Sorry…Business to business sales.
Basically business services although my "business" is not-for-profit and operates in an unusual area. How do you generate a good lead?
Then how do you make contact and get them to engage with you and eventually buy your product / service? Do you need to have really thick skin?
What do you do if you fail? How do you get over that feeling?
I like back to basic!
A good lead comes from good research and luck.
First contact usually via email to introduce what we do. And then follow up phone call.
Yes, you need a thick skin.
It is all a numbers game in the end but approaching people who are more likely to be receptive helps. If I fail I don't mind. At least I tried. There are so many businesses who either need or could use the product.
About feelings. I remember in high school saying I could never work in sales. Didn't really match my personality or perception of sales people. But now I work with something I understand and see value in.
I don't mind people saying no. But it is great when they get it and agree to pay for what I am promoting. How do you know what's the right price? Do you have wiggle room, usually?
Maybe I should add I am not interested in selling anything on here.
Actually I want to make a post about the toll on M4 ( Sydney motorway ).
And contribute to any other interesting discussions that come up here…
There are parameters.
To be good at this you need to be able to read people well.
I always try and give the best price first and stick to it.
This approach has worked well for me.
If they are not interested on what I know is a good price based on what comparable companies are paying then so be it.
That said… as all OzBarginers should know there is always wiggle room if you have so much cash and are willing to walk away.
If we can come to a mutually agreeable position it is a deal.Just a hint. Rather than post new comment you can click reply to a comment and you response will follow directly beneath the question rather than at the bottom of the thread.
Lol… cheers
Commiserations. I worked in B2B sales for a while, it's a pretty thankless job IME…
How did you get the job? Any qualifications or degree to help you land the job? What's the hours and pay like?
Hours and pay are pretty good.
Pretty much 9-5 but I do put in extra effort and it pays off.
Experience in a related field landed me this job.
Always ups and downs in sales.
When nothing is happening it can be a bit depressing. I quite enjoy it but only because of the field it is in. I could not just sell anything.
For those that dont know. What exactly is a B2B sales person? Hey. Had to ask.
