I used Wine back in the day, is that no longer an option?

Unless I'm mistaken Crossover is just a commercial version of Wine… I believe that Crossover provides a more 'windows' like experience for installing apps and stuff. Happy to be corrected though.

From what I can tell this is a little simpler to use but is almost completely based off Wine. Buying this product supports Wine since they are a significant contributor to its development. CrossOver would also get some updates earlier.

You can still run Wine as normal instead.

I think the main thing to be aware of is this buys you 12 months worth of upgrades.

    It's actually pretty cool software,
if you just want to click a button for various windows software for Linux then this is top notch.
maybe im too tight but i think the asking price is steep for what it is.

you can try this for free

    • The overheads on (free) virtual machine software - on modern CPUs is really low these days too - although that may cost a windows license.

  • This is way too steep.

  • seems worthwhile if it was lifetime upgrades, but given how quickly upgrades come out and that they will probably be essential, it looks like you might get 2 years out of it before you need to fork out again.

  • If you really have the need to spend money on free software I'd say donating to Wine would be a better option.
