Seagate Expansion 2TB Portable Hard Drive $114 @ Harvey Norman, Officeworks & The Good Guys

690

Very nice price and a perfect time to use Officeworks' pricebeat policy. I'm guessing they'll drop their price shortly to match Harvey Norman, so get in quick if you're in the market for one. And plenty of stock everywhere. Good luck :)

    Nice update drive for ps4

    • not quite, filling 2TB is trivial nowadays, though is the max size that fits,
the 3TB+ 2.5" ones are too thick for a proper fit :(

      • +2

        huh?

        • +2

          roughly translated -

2TB is unfortunately the biggest size you can properly get in a PS4, as anything over that is too big to fit in the console. It needs to be below 9.5mm thickness.

    • Just an FYI for anyone considering this - apparently this drive can cause an occasional beeping noise to come from the PS4 every 30-60 minutes or so.

Probably won't bother most people, but I know it would annoy me so I'm settling for a 1.5TB drive :)

      • Hasn't this issue been resolved with firmware updates?

        • I haven't read anything to suggest that

        • +1

@Snakey Chook: fair enough. It seems to be so hard to pickup which machines will do it and which wont. There seem to be some users who report no problems, and some that do. Maybe specific PS4 models are ok and others aren't.

      • Ive had one of these drives in my PS4 for the last 4 months or so.. Never had any beeping coming out of the console.

  • Bought the drive from OW a couple months ago - missed out on like $11 damn!!

    • Oh no!

    • +2

I got the 3TB from officeworks for 119 month or so back as well! NOW that was a bargain!

So this was a massive $117 at HN, last week. Be still my beating heart.

  • Worth noting that HN advertise with a 12 month warranty, while OW says 3 years.

  • +4

The product has a 3 year warranty from Seagate, regardless of what HN say.

Finally, I would much prefer to spend the extra dollars on a WD drive rather than a Seagate.

  • Meh. Got this HDD in December 2014 on Amazon for $109 including postage. Prices are not dropping as fast as they used to.

  • Yep, this is the one I squeezed out of its case and put in the PS4. Good price. The only time you'll see it cheaper is when JB does their 30% off seagate portable HDDs

    • Did you get the occasional beep? Apparently an issue with some of the larger drives going into the PS4 cause a beeping issue.

      • Actually no, thankfully. However, when I tried to put the old PS4 500GB drive back in the seagate casing to use as an external drive I did mess something up and destroyed it. I advise being extra careful on this second step if you want to salvage an external drive out of the deal.

Bought Seagate 3TB Expansion Portable Hard Drive - $119 @ Officeworks back in May

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246124

    • Yep, same here, unlikely to find those sort of prices again for a little while though :(

    Awesome price

    Great find

  • They're $117 at the Good Guys: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/seagate-2tb-expansion-portabl…
But Good Guys will refund 120% of the difference if you find a lower price from an approved retailer after you buy. (Harvey Norman is on the approved list) as store credit. https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee
Or they'll also just do a regular price beat https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/pay-less

    • So for a $3 difference you'll get what….$3.60 back as a store credit?

      • So yeah a price beat is probably better I would think, I linked to that too.

But for me it gets worse than that, I bought one of these from the Good Guys a few days ago so I figured I'll do refund the difference because I obviously can't price beat after I've already bought it.

After I submitted it I had a look at the receipt and realised the sales guy gave me $2 off, so yeah I'm up for a $1.20 credit ha ha. There's being an ozbargainer then there's just being ridiculous! But I've got some vouchers so I'll add the credit to that so not quite as silly I guess.

  • strange questions, but does it work with xbox one as an external storage drive?

    • +1

Yep - have it hooked up to my 500gb one.

      • Thanks mate

  • Not bad, but I've recently bought 4TB version on Amazon for $115.98USD + shipping:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017KE8OG0/ref=od_aui_deta…

    • I think internally that one contains 2 x 2tb drives.

  • Can verify that heaps of stock at Clarence st, Sydney (CBD) and they do price match. Also can confirm that they do contain a Samsung Harddrive (DOM: 01/16) and the USB adaptor can be removed for us in ps4.

  • some reason personally every portable seagate hdd I've bought has died or become unusable in some way.

  • Grabbed a couple tonight at OW Preston, @ $108.30 after price-beat.

  • FYI Was just at the officeworks at Pitt Street Sydney, doesn't look like they have any.

    • Actually ignore this, realised the tag they use in Officeworks has a different part number but its actually the same item.

  • FYI, OfficeWorks now advertising $114
