Was wondering if people have had their phones for a while now. I currently have an Xperia Z1 that has lasted 2.5 years and is still going strong for my needs.
How Old Is Your Phone?
Comments
3 weeks, xiaomi redmit note 3 pro prime
I carry 2 phones, main is an iPhone 6plus, the 6S Plus wasnt a big enough upgrade to make me upgrade (the 7 is sounding much the same) so its almost 2 years now and looking liek it might be here at 3 years too
My second phone I carry is always an android and I do replace it regularly to try new phones, but usually end up going back to my LG G2 its been a great workhorse and very durable, so other than the few months a year I try new handsets before on selling them, the G2 itself is currently at the 3 year mark
One for the wife and one for the gf?
What's the old saying? Only drug dealers and cheaters have two phones and I don't deal drugs….
Lol no one is for work and I like android and iOS hey both have their advantages (and faults) so this way I don't have to choose
same as gf and wife :p
Galaxy s6 edge 6 months old
bought brand new from jbhifi
I'm very fussy with phones ill sell the thing if something pisses me off, my last mobile was a Galaxy Note 3 gps didnt work properly
I like the s6 though.
I wont be buying the edge version again though but ive gotten used to it everything else just works great. The s7 has everything i want but im just not willing to spend the extra money.
The Edge is stupid. All it does is turn white areas blue and distort the edges of things. You need proper software integration to do something like that, not just slap the same old Android on it. I hate my edge.
I wouldn't go far as to say i hate it as i do find the edge app draw thing good as i have calulator and a few other apps i use all the time there.
but if i could of i would of bought the standard s6 overt the edge.
should be the same price as the standard s6 thought it's not worth anything to me.I completely agree. A lot of people deny it but it seems like they just want to defend their purchase. It's the reason why I sold my s6 edge a few days after getting it. I want to get a s7 edge since everyone says it's 'the' phone to get but I don't think they've fixed it.
Are you using the s6 or the s7 edge?
S6. It's not my main phone, in fact I'm planning on putting it up on Gumtree. Other than the stupid curvy edges it's alright. Definitely a great screen other that.
iPhone 6 one year but its already bent and the battery sometimes dies when its still on 20%
Very similar thing happened with my wife's HTC M7. Would go from around 20% battery to dead in an instant. Recently replaced it and my 10 year old son now has it mostly to play games.
Xiaomi redmi 2, 6 months old - I'm a notorious phone dropper/smasher so I'll be lucky if this lasts to the end of the year.
Samsung galaxy s3, hand me down from my brother, suits my needs.
Another Xperia owner here. Xperia Z (the original), 2.5 years now (bought Jan 2014 for cheap)
Still have mine. After a little over 2 years, it works well. Don't think I'll ever want to replace it.
4 months old, but the one before that I had since mid 2011.
I got a new phone because the screen got smashed on the previous one.iPhone 5, 64Gb. bought it out right for about $1000 in 2012….. continued my $19/month (2.5Gb, $400 calls) virgin month by month until now.
after almost 4 years it is still working well. The maths shows that I've been on a ~~$40/month "plan". I think I have a good deal.
mine is donkey years… lumia 520 :)
hi everyone! new here
June 2012 - October 2015: Samsung Galaxy S3 (Originally $49/month with Optus)
October 2015 - March 2016: Samsung Galaxy S (The original. That was a painful time period, I lost my S3)
March 2016 - Present: Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro ($370. I overpaid with insurance, now you can get it for around $240)From April 2014 onwards I've been with the $18/month vaya plan. Over the last 26 months since going off plan, I've spent $838, averaging $32/month (with the cost of a new phone which I'm hoping will last at least 3 years)
Currently using Galaxy S6 (slightly less than 10 months old, it was second hand, but I think it was almost a new phone). I might decide to sell it depending on how Note 7 comes out and whether Note tablet comes out. Not because S6 is bad, but because I am thinking of going all in with Wacom stylus.
Before that I had a Galaxy S4 Active (which I used for around 1~2 months?). It was because my brother no longer needed it or could use it (in terms of how old it is, he bought it around the same time I bought Lumia 925).
