I think the reason gyms don't post the membership costs online is so that they can charge people differently.
Its also prevents people from shopping around before visiting a particular gym.
I am a member of Goodlife health clubs in WA. Before signing up to them (Fitness First then) I was able to bargain the price down as I knew how much my friend was paying for his membership at the same club including getting them to waive off the joining fees.
Upon expiry of my contract and Goodlife taking over Fitness First my membership prices remained the same even though new Goodlife members were offered cheaper membership prices. After pestering sales from some time I was able to get the RAC discount from them which they claim is the best price I can ever get.
I currently pay ~$33.52 a fortnight or $16.72 a week. This gives me access to all the passport clubs in Australia during weekdays and all clubs on weekends (The one at Brookfield place is platinum which I cant access during the week).
I still feel I am paying too much. Are there others at Goodlife in WA who are paying less than $16.72 a week for a passport membership?
P.S. I use this gym as it is close to where I work. Additionally the Gym has a pool at the cannington club + I can take friends on weekends.
