Is there a rough estimate for when these cards will be back in stock?

  • +2

I wouldn't touch anything but EVGA from overseas, RE: Warranty.

    • +3

Why? You'd deal with Amazon, and they're awesome with regards to warranty.

      • Do they help 1 year down the track?

        • +2

As far as I know, yes. I've only dealt with them on items that have a 1 year warranty. From what I've read though they cover the manufacturers warranty period.

        • -1

@Porthos: If you're sure then I guess it's fine, but personally I'm not certain they will do that. I know Amazon are really great with returns and stuff, but I'd rather not take the gamble myself.

        • @Porthos:

So if the product has a 3 year warranty, Amazon will cover it for the duration?

And does Amazon cover postage costs of returns during the warranty period or is it worn by the consumer?

        • +5

@TilacVIP: Amazon cover the full 3yr and cover the return postage. They are a great company.

        • @TilacVIP: No one wants to deal with warranty, you want your new card to work until its obsolete. Touch wood.

        • @TilacVIP: Yep, as I said as far as I know they do, there's been plenty of reports on here as well as various other sites saying that they will. As Agret confirmed as well.

If unsure though, maybe email them and ask about it? Guess it is the only way to truly know, but having dealt with them on a previous warranty claim they were awesome, better than pretty much any place I've been to here.

        • +1

I have had a good track run with Amazon warranties. I had the Logitech G930 Wireless headset which a lot of people had issues with the mini usb socket. Mine started to fail right at the end of the warranty period and they replaced it with a new one for free (they paid shipping). Then this new one did exactly the same thing at the end of its warranty (which got refreshed) and this time i just got a refund as they werent stocking them anymore due to the widespread issues with them - I had to pay shipping however which cost a bit but still got over half my original price paid back in the end.
All that for 2 years worth of heavy use and I am pretty happy.

        • +4

Bit of a grey area, I contacted Amazon support specifically about this, and here is the transcript:

          Adam: Thank you for waiting.
I do apologize but upon checking with my resources we are unable to process a replacement or a refund past the 30-day return window since Amazon.com will not accept returns more than 30 days after you receive the shipment. What we can do instead is contact the manufacturer instead on your behalf for other options that you can take for the item.
Me: ok this is explicitly for a faulty product not a change of mind
and for the item to be repaired not refunded
Adam: I completely understand Daniel . For the repair of the item you also need to contact the manufacturer if the return window of the item has already expired. If you receive the item defective, you may return the item for a full refund within 30 days of delivery. We will also pay the return shipping cost of the item.

        • +1

@rysith: Clearly that's wrong as myself and a number of other people have mentioned in this deal alone.

(Not saying you're wrong, saying that the rep is).

        • +3

@Porthos: I would say it's probably right, but Amazon have been kind enough to go one step further, but I wouldn't call it a rule that they will always do it.

        • +3

          @skazclaw:

Yeh, hence why it seems a bit of a grey area - $1000 GPU where warranty may or may not be honoured via Amazon is a bit of a risk as well as hurting any resale potential.

        • -1

@skazclaw: I'd just rather rely on Amazon to deal with the warranty than someone like EVGA 'maybe' covering postage to Taiwan.

        • +1

@TilacVIP: Amazon pays for return shipping AFAIK.

But in any case it's not worth paying anything extra for a warranty because you almost never need them. Some people seem happy adding large premiums to the costs of items soley to get a warranty which they will most probably never use.

        • +1

          @Agret:

          My experience is different:
6 months down the track item failed.
Amazon said I am out of return window and asked me to contact manufacturer.
Manufacturer rejected the fix since I purchased it from US (aka no international warranty).
Contacted Amazon and they offer a refund as an one time exception.
          Yes, Amazon is still great.
But I not sure about 3 years warranty.

    • +2

I thought evga offer 3 years international warranty?

      • +6

They do, that's why I'd go with them and not this Asus.

        • OK IM (profanity) BLIND!

i read it as "i wouldnt touch any EVGA from overseas, RE: Warranty".

          Ma bad.

      • That's really good of them. Include shipping?

        • I've heard some people had EVGA arrange a courier to pick it up, others had to pay themselves.

        • +1

Last I checked you post EVGA cards to Taiwan for warranty.

        • @Lukian:

Yep. I've done it. Just be aware that there are no postage options under about $60 to send an EVGA card back to Taiwan for warranty (that's Australia post, and I think insurance/registered post was extra. Couriers start around $100).

So it's a bit pricey for cheaper cards (not such a big deal for pricey cards like this one).

        • @mgowen: on the upside, if you warranty them near their end of warranty, you often get a model up sent to you as a replacement :)

        • @Lukian:

Yes, I have heard of that.

Not in my case, though, I returned a GTX 580 and got an identical (but working) one back, even though it was 3 years or so after they stopped selling them.

