those of you near Midland, apparently they have heaps of stock in the Midland Gate store..

  • Thanks Op!

Does anyone know where to get extra controllers? Also, for games like Mario Kart, is it better to get the old gamecube style controllers?

    • they sell preowned controllers for $15 too

  • +1

I could have ordered from a few options which people are telling me they got their orders cancelled. I guess I picked a good store. Just picked mine up! :D

  • +1

Received the pickup-ready confirmation about 5 minutes after ordering, Dianella Plaza store (WA)
If they sell out, they really dont cost much more at cash converters.

  • +1

Went to pick my one up today and the console was all scratched and had dents in them lol still works fine

  • Just picked mine up! They didn't have any pre-owned controllers where I was, just 3rd party ones for $29 or something.. and $50 for 3rd party controller + nun chuck pack.

    • If it's not genuine nintendo you might as well go for an ebay cheapie. I've got a few and they seem to work OK.

      • Yeah I was standing in the store quickly checking the prices on ebay too. I guess I'll get one off there then. Thanks for the advice!

  • +1

EB rep was nice and friendly to let me pick up the colour i like and check the condition before handl it to me. Went with black colour and official control.

  • +2

Just went in randomly to Market Sq Geelong and the good bloke was happy to give me a white Wii on the spot. They had 4 (now 3) in stock!

  • Check here for some cheap-ish aftermarket remotes :)

    • Nothing beats the 2 cent Wii remote plus from an old kmart deal

    • Thanks for the photos.

That's pretty terrible condition. I wonder what the previous owners do with their consoles ?
I just leave mine next to the TV… can't understand why it's so scratched up.

      • I'm guessing you dont have kids…lol

        • 2 little ones actually…. but i wouldn't let them touch the xbox or wii…

  • +1

    Thanks OP! Picked one up.

  • anybody else can't get the letterbomb to show?

i'm on 4.3E and i've tried with a few different SD cards and checked +/-5 a few days on the calendar

    • Hmm, they've always been a few days in the past for me. I'll probably mod the one I just picked up later tonight, I'll let you know how I get on.

Perhaps ensure the date/time on the wii is correct and generate another file just to ensure the MAC address and region you entered were correct: https://please.hackmii.com/

Or use wilbrand (ive always used 8.0 but 9.0 should be fine) too: https://gbatemp.net/threads/wilbrand-launcher.328943/

I remember reading that the initial hack/IOS installs are best done with a non SDHC card (just an SD card 2GB or under) also. Pretty sure I've modded a system with a 4/8GB SDHC also though.

      • thanks, should the SD be readable? when I go to the SD card menu it says 'device inserted in the SD card slot cannot be used'

        • Do you mean Options | data management | save data | wii | sd card (tab)?

I just checked on my old modded wii and yes that loads fine. The SD card just needs to be formatted FAT32 (not NTFS or other), nothing special.

        • @CountDuckula: yeah, all the cards i've used are SDHC, formatted as FAT32 but they all give the SD card page warning

maybe that's why i'm not getting the letter bomb?

        • @impoze:

I'd say the root cause is the same, yeah.

You could try using the sd formatting tool that both flashcart makers and nintendo themselves recommend: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ but I've always just done a basic quick format to fat32 in windows.
The SD card doesn't have anything unusual like multiple partitions does it (if used in a raspberry pi or something)?

        • @CountDuckula:

no, standard card and regular format using disk utility in mac.

          I'll try use the formatter

        • @impoze: still no luck :(

i'll try find some more older SD cards to try

        • @impoze:

i tried to use an old transcend 8gb (micro) SDHC card formatted to FAT32 and it wouldn't work. The Wii couldnt' read it.

By luck I had an ancient 1gb Nokia branded microSD and that worked.

        • @edrift: cool, i'm looking through everything I have to see if I have any older smaller SD cards, hopefully I can get at least one to work

        • @impoze:

          Check old phones, cameras, etc

        • @impoze:

No problems modding mine. Copied the 'private' folder that wilbrand created to the root of the SD card, powered up the console and the letterbomb appeared -1 day.
If it's giving an error when browsing into the SD save data section on several SD cards, I'd say the SD reader on the wii has failed in some way, try the same card in another wii if possible.

        • @CountDuckula: I had a feeling this was the case after trying all those cards. I've got another SD card from my friend and if this doesn't work i'll bring it back or try to get another one

        • +1

Called up the store and reserved the last one for exchange

hopefully the next one is all good

          Thanks for all the help

        • @CountDuckula: WHAT SD CARD DO I NEED? I need help im a noob at soft moding

        • @shadowrukia:

Ideally a non SDHC card (an SD card 2GB or less) is recomended, although I'm sure I have modded consoles using 4GB SDHC cards also.

        • @shadowrukia:

find the oldest and crappiest SD card that you can…and it'll likely work.

The newer SDHC ones have issues.

        • @edrift: im having trouble finding one…

        • +1

@shadowrukia: just an update, I got a replacement from the EB store and was able to letterbomb it in 2 minutes

          currently backing up my NAND.

Thanks everyone for the help & OP

  • -5

    just bought 3 consoles

    • +1

Just for the controllers? Or is it because you're Santa?

      • With the number of 7s in his username I'm surprised he didn't buy 5

        • i would of but there are none left :D

  • I don't think Ebgames bothered to clean them. I know it's only $28 but someone could of used it in the bathroom for all i know.

