  • Worked for me. And for approx 20c extra you can also get .INFO thrown in. Good deal. Get it while you can. I've never had any issues with GoDaddy. Their Domain Management is really good, and so is their free iPhone app.

  • If it wasn't almost $12 for private whois, then I would get them, but I just cant justify all that extra for hidden whois when my current registrar has $8.99 domains all the time and 50 cent whois

But otherwise good bargain for those who dont need hidden registration

    • +1

      who's your current register?

      • Layered Networks have US$9 domains with FREE whois for all domains registered or transferred to them.

I can't see the value of these $1 GoDaddy domains considering in a year's time you'll have to renew it for AU$12 + AU$10 if you want whois privacy.

        • Can you explain what the "whois" privacy is all about? I'm new to all this and don't understand the risks… and what I should be watchful for.

          Thanks.

@d123: Domain registrants (people who register domains) are legally obliged to have an accurate and current name, mailing address, email address and phone number attached to their domains in the WHOIS system. For a fee, registrars (companies that you register domains through) will replace your information with intermediate details (such their own details) so that your details are hidden.

The only risk in having your details exposed is that they can potentially be harvested by spammers, in particular by other (less principled) domain registrars, who will then send you "renewal" notices for your domains in an attempt to trick you into transferring your domains to them. No problem as long as you're vaguely on the ball!

            • +1

@stylecrime: That's not the only risk.

You may run a site about a controversial topic, for example. You don't want every looney in the world having access to your contact information in that instance.

        • So, get several domains iordern one (is it 5 or 6?), so you pay nil for Privacy.

Today, .info domains were showing as costing just Au $ 1.00 (use 'em for fillers
or - better - gifts for friends. ;-)

(I don't know if the free Privacy applies to the domain you got for this tip's
Deal, so maybe you're right. Bur if you register domains regularly, this'll
be the way to get low cost Private rego's for most if not all of them… ;-)

  • What's the renewal fee like?

    • It's covered above.

      • Above is wrong - currently GoDaddy domains are US$10.69.

        • ~$10 is a rough price average, if you check retailmenot's coupons for Godaddy they have various coupons valid throughout the year. They also give you discounts for registering over longerterms (3 yrs, 5 etc.).

        • I have several domains with GoDaddy and I never pay full price for renewal. There are always coupon codes available around the place which you can find by googling. I end up paying US$7-8 for renewal.

Expensive, that is where they get you.

  • Great deal, thanks. 1and1.com had a FREE domain offer (and still do?) but they had a technical glitch (or so they said) that prevented them from completing the domain registration. Rather than leave my application in limbo and risk losing it, I registered using this offer. All done, domain registered safely.

  • Paypal option doesn't appear in the payment method. Anyone knows y?

  • Works for transfers too, w00t!

Just transferred and added 1 year extension to the domain that I scored for free from ventraIP (formerly Cove) last year! Epic!

    • I wonder if I can extend an existing domain at this price.

    • Can anyone explain how transfers work? Not entirely sure of the process

      • You can initiate the transfer from GoDaddy. Then you need to go to your current registrar and do a few things from there (unlock the domain, get some kind of security number).

I've used GoDaddy quite a bit, this price is very good and renewals are alright as well. But their web site is very slow and over complicated. They also try to sell you dozens of things you don't really need during the purchase process. Once it's all setup it's fine though.

Also, they no longer do free email redirections. They offer a free email account if that's useful to you.

    No private whois.

  • -2

Do people really care about whois?? I know I couldn't give a rats.

    • +1

You think that everyone lives their life like you and thinks like you?

  • JUST NOW, .info domains are A$1.00 (ie, AU $ 1.00) at GoDaddy.com

So, after selecting a discount domain name (with this Deal's code)
why not get a .info domain or several.

IN FACT, YOU GET FREE PRIVATE REGO's on any other 5 or 6 (which?)
additional domains you register - either with the discounted one
or in a separate order (but the number of rego'd domains must be
5 or 6, for FREE PRIVATE REGOs - ie, your contact details hidden.

GoDaddy is the all-round best domain registrar service I know of,
& I get nothing for adding that here.

    YMMV. ;-)
