1500 Piece Lego 10697 Classic Creative Box $79 at Kmart

900

Lego classic creative box 10697
1500 pieces, 39 colours. Not sure if it's a catalogue sale price but seems like a damn good deal.

Picked up one in chaddy. can't seem to buy online but it'll show stores that have stock and they seem to restock because we got last 2 at chaddy yesterday and today has stock again.

$79 - even if it's full price it's a good deal

  • looks like its a sale price OP! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199497 shows it came to this price once before on sale

    Good find!

Priced at $89.95 on Lego Shop plus delivery. 10698 at Myer is on special so it might be better value at $55.96. I suggest checking out the parts to determine what you prefer.

Found the Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster at Lego Shop. Tempting.

    • +2

The one at Myers only has half the pieces

      • +7

But some of the pieces in the Myer set are larger (e.g. 8x2 block only in 10698). Weight of 10697 is 2251g versus 10698 is 1592g so price:weight ratio is close to the same.

Looking at bugsucher's comment below 10698 at BigW is better value.

        Yes, I've over thought this.

By that reasoning you should be buying nothing but megabloks or Lego duplo.

Qty > weight when it comes to Lego

        • +3

          @clickship:

Qty > weight when it comes to Lego

Drastic over generalisation. It depends on what you need. Going by that rule, everyone's Lego collection should be the same: thousands upon thousands of 1x1 blocks. And considering blocks are sold by volume in American Lego stores, weight is a reasonable metric for value.

        • @johnno07:thats taking it out of context. both are sets of lego with various pieces, to say that you prefer bigger or heavier pieces as opposed to more and varied pieces is a poor calculation of value.

you are right that it depends on what you need but we are talking about big sets of lego, not pieces to make something in particular to which my statement that qty > weight is true.

        • @clickship: As I clearly pointed out in my post some of the pieces in the 10698 set are larger (e.g. 8x2 blocks) which enable building of structures which would not be possible with the 10697 set.

For this type of set which is largely generic pieces weight is an accepted measure for determining the value.

@mathew42: actually the 10697 has more 8x2 pieces tan the 10698.

i don't have a side by side comparison but i doubt there is anything significant in the smaller pack that isn't in the larger pack as they are both in the same set range.

weight isn't a good measure for lego value. its all about qty and different types of pieces.

you can compare the sets here: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10697-1

      10698 is $48 at bigw

        Great find!

      • Has like half the pieces.

      • More expensive per piece, but as you say might be better pieces.

    Picked up one in chaddy

can't believe chaddy.com.au doesn't go to the chadstone shopping centre website!

      • +1

It's kind of McDonald's stores rebranding to Maccas, Chadstone needs to go to Chaddy

        • might work for chaddy but i dont think highpoint would like their website to be knifepoint.

        • @dasher86: highpoint can stay as it is but doncaster needs to be called donny

Out of all those colours, when I was a kid we had red, white and grey, dark blue. Pretty sure there were no green blocks, just trees/flowers etc.

Kids these days don't know how lucky they have it ;)

    • i thought the classic base plate was always green?

      • Yar, bases, trees etc, but not blocks themselves. I am amazed at the colours these days. Still love checking out sites like Brothers Brick and will be packing my Red Five X-Wing to take over to Japan with me in 2 weeks.

        Long live LEGO.

  • Thanks, ordered a 10697 online.

  • what can i build with this lol :)

  • +2

I am building fish hides for my fish tank.

  • Is this just a bigger version of the 583 piece box found at Costco for $28.99? My son is turning 4 soon and want something a bit better then duplo/mega blocks. 1500 piece seems excessive especially if it doesn't have its own box - quite like that feature and the big w one..

      plastic tub FTW cjb!

Get a flat lid (and wide) one to make it easier to find the small blocks. The 10697 is the best deal going, however it's always at this price at Kmart. Trick is to find a store with stock.

    • +1

officeworks and coles have plastic containers like sistema or those draw containers. thats the best way to keep them organised i find. and you can sort them by type / colour or whatever you prefer that way rather than just tipping out the whole box every time you want to make something.

    • +1

I suggest a large denim mat with draw strings is the best way to store a small lego collection and for playing with a large lego collection.

Some examples but suggest heavier fabric. You can make your own reasonably simply.

  • Are there any boxes like these that have just 1 stud wide bricks? Have never found much use for the 2-wide bricks which seem to make up the bulk of these sets.

  • I need this in my life somehow; 30, and don't have kids!

    • im 30 with 2 kids, i will definitely be building with it when they go to sleep

  • wanna buy but I'm afraid I am not a creative person:'(

  • I bought this set last year on sale for the little one, a bit disappointed as it's lacking some important parts, and some of the colors are just terrible for building much. I think I paid $50 from BigW from memory.
