I just recently moved to Australia and still looking for an ISP for my new place. I did some research and the more I searched, I got confused more. So I think it might be better to ask for opinions from people.
My place is in WA Metro area, I checked on Telstra and Optus website, I think only ADSL/ADSL2+ available in the area.
My purposes for the internet is streaming music, Youtube videos and a bit of gaming (LOL, CS:Go…), and there are about 3 or 4 people in the house. So I think I am looking for Unlimited Data and decent speed.
Now it comes to the step of choosing providers which gave me headache. After a quick search on Whistleout , it showed my options for IPS are Spintel, AusBBS, Exetel, TPG, Barefoot, Australia Broadband, Optus and iPrimus.
It would be really helpful if you can help me to choose which one to go with. The speed might not be fastest (should be enough for online gaming), but I need it to be stable. And is it better to get my own modem or get the one from the providers?
Thanks again.
Ignore Whistleout.. They're likely promoting the companies that pay them. You can connect with pretty much anyone on ADSL.
Cause you're on ADSL, speed is irrelevant.. Your line speed wont change with ISP.
I'd go for TPG. You're better off buying a mid-high end modem in the $200 range. Or if that's too expensive, something like the TP Link W8980.
Check if you can get cable Internet from Telstra(ie is there Foxtel cable running down the street?)
If so, that's a bit more expensive but you'll get a much nicer connection!
Telstra, don't offer Unlimited plans, but they do offer 1000Gb plans.
Also check if your area is getting NBN soon.

If it is, then look at buying a modem that's ADSL and NBN (FttN) compatible…