Before that I had a Lumia 925, I think I used it for 10 ish months, probably longer.Previously had a Nexus 5 from 31/10/13 bought it from Play store $468.95 at launch.
Google replaced it 2 days after the warranty expired with another Nexus 5 which i have now.
I smashed it whilst overseas in Jan this year and hasnt been the same since. Waiting for the new Nexus line this year before i upgrade but see how i go..Asus Padfone 2 : 13 months than dead on the morning.
Nexus 5 : 10 months and dead on the morning as well, 2 replacements came with problems, ended up refund @ 18th months (Google warranty the best!)
Lumia 532 : 6 months, temporary and wait for new mobile cames with new chips. Surprisingly good @ $40, but poor screen and poor camera. If it was Lumia 640, I could still using it lol.
Moto X Style : Current - 3 months. Could not resist the bargain @ $330. Good phone and I love it.
(please don't judge) —> Nokia 2220 slide - I have no idea but well over five years.
That's awesome!
OMG you mean you aren't walking around like a zombie alternately staring at a screen and taking pictures of yourself because you want to outdo your social media "friends" in how awesome your life looks?
Just over 2mths - Xiaomi Mi Redmi note 2 - I HATE IT.
First one died after 2 days of light use. The screen went.
After much back and forth it was finally replaced. This new one doesn't always ring, it goes straight to message bank about 80% of the time. No idea why, I've changed every bloody setting, googled for answers and tried all their suggestions, tried multiple sim cards, reset the phone etc.
So am getting ready to 'accidentally' drop it out the car next time I'm going down the highway and choose my own phone this time (hubby insisted I would LOVE this one and dragged me half way across HK to buy it).
Xperia Z Ultra, no idea how old … think it came out in 2014? But I didn't buy it immediately after it came out. Our phones are essentially the same as far as performance (RAM, CPU and GPU).
Waiting for Xperia Z5 Premium to get to a good price ATM so it's on the way out. Had a small screen crack for "no reason" (a Z Ultra specialty) and the microSD port door is loose.
Nexus 5x. 6 months old. Got it for $450 at JB.
Samsung galaxy s5 few weeks old purchased from jb for cheap.
Prior to the s5 was a note 2 from telease date….. had all the bells and whistles on it from roms to larger zerolemon battery, i am thjnking of getting the zerolemon for the s5.Huawei P9 a week old…love setting up a new phone, so far so good…camera is either great or sensational…will let you know when I do. Phone quality both build and call connectivity are fantastic compared to my old S4, quirky interface 2 step process to get to Shortcuts and main menu keys opposite hand to Samsung (not changable)….other than that loving it. Optus $40 My Plan + offer with watch + extra 5GB data (6GB total) $52mth.
My 1100 is nearly 10 years old, might have to get a new one though because Pokémon Go lags a bit and I have problems with the GPS
Having galaxy note3 bought 3 years ago. Still going strong and don't see any need to upgrade may be for another year or more.
I got my oneplus one in Nov 2014 and it is still going strong. I do lose reception sometimes but not sure if that is the phone or my spintel sim.
Huawei U8180 purchased ~April 2012 (droid 2.2). Four years on, original battery still good.
Lumia 640, 7 months old, and it's very ordinary !
6 year old Samsung Galaxy S here:
- Severely cracked screen
- Protector held on by sticky tape
- Browser constantly crashing
- Constant certificate issues on ozbargain (weirdly, the only web site which does it)
- Missing some of the trim around the top of the screen, electronic circuit boards exposed
- Lots of shiny stuff rubbed off
All my friends laugh at me and I just keep saying I'm about to upgrade… which is true, I am always about to upgrade. I hang onto things for a long time.
get the zte blade at woolies $49 -> looks lik an iphone 6
iPhone 4, nearing 3 years. Still looks brand new.
I'm an addict. I have difficulties to sell my old phones and justify myself with ridiculous excuses why I still need them.
I use Nexus 6P and iPhone 6s Plus daily, just ordered Z5 Compact from eBay and wondering how I will implement it to my routine.
I still have Galaxy Note 3 if I need to take down notes why I use it as hotspot. Can't get myself to sell it as I paid 700 euros for it some years ago.
