  • seems like a nifty combo product - esp for $29. Anybody had any first hand experience?

    • i use it as a simple airplay receiver and works a treat!

      • Airplay for $29?!

Can you completely turn off the WIFI repeater function?

    • I've just spent a bit of time looking at this, and I was searching for one simple word. That word was "stereo". If your music is merely wallpaper, then mono is probably fine but it has been a little bit passe for actually listening to it since the 1950s.
Generally, when a keyword isn't trumped, it isn't there. As a wi-fi extender, it gets pretty much panned.

      • The product datasheet on D-Link's website mentions a "3.5 mm Stereo Jack" so I doubt it's only mono. Also, multiple reviews focusing on the audio streaming functionality do not mention that the audio is downsampled to mono which I think they would if it were the case.

          I'm a cynic - the jack itself may be "stereo", but most of the reviews all focus on connecting to your speaker, not amp or speakers. It would be OK if it were stereo, but I have learned to assume down, rather than up as it rarely leads to disappointment, but can result in a pleasant surprise:-}

Remember, a pessimist thinks things can't get any worse, but an optimist knows better.

  • $29 @ jb hi-fi as well.

  • So, I suppose its like Chromecast Audio?

    • Only 3.5 audio so no phono or SP-DIF and probably not stereo - it does double as a [flakey] wi-fi extender tho. It requires an airplay-> DNLA converter app for Android.
If you have an i-Phone tho, this would be a better bet than the chrome one.

Might be faster to go to JB or price match at HN

  • Is this worth it. Might just buy it, looking for a cheap WiFi extender.

    • looking for a cheap WiFi extender

The main deal here is the pseudo Airplay functionality. There are better WiFi extenders. None of them are any use, really, since they share bandwidth

      • Can you provide links to any that are at this price range?

I'm looking for a cheap wifi extender as well

  • Is this the new permanent price or have they lowered the price so they don't have to price beat JB?

  • Picked one up from jb. Can confirm that it is sterio.
