TRS Drop Box - Sydney Airport

Hi

I have seen few posts where our friends have mentioned that there is a drop box in Sydney airport to process TRS claims. I couldn't find any information regarding this on the official website(s).

Can anyone who traveled recently or submitted their claims via drop box please confirm the below

1 Where exactly is this drop box inside the airport ?
2 Is there any form that we need to fill & submit ?
3 How long does it take to process the requests(from your experiences) ?

Thanks and appreciate your help.

I've never heard of such thing - although I'm doubting it even exists since they won't able to inspect the goods and see that it's being taken outside the country - which is one of the conditions for the tax refund.

There's also no mention of this on the TRS site.

The dropbox is only available during busy period, e.g. Xmas and New year, when there are so many people lining up for the refund. Not available all the times. And also, TRS has now introduced the new QR code check, they may have removed the drop box completely, unless it is absolutely necessary.

You will be given a form to fill in when it is available. Simply entered your bank account or credit card information, address together with your receipt, seal it and drop it in the box.

  • went through Melbourne airport a week or so ago with a new ipad pro and an apple TV4 to claim for. There were two queues (after immigration and passport control)- one queue was for people who had completed the process online; one was for people who wished to make the claim there. The queues were moving slowly although not all that long. An airport officer waved myself and quite a few others over to some tables they had set up, telling us that the queue would take about 45 mins for us to get through (about 6 people in front of me) and asked us to fill in a form using the information from our receipts, and to place the form and our receipts in a stamped, self addressed envelope. It wasn't until we had handed them back that the woman told us it would take up to 60 days for our claims to be processed!

When we arrived home ten days later, there was the envelope addressed in my own handwriting, containing our receipts and a receipt from TRS that our refund had been processed. However i note that the sum mentioned has not yet showed up in the account we nominated - which either means it has not yet been credited, or I wrote the bloody account number down incorrectly (not entirely unlikely!)

At no stage were we ever asked to show the items.

TL DR - Melb - two queues, no drop box; however, a DIY system seemed to be in place to cope with a number of flights; you will obviously not get a cash refund - but the paperwork to credit to the relevant payment source seems to go smoothly/quickly; make sure you double and triple check the details you are writing down; they didn't at any time mention wanting to see or having anything to do with sighting the goods.
