Can't tell you the amount of requests I've had to bring this deal back. Well it's back and a whole $40 cheaper. This has all the ruggedness & build quality of a ThinkPad but it's also a 2-in-1. Flip the screen and use it as a tablet. Normally $1849 but now $948 with coupon TA-YOGA. If you need to customise by adding an SSD or a faster CPU etc, the price obviously increases but the discount of $901 remains the same.

  • Eh silly question, does this price already include a power adapter?

Why does it ask me if I want one for $46 minimum?

    • Make sure you have selected the Yoga 460 i5 option and not the Yoga 460 build your own option - the code is only applicable to the latter

    • Price does include power adapter. U can buy spare one for example, one at home and another kept at work

Edit: btw there is one already selected as part of the price.

    • Thanks peeps. Ordered!

      Thank you TA!

      • Did you type in exactly 'TA-YOGA'? Mine says Coupon code is not valid for the current cart. Please input a valid one.

        • Yes I just copied and pasted the code and it worked ok.

  • I'm trying to buy it, but the code TA-YOGA won't work. It's saying it's not available for the items in my cart (or something to that tune) any reason why?

    • You've customised the wrong Yoga 460. Empty your cart and make sure you follow the link above.

  • how does it compare to the recent deal Lenovo ThinkPad E460 i7-6500u?
Which one is the better cpu and value for money?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/250428

    Thanks

    • This is better than E460 for sure.

      • whats better in it may i ask?

        :)

    • CPU is better in the E460. Value for money is hard to tell, depends what kind of laptop you need and for what purpose.

      • Just for for uni work and if possible run overwatch and dota 2.

  • Ordered one
    Thanks

  • Would Win10 fit on the 16gb M.2 drive?

    • Not a chance, it barely fits on a 32gb drive. My understanding is that the 16gb is used as a cache, so Windows and frequently used apps load just as fast as a full SSD drive.

      • Oh ok. That makes sense. I'm kind of worried about having a spinning disk on a portable device. It's a shame that the option for an m.2 drive disappears when you select an SSD in place of an HDD. I'd love to be able to have this tablet as a screen capture device (With my Elgato HD 60 s). I think the m.2 drive would help in capturing pretty decent videos.

    • Just replace this m.2 drive with something bigger.

      • I'm trying to decide whether to get it as is, and upgrade the HDD / m.2 drives myself. I'd get an SSD and a higher capacity m.2. drive. It looks like I can get a 250gb one from umart for around $155 (http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…).

The m.2 drive on Lenovo's site suggests that the higher capacity m.2 drive is actually sata 3, so I'm guessing that's why the option to have one disappears if you also want a more traditional sata 3 ssd. Umart's one looks like it's a normal m.2 card, so I should be able to have both, right?

        • You should be able to have the biggest m.2 drive you can afford and replace the 1TB drive with an ssd as well.

        • @xoom: Beware that it's m.2 slot is not full length. I think the highest stubby SSD you can get is 512GB.

        • @psdillon:

which is more than plenty for most people.

        • @xoom: For sure, I just meant to be careful not to buy a full length one, whatever the capacity.

        • @psdillon:

yeah. my bad. shame these manufacturer even bother with restricting to a stubby m.2 drives. its not a weight issue. also its likely not going be too hard to allow full size m.2 drives anyway.

        • @psdillon: yup it's 42mm. I got a 512gb transcend m.2 from Amazon US and am booting from it without any issues

  • Just tried to order and their payment system deducted my visa $1 x3 for each attempt to purchase. Will have to wait until Tues to get it sorted I guess, my bank said everything is fine their end. Pity as it ticks all the boxes for my wife.

  • Anyone know a reliable guide/ tutorial on how to upgrade HDD to SSD?

I've found a couple on youtube, but most rely on using an additional usb type attachments to the SSD to transfer data etc. I'm mainly finding lack on instructions on how to get the operating system/ software side of things figured out. Opening and laptop and jamming a SSD in the slot is easy enough.

    • It might be easiest to use the device in its original configuration to the point of generating recovery media, then swapping out the system drive to your SSD and recovering from that media you generated earlier.

