Questions for drivers

I've always been curious about the following. If you engage in one or more of the following, I would like to know why.

  1. While driving on a busy road, a lot of the time I see cars waiting to turn right from a side street. Isn't it easier to go the back way rather than waiting a long time to turn right? Or even increasing the chance of an accident as you are going across multiple lanes of traffic?

  2. Sometimes I would be behind cars where the back windscreen is not very clear, or there are bubbles. Is this from a bad DIY window tinting job?

  3. When do some drivers need to drive with their head positioned just under the rear vision mirror? They are usually the ones with only one hand on the top of the steering wheel. And they are not looking to overtake at all.

  4. Why do drivers have to turn to the passenger to the left when talking to him/her and they miss the green traffic light? Can't they look straight and talk?

  5. Why do some drivers come to a complete stop at the lights, but leaving a large gap with the white line, or with the car in front, then 10 seconds later, starts inching forward?

  6. Or the type who starts inching forward when already at the white line, yet doesn't take off quickly when the light turns green? I thought those drivers were in a hurry?

    1. Sometimes there is no back road.
    2. Pros can also do this too. I had a colleague have a factory tint job go bubbly after a few years.
    3. ?
    4. Concentrating on the road is of secondary importance to some people when they're driving.
    5. See point 4.
    6. See point 4. I love it when they are doing this and when the light turns green they take ages to start moving… Like they're not concentrating on the road.

Seems concentrating on the road is 7th important thing for OP at most.

    First world problems.

FYI for number 2 - tinting usually degrades over time and bubbles can form. Especially for a car that is around 10 years old.

    1. Sometimes there is no option, sometimes you get stuck because you forget it is a busy time and you would normally go this way when it's not busy.
    2. Might just be dirty, not everyone washes their car every weekend.
    3. Drivers with style over substance. Slouching while driving shows you are cool, like big white stickers on the windows, loud music, flat brimmed caps and milo tin exhausts - Muppet.

Five. Love these drivers - lane filterers best friend! Please more people do this :p

    1. This is a how long is a piece of string question. In large cities some drivers rely entirely on their GPS and not accustomed to alternate or route planning. Also some back roads require crossing even more dangerous intersections (eg. less visibility, line of sight). Cautious drivers and the elderly who have all day know they are in no additional danger because they will wait for a 100% safe gap even if takes 30 minutes.

    2. In the A.C.T. it is legal to grow marijuana. Marijuana smoke will leave an oily, fatty deposit which fogs up the glass. Also many owners refuse to clean their windows, especially their rear window but they still carry articles within their boot that give off fumes. You'll see a lot of commercial vans in loading zones that don't have any windows.

    3. The owners are trying to imitate the driving position of a drag/drift/race car. If they also have an aftermarket steering wheel but the car is standard height then its for fun. If the car has lowered suspension and soft compound tyres (+$600 each) then its for practical reasons.

    4. It's that specific individuals communication style. Their consideration for pedestrian safety and control of their vehicle is secondary to holding a conversation with their passenger. Watching a person's lips will improve listening accuracy + attentiveness so they may be wanting to be heard.

    5. I see this often for strategic/fuel saving drivers who do not wish to waste fuel drag racing at traffic lights. Usually they are first to pull up to the lights so there is an empty lane next to them. A cautious driver might hang back to indicate to others they're in no in a hurry. When a car does pull up they then identify that its much slower so they change their mind about wasting fuel when lights go green.

    6. These are nearly always 100% automatic transmission drivers. They could be driven by a lazy driver. If the driver doesn't keep enough pressure on the brake pedal the car's 1st gear pushes the car forward.

  • Mate, please mind you own business and focus on the road, instead of caring other people's back windscreen.
