But I don't want to be a pirate!
A pretty good price for locally available down jacket.
I don't know how warm it would be since it is "lightweight".
You could go on something like eBay and Aliexpress if you want more range and there are some cheaper ones ~A$30
It will arrive for spring though, which renders it worthless for this winter… So, if you are planning ahead it's good to take a look there too.
I bought last years and this looks like a minor resign on the last version. That JKT was fantastic. I have a lot of 4am starts for races and triathlons over the winter and this JKT over a long sleeve top and some gloves kept me toasty on the 3C mornings on the beach… I'm going back for seconds!
I wonder if ultralight is being used instead of the word thin, that said often Aldi often surprises me with their quality.
How do these compare with Uniqlo?
uniqlo and these would be similar I think. Its The North Face which are 10000% better. You can even use those on everest with some wool thermals.
Yeah the ones from North Face cost an arm and a leg though
Which is what you would lose from frostbite wearing the wrong gear… -_- can't win :(
@OYC:
Don't think I'll be climbing Everest anytime soon so pretty safe for the time being.
Thanks for the tip, I was thinking of a day trip to Everest with the family on Sunday and we were going to wear jeans and t-shirts.
Hashtag humble brag.
@neofelis:
IMG Direct?@montorola: Na, Inferior Mountain Gear. Its supported by Aldi
@neofelis: climb to the top u girly man
Can't tell if serious but you shouldn't forgo shoes. Cos some of them swankier cabins might have a "no shoes, no shirt, no entry" policy.
@neofelis: How long were you waiting on a cold weather deal to blurt that out?
The north face ones also make you 100% less cool, not a pun, like people will think less of you.
yeah. but normally from people who wont/cant spend that much
@juventino:
Maybe by a few? but it's considered "basic" territory. Like ykno, shaving the sides of your head, wearing obey clothing, listening to drake or vampire weekend.
Had the Aldi one for a couple of years, fine for Melbourne winters, the zip died so I bought the Uniqlo equivalent, it was useless in comparison, no where near warm enough. Returned it and bought a Berghaus jacket from Mountain Designs this week, $200, it's warmer than the Aldi but not significantly so. If Aldi got their act together and sold this earlier in winter I would have bought one.
you can return stuff to uniqlo after wearing it???
Not inner wear or briefs.
I wonder what the Aldi label says eg 700gms down or something?
Patagonia are the only company that verifies the ethical treatment of the ducks that are used for the down jackets they make. The cheap knock offs probably not.
Patagonia is amazing! The Ultralight Down Hoody is worth every cent!
Oh, and http://featheredfriends.com/ is ethically sourced as well.
If it helps anyone, Kmart had some lightweight down jackets on sale last week for $15 (short) & $25 (longer)…worth a look, there might still be some around.
Thanks for this. My local Kmart had none (then again it's a pretty small one). Went to a larger, 24hr Kmart and they had them for $15 down from $29. Got the jacket and a vest too. Not sure if quality is same as Aldi's but as I'm only looking for a basic jacket I reckon it'll do!.
No worries, glad to be of assistance. :)
will they work for minus 20-25 degrees? was thinking to go to Siberia for Christmas eve…
lol it might be even minus 30-35
Ultra light down jackets are made to be…well… ultra light. The Uniqlo ones pack into the size of a can of soft drink. I always carry on in my bag in case it gets cold and I get caught out. Dont bring a knife to a gun fight.
If I ever going to siberia/himalayas/alaska, I will still pack one of them as emergency or for extra layer because it does not take much space. However it will not be my main cold weather outerwear.
Upvoted because it's Aldi. Aldi's winter clothing ranges from decent to excellent quality and the price is very affordable compared to Anaconda, kathmandu, etc. My only complaint is that a lot of their winter gear sells out 1 hour after opening on Saturday. They should keep thermals and jackets permanently in stock throughout June.
How do you get down off an elephant?
very clever. you cant as they dont have feathers
are they puffy jackets ?