    • +1

I ordered an EVGA 1070 from Newegg the other day, it's arriving tomorrow! I couldn't be arsed waiting for the price to drop or back order it on Amazon. The three year worldwide warranty definitely sold me on the purchase though!

      • Which model did you purchase, the FE? How much did it total to +shipping?

I couldn't see any others on sale by newegg, so I thought I might've missed out.

        • +3

Yeah it was the Founder's Edition. Cost me $675 with 2-3 day shipping. This one here.

It was the last piece of the new build ready to be assembled, treated myself - last 10 years has been nothing but sub-$200 GPUs :P

        • +1

          @Kugz:

Ah awesome 2-3 day shipping and still much lower than the RRP here. The price discrimination is real.

I'm in the exact same boat mate, have a complete PC ready to go minus the GPU. Will be going from a GTX 560 to a 1070.

        • @Electrospork:

I've got a 760 at the moment so it's a pretty decent upgrade for me! I've got 2 x 1440p screens now and it seems that the 1070 is perfect for 1440p gaming :)

… I'll probably just end up playing League of Legends anyway lol

        • @Kugz:

          I want to get 450fps on lol.. :) my intel HD530 o ly gets me 76fps :)

Will be upgrading from the hd530 to the AMD RX 480

          Im a level 7 ramuss

        • @vid_ghost: you realise your monitor can't display more than 60-200fps of that right?

And the upper end is the limit of human perception too.

You are just spending more money on your power bill if you aren't using gsync or adaptive vsync

      • I bought the same but was a cheapass and got slow shipping lol. Least its in stock

        • +1

Mine arrives tomorrow :) spending all of tomorrow night putting it together!

  • What would be a recommended CPU and Motherboard for a second tier gaming PC (i.e. a step below GTX1080)?

    • +2

i5-6500 or i5-6600 and a cheaper ASUS Z170 board? eg. ASUS Z170-P $185 @ MSY. If you don't need the features you could even go with a H170 board.

      • +6

Z170 is generally for overclocking, not much point paying extra and not pairing it with an unlocked 6600K.

        • I would recommend the Asus H170 Pro, I got mine for $145 or so, using the current ebay promotion. Comes with an M.2 port, USB Type-C port, as well as all the usual goodies.

        • not much point

Make that no point at all …

  • Do you guys recommend this or the Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1? I'm considering cancelling my G1 order for this card.

    • +1

From everything I've read, Nvidia has locked the voltage available for overclocking in the Bios. As a result, all non-Founders Edition cards hit the same boost limit when overclocked - cards with superior cooling systems are unable to make the most of them through extreme overclocks available on older 28nm cards.

Until they unlock the Bios, it's pretty much down to looks and ease of warranty. EVGA is #1 by far for warranty, and ASUS apparently is pretty shocking. I've kept my preorder for the G1 as it's the cheapest, but I'll swap to EVGA if Amazon gets stock before my G1 is shipped.

      • MSI? Zotac? Gigabyte?

        • How about this for $646 AUD delivered. In stock now:

          http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487247&cm_re=evga_%5cgtx_1070--14-487-247--Product

        • Non founders editions should be almost $100 cheaper. Just a matter of stock.

  • +1

Should I get the EVGA Founders Edition for $646 AUD (Newegg), or..
    This one for $610 AUD.

I suspect the peace of mind 3 year warranty on EVGA is worth the extra $36. Even if the cooler on this is better than Founders Edition.

    • Wouldn't the cooler on the FE have to be better since it's made for over-clocking? If not what would the difference be between the fe and non fe? You're still able to overclock on non-fe right?

      • If not what would the difference be between the fe and non fe?

        Marketing and it's first.

    • Did you come to a conclusion? Any advice? I'm wondering the same thing

  • A heads up for you overclockers. I read that the 1080s and maybe the 1070s (im not sure) that have already come out have hard locked voltage limits.
I believe that some will come out in the near (or not so near) future which lets you hit 1.25 V i think

  • I preordered the GTX 1070 Gaming X (Amazon)- I wonder if it would be worthwhile to cancel that order and purchase the EVGA FE one instead.

How important would the warranty be?

    • amazon's warranty is pretty good, many can vote for it. Personally I never bought a evga, but I heared you need to post it back to Taiwan on your own postage. Amazon will refund the postage if it is their problem.

      • Thanks for the response - the Gaming X was the card I wanted and I do trust Amazon. They have been great to me in the past such as removing the shipping charge for a few of my orders for being a loyal customer.

The two worst things about Amazon are: 1. Amazon.com.au are egoods only and 2. A lot of good are not permitted to ship to Australia (but that is not really Amazon's fault).

        Cheers

    • I wonder if it would be worthwhile to cancel that order and purchase the EVGA FE one instead.

      No.

How important would the warranty be?

      Not worth considering.

      • Is the ASUS superior to the EVGA FE?

  • I kinda pre ordered it but dont have the money in my bank yet, when do i get charged? isnt it when it ships so ill have time to get the money?

