I more interested in the time machine that 1-day used to get a 5th gen ipod touch!!!

  • Should be 3rd Generation eh?

      • +1

Actually this is probably 1st/2nd gen, due to the 8gb drive. hmms. Something fishy

        • That makes a big difference!
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iPhone_OS_devices
          Lucky mine's a 3GS.
The 2nd gen is 620 MHz (underclocked to 532 MHz)
compared to the third gen's 833 MHz (underclocked to 600 MHz).
Also twice the DRAM. (whatever that is lol)

          • @leonheart1: this is an ipod not iphone…

            • @rle02: Yeah but it has the same speed as the 3rd gen ipod touch.

          • @leonheart1: Just curious, why do Apple underclock the processor?

            • @adriancfc: Safety issues I'm guessing.
I read somewhere about a person who had an iphone exploded in their face.
              So maybe that's why.

            • @adriancfc: To conserve battery power I'd think.

              • @[Deactivated]: 100% correct. To conserve battery. If a CPU is clocked 10% less it will use almost exactly 10% less power. And the device battery will last for 10% longer…

                • @covert: Why underclock? Why not get a CPU has a clock speed of 10% less? I'm assuming that should run at the same power and also come at a lower cost too.

                  • @TCM: perhaps in the future with the new firmware and some additional features require those extra power, they will be able to run at full speed?

            • @adriancfc: to make sure it does not explode in your pocket!

  • lolz :D 5th gen :D

I see a lot of deals on the 8gb ipod Touch lately. It's looking increasingly likely this model is being end of lifed.

To clarify, there are three models of ipod touch currently: 8/32/64GB. The 32/64GB models are current generation, introduced late last year using the same hardware (minus phone/GPS) as last year's iPhone 3GS. The iPod Touch 8GB is the 2008 model (much like the current iPhone 3G 8GB is the 2008 model). Slower processor, etc.

Why does this matter? In the next few months Apple will release iPhone OS 4.0. The older generation (8GB models) will not support some features, including multitasking.

So either buy the 32GB model for ~$350 or wait would be my advice. Unless of course this just doesn't matter to you in which case you may pick up a bargain.

  • Judging by the pix on their site, it's a 2nd gen model - 1st gen doesn't have volume control (no builtin speaker) and 3rd gen doesn't come in 8gb. Still ok as a toy for my son - saves him accidently ringing people on my iPhone. :D

Or costing you $10,000 on your phone bill, as one of our pollies found out…

It's such a hassle to charge and carry 2 devices when most mid to high end phone can do everything a media player can.

  • hahahaha.. they have updated the page, just says "Apple iPod Touch 8GB" now.

    • +2

spoke to their online chat support. it's definately a 2nd gen which is the latest 8gb model.

  • how do u "watch TV" on this thing?

    • +3

Don't forget Dicksmith are having a sale on the Apple Ipod 8GB on May 20th. They haven't put the price yet apparently because it such a great deal. I think it was $200 last time it was on sale.

    • +1

Ahh! The dilemma. No matter which deal I go for the other one is bound to be the best.

    • oo thanks.
I'm looking to get an ipod touch and I can't get this 1-day one since I don't have access to a credit card right now.

    • ARGH, it's $218!

anyone else waiting for an ipad deal?

i thought i'd never say this but after checking out some reviews and videos of it operating remote desktop/multimedia, i'm convinced i want one. $629 isn't too bad a price!

but would be better if there was a deal somewhere for it.

  • WHY DONT THEY TAKE PAYPAL!!! AAHHHH!!!

  • so what generation itouch is it exactly? i cant see a specific description

    • it's gen 2, if u check the comments section it's mentioned by a rep

  • "there’s even a maps location based service for if you ever get stranded." - Whut?
If you get stranded, this thing doesn't have 3G or EDGE you know..

    • It will be based on known wifi networks.

    • +1

So aslong as you get stranded out the front of McDonalds with free wifi, maps will be of zero help to you in this scenario.

      • Yes, but with the amount of McDonalds around these days, chances are you WILL end up stranded infront of one!

  • How come when I do a google search for iPod touch 8gb price I get heaps of results for 8gb 3rd generation if there isn't one?

    • +1

Common misconception brought on by Apple marketing it as "new" last September. Fact is there isn't a 3rd gen 8GB, trust us!

Steve Jobs even said so at the recent iPhone 4.0 announcement. The 8GB current gen won't be able to run new OS features when the iPod's software is updated in a few months (due to it being too slow and old), while the current 32Gb touch will be able to because it's 3rd gen and faster than the 8Gb. 8Gb is old tech.