I still have iPhone 5 with Mophie battery in case I go on road trip. Possibly I won't use it again but I don't want to sell it :P
I still have my HTC One M8 which I use for product photos and as alarm clock and casual web browser and YouTube browser on bed.
I bought Lumia 640 4 months back but finally decided to donate it to my parents as I cannot stand Windows OS. And as I could not find any use for it.
I was happy that I managed to put my old Galaxy S3 recently on eBay and now waiting if it finds a new master.
My main fail is that I read OZB site daily and if there is a good deal I find myself going for my credit card. Just like the Sony I just bough :P
wow…I counted 8 different phones
Luckily this hobby is my only money hole :)
How do you compare the 6P's battery life against the 6s plus and note 3?
6P doesn't have that awesome battery. I'd say 6S plus has 20% better battery life.
I'm quite heavy user and empty my 6P quite often in the late afternoon. But I love it as it supports quick charge and I can charge it in the morning rather than my 6s plus which I charge overnight.
I've just been dragged kicking and screaming to a smart phone.
$39, 3 months, ZTE815.I have no idea why people spend more, it's android, got everything and is well fast enough when kept trim….
iphone 5c = 2years and 6months now. my screen LCD broke. still undecided to get it fix or buy the ZTE blade at woolies
iPhone 5s here 2 years, 6 months as well :). If you're a bit handy, I would recommend you give it a try yourself. Parts are fairly cheap from eBay and there are plenty of guides online.
Been running iOS10 Beta for a while and honestly don't think I even need to upgrade until something becomes more economical. As far as I'm aware, there's no phones that really match this size, performance and aesthetics.
Yes i do like the size of the phone.. Yes i was planning to diy the digitizer lcd replacement but heard of the ghost swipping of cheap digitizers.. Planning to just get the glass replaced..
2 years 8 months on my Note 3. Hated it for quite a while, OnePlus 3 is on the way to replace it.
HTC Desire HD, bought in 2010, still pristine condition (always in an Oyster hardcase) and good enough for my needs (no gaming!). It doesn't support 4G network and seems like most carriers are retiring their 3G networks, so I'll need to shop for a new phone or phablet in 6 months or so.
I'm not a big fan of selling/throwing out phones either, so I try not to buy one if it's not a significant upgrade.
My communication behaviour also changed to mostly data-consumption than phone/SMS-ing, so my Kindle Fire HDX takes up that traffic.
LG G2. Forgot when I bought it. Maybe more than 2 years ago from Kogan? Paid $328 dollars for it.
Anyway, it still kicks ass. I love it's compact form factor, photos reasonably good, decent performance, the ROM is stable.
The battery needs replacing but I've got a spare lying around. The hard part is cracking the phone open.
I won't be upgrading any time soon, there are some really nice phones that I want to own, like 1+3 but I'm not willing to shell out $400+ for them. Will play the waiting game and wait for them to drop in price.
I don't use it any more, but I donated my old HTC Desire to my mother in-law. Still working 6 years later, she only uses really basic functionality though.
iPhone 6S Plus - just sent it to my sister last weekend. I ordered a Samsung S7 Edge from Telstra, but they sent an S7 in error, which is on is return journey to Telstra.
I had no phone so went to Australia Post and picked up the Telstra 4GX BUZZ on sale for $59. It's a great phone for the price. I'm thinking of just hanging onto it and not bothering with the S7 Edge now and I'll pick up a new iPhone 7 Plus when they are available.
I'll then give the 4GX BUZZ to my father-in-law (he is 80 and it will be his first mobile device).
I'm on an old Telstra post-paid plan for $10 for 1GB and a few calls and SMS.
Xperia Z2. 2 years old now.
My s5 is startidng to get the moc problem but im slowly backing up contacts and email account back to my e72… i know that its a beast and works flawlessly……
Couldnt belive i still have:E72
E5
Note 2
S5
Zte fit 4gAnd getting delivered is an nokia n8
Hopefully i can score an nokia 808
I've got a Google Nexus 4 that I bought a couple of years ago through a deal on here actually. It's my first smart phone and it's been great. I do wish it had a better camera and the ability to accept SD cards though, and I wouldn't mind a larger screen but otherwise it serves me well and I'll probably be using it for a while longer.