Please please please can you get us a big deal on the X1 Yoga too? This one is a bit heavy :(

  • Does anyone know how "anti-glare" the screen is? I've got an E560 which has an anti-glare screen, would it be similar to that, or because it's a touch screen would it be more reflective? Most of the videos and reviews I find online show a fairly reflective screen.

  • I can see the hardware is compatible with wwan modems. How would I be able to use sim card with my Ericsson 5521 modem from e420?

Does it have a slot, or would I just leave it inside with the modem?

Anyone has experience with the yoga 460 or 260 in combination with wwan?

    Thanks in advance

    • Don't think I've ever seen a WWAN card with a slot - the slot is always in the laptop body. The Yoga 260 has a slot in the side, while the X1 Yoga has a slot on the back/hinge side, not sure about 460. Because this one can't be configured with a WWAN card online, you might find that once you open it up it doesn't have the antenna wires.

      • I just saw in the previous thread that this particular model didn't come with the SIM slot so can't be upgraded with the WWAN card.

        • I've opened up the yoga460 (to upgrade ssd) and can say there's a space for the SIM card near the hinge (at the back), but there is no way you could put a sim card in there unless you open up the bottom cover. Fairly sure that would probably not do anything though.

  • Finally pulled the plug. After all of the hardware issues people experienced with the previous deal, I decided to pay an extra $22 for on-site warranty. Have heard that depot warranty can take months to return the laptop.

Also got the WQHD screen, hoping that it's got better colour and brightness.

    • Did the same with the on-site warranty. I've not experienced their depot warranty, but their on-site has been fantastic.

      • Out of interest why did you need it?

        • Where I work, we run Lenovo laptops. Out of 80 laptops over two years that I look after, we have had four issues, but the response and repair time has been very quick compared to other arrangements we have had.

For the sake of $22, I'd prefer not to be without it for long on the off chance something does go wrong.

        • +1

@m13: Thanks. Corporate care is almost always far better than private for obvious reasons. I hadn't noticed the on-site option until psdillon's comment so thumbs up. A no brainer for $22 really.

  • Argh.. can't decide to get this or to get one of the Asus Zenbooks with the upcoming 20 ebay sale?

    thoughts?

  • If I buy this and move overseas, would I have to ship it back to Australia for warranty purposes? Cheers!

  • Bit the bullet and bought the Lenovo yogo 460 with 196GB SSD and onsite warranty for $1028.00,minus 8% so $945.76.

Excellent deal I reckon considering this model was released this year as well?

Anyone know EST on shipping and where it comes from?

    Cheers!!

    • Previous thread suggested China, from 2-4 weeks. Click on the "this deal" link in TA's spiel at the top if you want to know more (inc problems with the device)

  • Well after two knockbacks because their bloody Paypal system wasn't working I finally got my order thru.

    • I had the same problem. but with just the CC it was all good

    • I had a Paypal problem as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one, I thought it was something I must have done wrong. Mine went through ok the second time.

      • Gave up after two goes and went CC. Would have pulled the pin had that not worked.

Hopefully not a portent. Doesn't augur well for the rest of their service if a large international computer company can't get its website right. First time Lenovo for me. Had zero problems with Dell and HP (reconditioned Pavillion) in the past.

Discount code still work on Mon at 4am!!!

  • Thanks TA. I ended up ordering one with an hour to spare. I decided to go for the 256GB SSD pre-installed. I know I could have got a better SSD cheaper and installed it myself, but I couldn't really be bothered stuffing around. I also paid extra for the 2 year NBD warranty. Just over $1200 all up less whatever I get back from Cashrewards, so I think its still a good deal.

  • Was anyone able to add the 2 gig graphics card? I noticed I could for the same model on the Hong Kong website but not the Australian one.

I ordered but have asked them to quote me if that can be added in or anyone know if I can do it myself later?

    • No, I believe the voucher was deliberately not applicable to models with discrete graphics card. Let us know their answer though… good luck!

  • Has anyone been able to get through to the order tracking on the Lenovo website? All I get is:
    The ovp.lenovo.com page isn’t working
ovp.lenovo.com redirected you too many times.
    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

No response from Lenovo to my email either.

    • Yeah, I just got through about two minutes ago through the link in the order confirmation email.