    • Mine had chewing gum on the power cable lol, but the console and controllers are in excellent condition.

    • +1

yeah mine was pretty grotty… had to get out the disinfectant wipes and glen20… all good now.

bit of false advertising on their behalf…

      • Yep, the guy in-store went on about how thoroughly they clean and test them. Fan grill on the bottom of the unit (if its standing up) was caked in dust.

  • Got one from Gracemere EB games store ;)

  • Tried calling another store tonight as I didn't want to wait for mine to be delivered from the HQ, found that Miranda (NSW) has them in stock but had run out of Wii Sports. Substituted for Wii Play instead.
Just finished installing the Homebrew Channel…. now where can i get games for this thing?

    • The place that currently is offline because the owner has been arrested… :/

      • +2

There is also another place (that rhymes with 'The pilot pay') that you can check as well. ;)

      • lol gg KAT! was wondering why it's been down all day -_-

    • +1

i got a wii sports with mine and i called miranda to reserve one yesterday.

  • Did you guys get a strap with the remote? Mine is missing

    • +3

The strap is basically a sweatband, you don't want a secondhand strap.

    • Nope.

  • For those buying a second controller, is it worth paying extra for the motion plus feature?

    • certain newer games leverage it apparently - e.g. Wii Sports Resort

  • i bought a crappy 2 gig micro SD with SD adapter on ebay for about $3 to softmod.. that'll work hey?

    • +2

if you can mount in windows and format as fat32, you should be good to go. I used an old 1GB card.

    • Could you link me where you bought it?

      • just standard cheap chinese garbage on ebay comrade

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231318624151?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

        • +1

Cheers mate, I ended up buying this one because I couldn't bother waiting a month to mod my Wii and was just a tad bit more expensive.

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tomato-Flash-Vodafone-1GB-Power-S…

          This one should work right?

        • @OzBMate629: good find, i got one too :D

        • @Iggemo: Thanks, I'm just wondering, after you get the homebrew channel on and everything is setup how do you get the 'backup' games?

        • +1

@OzBMate629: i assume goto torrentz.eu and just search for gamecube or nes or snes and you'll find the top torrents have hundreds of ROMS .. i guess people just download them that way with the appropriate emulator

of course, you would only download games you physically own copies of yourself already, naturally ;)

        • @Iggemo: Yeah, what about Wii games though? I honestly don't wanna spend over $30 for a wii game which is quite old and gets repetitive after awhile.

        • +2

          @OzBMate629:

          Same instructions, search wii

Go to the Bay of Pirates…

        • +2

@Iggemo: @Spackbace: You guys are awesome. Thanks :)

        • @AussieDaddy: No love 4 me? :(

        • @OzBMate629: Love for everyone, brah. Uncle AussieDaddy loves everybody. It's just that he wasn't wearing his OzB glasses and missed your quote out. :)

        • +1

@AussieDaddy: Lol haha ok bro all g.

  • Ended up getting 2, but only need 1. Picked up one from forest hill store and other is getting delivered.

    • +1

      yeah same deal here.

Apparently they couldn't cancel my order in time so now need to wait for it to arrive then go return it in store.

potentially could just keep it given it's going to cost me $20 to buy another controller/nunchuck anyway…

  • Anyone having buyers remorse in melbourne? I just gifted one to a nephew and have a very sad little cousin to make happy. Also if anyone can help - I've successfully got snes9gx working as well as nintendont (but it's not picking up my controller) do I just need to add the controller config to the root?
Also how do I run "back up copies" of my wii games from sd/usb - does that need a emulator or is it just the roms?

    Thanks everyone!

  • What SD card should I get for softmod? Im new to this anyone link me please

    • You don't have 1 already? All you need is a small, slow card lol nothing fancy

  • +1

Just picked one up in Midland WA.
Ridiculous price, going to run all my legally purchased games from a usb stick. Should be good fun.

  • +1

Grabbed one last night from EB Games Mt Gravatt. Work like a charm. Super-happy… :-)

  • Anyone know a reliable place to get gamecube controllers for these? Was lucky enough to snag one that has the gamecube ports..

    • It seems I have a console with the gamecube ports as well… What is the benefit as opposed to the standard consoles?

      • The main benefits are that it can use gamecube or wii controllers without any extra adapter. Tt can also load Gamecube discs (which does not really matter if you plan on installing some HomeBrew) which the newer model wii's cannot

  • Btw guys check the controllers that come with the console, some are wii remote plus and some are just the regular ones. Ended up buying 2 with the remote plus cause it's cheaper than just buying the remote!

    • yeah mine came with the old regular remote, ended up getting a remote plus pre-owned aswell for $15

  • Picked mine up today, was handed the box that had my name on it already. Received the a white first generation Nintendo Wii (still has the Gamecube port). Would have preferred a black one. Had a peek into their store room, and it was filled with orders for Wii, with more coming in as I waited.

    • How was the condition and did you get the motion plus remote or the original?

      • The condition on the Wii itself was good. The controller on the other hand, was pretty dirty (look like someone split something on it). The controller is original, without motion plus.

EDIT: the controller wasn't a big issue for me, since I manage to grab a few third party remote from Dick Smith during their game clearance years ago. Just been sitting in my cupboard.
