IGA are having a sale on Stella Artois 24pk slabs.
I can confirm 100% it is not the brewed under license rubbish that Dan Murphy and 1stchoice sell, it is the proper imported stuff from belgium and it is pretty cheap.

Good find, thanks. I'll be grabbing a few.
Which IGA? Couldn't see the deal in the catalogues for IGAs around Adelaide City..
try boozle.com.au to see if it is near you, I know it is in melb
OMG i think i love you. i will definitely be using this site often!
im pretty sure iga dont sell alcohol in sa
Ahh right that's probably why then :( good deal though! wish I was back in Melbourne..
The imported stuff is always cheaper anyway…. Might have to pick up a couple of cartons of the old wife beater.. :)
so why the negative vote - this isnt a valid reason for a negative vote - 3 hours to give one or it's revoked… as per our guidelines
Not a big fan of stella but a deal's a deal
Doubt you can pick these up in QLD stores either.
Just been to the Bentleigh IGA in Melbourne and can confirm that the beer on Offer is NOT IMPORTED and it is the one brewed under license by CUB, I have asked them for the imported one but they said that that is what been received from the wholesaler and all shops will likely to have the same stock, disappointed!
Stella is licenced to CUB. Any product that is not marked so or not distributed by them, technically should not be sold in AUS as it won't comply with Aust. food labelling laws.
The reason you would pay less is because CUB don't put their fee on the product, plus they don't make it if it is imported. some shops buy in their won stock from over seas or a different wholesaler, but CUB don't like it and try to stop it.
I can confirm that an IGA i went to (point cook) they had a very big pallet of imported stella. You guys are wrong. If you want more proof, go to http://lasoomedia1.com.au/imageicon/IGA/PROD/J00508004/C_001… - The image clearly indicates "5.2% alcohol" which 100% confirms it is the imported stuff.
wish i wasn't in SA… sigh
Stella Artois was sold in the UK under the slogan "Reassuringly Expensive".
Meanwhile, across the north sea, it was dirt cheap and the local equivalent of VB / XXXX / Emu .
Funny how it becomes upmarket as soon as it gets exported.
Beer doesn't travel well at all. As long as the recipe is followed exactly I dare you to try and tell the difference, especially in a watery lager like Stella. You're actually probably better off with the locally produced stuff.
Agreed…Surely the fresher the better…
Not true, brewed under license usually means a different modified recipe. Some of the most popular beer is imported here.
I've had Guiness in England, Ireland and Australia. The stuff in Dublin was magic, the stuff here in Australia is muddy water.
I agree, Guinness doesn't travel well at all, and the recipe used in Australia is slightly different which gives it a different taste
Wampus speaks the truth. One of the main reasons imported beer tastes worse than locally brewed (on licence) beer is that travelling across the equator heats the shipment up; this causes chemical changes in the beer, which is why it doesn't taste as good when it gets here. Pretty much all imported beer is coming from north of the equator, so it all has that problem.
Do yourself a favour - buy the locally brewed stuff.
This isn't just some rubbish that I've made up either - this comes from the legendary Chuck Hahn, who knows a thing or two about making beer. (we we're lucky enough to have a guest lecture by Mr Hahn a few years back at uni - with product samples!)
Why don't you get a locally made stella and compare it with an import stella, there is a difference and most people will agree that imported beer taste much better, equator or no equator.
@andy19363: nope, imported stella is definitely a lot better.
same with becks.
@andy19363: andy19363, you're right (i suspect) - most people believe that the imported stuff will taste better, so of course it does.
The only way to settle the argument is with single or double blind taste testing.
Check:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/local-beers-are-a-…
near the bottom it says:
"Beck's imported from Germany was beaten by locally brewed Beck's.
"Beer goes stale within three to six months of bottling and most imported brews travel to Australia on container ships," Mr Zinn said."
@mister_snrub: hmm…my favourite, James squire golden top of the ale list…..no surprise….wish they did some specials on that……. :)
IGA don't sell liquor in WA
Can get it at liquor traders australia in wembley for $39.90 (their usual price). The place is open to the public you have to buy 9 litres minimum though.
http://www.ltaliquor.com.au/ProductList.asp?ProdClas=35&Prod…
too far. i live south of the river. wonder what 1st Choice have today.
Some do, e.g. IGA Canning Bridge sells liquor.
Our licensing rules in WA are very odd.
isn't the liquor section Cellarbrations though? i don't think it is under IGA but i've not been there at all this year so i wouldn't remember.
Yes. We have this stupid law that supermarkets cannot sell alcohol.
But its OK if they are two "different" shops in the same room.
I bought Stella from Mr.Liquor in NSW for $39; 5% alcohol, made in Belgium. I think they still have it at same price.
Didn't someone say 5% was brewed in Aus?
My local IGA had the locally brewed version, despite showing a tag that mentioned it was imported.
Rang a few places and ended up finding the imported ones hehe, nice going to enjoy some tonight
Yes, 5.2% is imported, 5% isn't. Smart man. I was lucky enough to find it the first place I went though.
Why have you got $39 instead of $39.99 in your title.
I realise it is only 99 cents, but in non marketing speak that makes the price $40.
get stuffed
It says: brewed by: n.v. InBev Belgium s.a.,21 Boulevard Industriel, B-1070 Brussels.
Shouldn't it be brewed in Leuven?
It was when I last visited. I had to laugh when I went to the bottle shop and he tried to sell me imported Stella. If you go through the effort of importing beer, at least make it something decent. There are so many similar tasting local beers which would taste a lot nicer fresh than Stella, it is still a budget beer after all.
in most cases local beers are always better than imported beer because of the freshness.
in most cases (no pun intended), CUB is crap
Not on special at all in central NSW, appears to be Vic catalog item (maybe others states too but not here). Wish poster had stated where he was from or linked the specific regional catalog. Check your regional specials before fronting up to the store and wasting everyones' time!
bier bargain!
