The ebay store of a multinational corporation. Yes, they do meet the requirements.
I know there was something with at least power seller or something like that
I find touch screen on a standard laptop not overly useful. It drains the batteries too unless it's disabled.
Different strokes. I find touch screen very useful and wouldn't even consider a laptop without it.
Just a shame so few desktop monitors have touch.
Glass screen ….easy to clean doesn't scratch …..don't use the touch function
Are you sure 10/100 Ethernet? A little bit outdated for new model.
According to the tech specs from eBay, same as the Dell website as. Though I do agree it's outdated if true
lol 6500U, ac wifi but a 10/100 Ethernet.
The older model had 10/100, so I am not surprised this one does too. Otherwise no incentive to buy the higher end models. But yes, it's obviously silly compared to the other specs.
It seems like an extremely niche item. How many people use the ethernet socket on their laptop at all?
And if you do use it - on a system with a 5400rpm hdd - how often are you going to see a performance hit from 10/100 instead of gigabit?
A USB3 gigabit dongle doesn't cost much if you're desperate.
100mbit is only 10MB/s. Gigabit is 100MB/s, which is less than the bandwidth of a modern SATA3 laptop drive. Entire offices still rely on ethernet, including ours.
True, the dongle is cheap-ish, but takes up one of the USB ports (it only has 1 USB 3.0 port, the other ports are limited to 480Mbit).
Business users do, but Inspiron isn't for business. You'd buy a Latitude.
I can't imagine how slow it'd be trying to PXE a computer over 10/100
@scrimshaw: our business looks at spec only. I have used a Latitude as well; it was heavier, but offered zero benefits.
EDIT: okay, not true; the lid was slightly shinier.
You forgot that latitude's come with dock connectors. A big plus for business that already have an investment in them.
Your business is probably relaxed with its hardware requirements then.
The banks and large corporations I have been to and worked at all use business grade equipment. Useful for travel, very customisable, can be used with docking stations, build quality is the major reason why people buy latitudes, encryption, reliability and of course the special warranty that comes with these machines.
This has come up before on other laptop deals with 10/100…
All I can think is:
a) they're sitting on a boatload of these, or,
b) the above + they figure as a laptop, you'll be using the a/c exclusively
Imho…I mean, why else?
I think they have multiple boatloads of these, to be honest.
The cost difference must be near $0. They must be doing this on purpose, for the type of customer who do not know how to interpret spec, but only know how to compare numbers (100<1000, so I should buy the more expensive laptop).
GST when entering the country = 10% extra?
No, these are inclusive of GST. That's based on me having bought an Inspiron from Dell's eBay store in the past. It comes with a tax invoice, which shows GST.
FYI, the base model is $799 (was recently $639 on Dell ebay). So you are paying $340 extra for:
Laptops from the Dell eBay store are usually only worth considering when they have a 20% off deal. They have often had this during the last day of financial new year. I would not be buying now. Two years ago, they sold i7's with dedicated graphics and 8GB RAM for about ~$670 (crap screen of course).
2 years ago Australian dollar was at peak…
More like 5 years ago.
I think there was no i7 ten years ago
For those playing along at home… you can grab the 15 inch 7000 series inspiron with a quad core i5 and a muuuuuuuuuuch better 960M graphics card for only $50 more ($1189) straight from their website.

why didn't OP include model of GPU ?
So we can only assume it's a crap GPU.
You could click on the link so you don't have to assume…