    • You'll get charged when it ships out. Could be 2-4 weeks away, based on that Zotac 1070 pre-order.

      • ok cool i should have the money then

  • Im getting this to replace my GTX780 brought 3 years ago I'll put in my old rig (2600k) till I make my new i76700 rig in the next few months

    • I just replaced my super old Radeon HD 6950. And I just finished buying all my parts for my build. I got the MSi Gaming X - Super excited - but the wait is gonna be a killer.

  • +1

As an FYI - it looks like the 980ti's are starting to get heavily discounted, if you're happy with old tech. :)

  • This is a great card, but I think RX480 will be enough for me and should be under $300

  • Have my PC sitting with an empty GPu slot, with a vive on the way… Come on 1080 hurry up and drop to msrp

  • What happened to $379 usd or the $350 usd launch price during the Nvidia press conference. Why are they above $450 usd

    • +2

Demand is high enough for that to be the case - I think people will have to wait until atleast the R490 are on sale before we should expect a price drop - and even then the #379 was the Recommended retail price for the bottom end of lowest range of card. I wouldn't expect to see that kind of price for a very long while.

      • I'm thinking Black Friday/Cyber Monday in November might be the day to buy these.

    • Also take into account that they are RRPs and Amazon normally sells below RRP. Probably by August the cards will be permanently in stock and ~$400 US. And hopefully the AU dollar hasn't crashed by then. Brexit knocked the 2% gain this week off.

  • +2

Rx480 is going to be close to $400 here :)

    • +1

nah i think MSY will put it at $299

      • +1

nah its gonna cost 200 usd so id say about 350 with the conversion rate + fees + aussie taxes

    • TBH that would be pretty bad… $400 card that runs like a 970…
However, if the 8Gb proves better at higher resolutions than 350-400 isn't that bad.

      • From what we've seen so far, it seems like it will match the performance of a 980 at stock.

  • +1

Reading the reviews and comments on evga low end card I think I would prefer this card as it would stay cooler. And the fact that it doesn't matter if you have water cooler or stock cooler your still stuck at 2100mhz oc . So it comes down to the coolest and quietest cheapest model. Which I think this card is up there

  • Help me out here because I feel like an idiot. When I do an XE conversion I get $605.

If I purchased with 28 degree then wouldnt the cost be $605 and not $633 aud?

Btw i cancelled the msi for this one. I really would like the EVGA Superoverclock but can't seem to find that for sale anywhere.

    • 28degree will use their own conversion rate not yours. google what is their conversion rate.

The $633 in the subject title is using amazon conversion rate for guidance, as the item is sold by amazon.

      • Oh right - but I thought 28 degree were meant to use near XE rates.

isn't that the whole point of having that card?

I'll see what I end up getting charged and compare when the charges comes through.

        • Mastercards without forex fees use the MasterCard forex rate. Not the XE or the Google rate. You can find this info in the MasterCard website somewhere, but it's not live data.

  • Hey has anyone purchased the square trade protection plan before?
It looks like they cover the card for 2 years after manufacturers warranty runs out?
I just want to know if it covers us in Australia, can't seem to see anything..

EDIT: Nevermind, realised at checkout that they don't cover internationally

  • my roommate's gigabyte G1 GTX1070 is about to be ship out from amazon on monday……
Amazon' ETA is 14th of July.

anyone know when will this Asus strix back to stock?

IJK said in August lol: http://ijk.com.au/branch/ijk/product_info.php?products_id=15… but this is Australia local store, Amazon has a much better priority.

    • One of the MSI cards is in stock to order (1070 ARMOR OG OC) and I put a dummy order through and I was quoted delivery in August, so it might not be too far off..

      • +1

well since the GPU boost 3.0 is highly directly linked with GPU temperature, i guess the 3 fan cooling should be better then 2 fans?
it seems gigabyte G1 GTX1070 3 fans can hold the card working at 2100mhz and keep the temperature at around 60-70 which is amazing, youtube test information and some reviews.
but some ppl arguing GTX1070 G1 only have 2 heat pipes which is considered as…saving money and cutting G1 video card from gigabyte's most high end line to second…because gigabyte will release another high end line later..that's the reason i canceled my gigabyte G1 gtx1070 and ordered Asus Strix 1070

  • +1

Stocks from Amazon suppliers will become available between 27th of June and 1st of July. It will ship between 4th and 8th of July, this is when payment will be processed too. These are the relevant highlights from my Amazon customer service discussion transcript.

    • The email I received this morning is conflicting with this customer service representative discussion.

      • same here
i got my email confirmation say i will get my Asus Stupid1070(Strix sorry) at end of july or early Aug!!!!!
DAMN!!!! another month…. My GTX770 is crying

  • Usually ships within 2 to 4 weeks. its updated

  • +1

Depending on which shipping option you pay for, anytime between July 21st and August 9th.

      • thats for delivery not for shipping date

        • Sorry Mate, my bad

Based off that info I'd say it would ship on the 19th.