      • Thanks m13. Email link not working for me yesterday or today, and Order Status link on their website gives the same error. Maybe a browser problem but I did clear cache and turn off Ghostery in Chrome so it's got me stumped. Other Lenovo links all work.

  • Waiting for a new laptop arrive is so painful. First world problems are sooo annoying!

    • Apparently another two weeks to wait…

    • Just checked & estimated delivery on order portal is showing 1st July,

      • Mine's still showing June 24 (to Melb). I ordered late on Sunday night so I'm sure it will change to July at some stage.

Oops that was for office licence. Laptop estimated at June 30.

      • I don't even have a ship date yet. Happy to wait while they get their QC right!

At least I found the cause of my Lenovo link error problem - the httpsEverywhere extension in Chrome.

Can anyone advice if I should try without the anti glare screen?

Saw I can buy in Hong Kong where I am at the moment for a little extra but I am add the graphics card and also get non anti glare

    • +1

I don't think any review sites have tested the glossy FHD screen so it's a risk. If it's like the Yoga 700 14" screen then it has poor brightness at 190 nits. Also Lenovo in HK doesn't allow you to return configured-to-order laptops.

FYI: I received this laptop last Friday the 24th of June after ordering it on June 13th with the SSD upgrade. Had it for the weekend now and my initial thoughts are:

    1. This laptop is freaking awesome
    2. Very happy
    3. Made the right choice
    4. There is intertional warranty and support for when I take this overseas

If anything changes to the above, I'll be sure to come back and update my post.

    • +1

Got mine today. SSD upgraded. Arrived about two weeks after ordering.

BADNESS 1: Their shipping tracking leaves a lot to be desired. The DHL tracking number linked from the invoice started working about two days before it was delivered. There was another link hidden away in one of the emails that probably worked earlier, but it wasn't easy to find.

BADNESS 2: So much Lenovo software installed it's ridiculous. Maybe a dozen? Many with what looks like old low-res Windows 95 icons. Not confidence inspiring, especially considering their reputation for software quality and security.

But to be fair, those are only issues until you HAVE the laptop (and uninstalled everything) - should be fine after that.

GOODNESS 1: Built in stylus not nearly as bad as it looked. Seemed like a DS stylus in reviews.
GOODNESS 2: Best laptop keyboard I've ever used.
GOODNESS 3: Fingerprint readers are super useful when you have multiple logins for home/work/hobby. Different finger for each one.

      • GOODNESS 1: Built in stylus not nearly as bad as it looked. Seemed like a DS stylus in reviews.

I take that back, it works fine as long as you don't need the side buttons. They're impossible to locate by touch if you accidentally rotate the pen a bit.

Got mine this morning, only change was the WQHD screen. The WQHD screen is excellent, I had it side by side with a Yoga X1 WQHD (2.5 times the price) and the screen colour and brightness is identical, except the X1 has a semi-matt anti-glare filter. Keyboard feels identical as well. A little heavy for an ultrabook. A big plus over the X1 is that you can install sata drive (up to 4TB SSD) as well as an m2 SSD (upto 512GB). Overall an excellent purchase.

    • Any screen flicker on max brightness settings? Has been reported as a problem on a few from what I've read.

Btw who delivered? Presumably you had to sign for it?

      • +1

I'm not sure. I'm usually susceptible to flicker but I didn't notice any. I've been using it on full brightness. I thought that kind of flicker only happened when running at reduced brightness?

Yes had to sign for it. Was delivered by DHL.

  • Arrived today, 2 days earlier than expected. Still setting up but no screen flicker noticeable at this stage. Initially chose UK keyboard and the @/" keys were flipped. Very odd. Black keyboard is so much better than my old silver Pavilion one. Clearer, better feel, better spacing. Early days and I have a lot to learn about the Y460/Lenovo and W10 but so far so good.

  • Must say I'm underwhelmed by the sound/speakers. Very tinnie. Ok with headphones. Comes with W10 Conexant which has no facility to adjust frequencies eg add base/mid. Anyone know if there's something to replace this next to useless application for things like youtube?

  • Has anyone successfully upgraded their hard drive? I'd appreciate it if anyone can let me know where I can get the required screwdriver/bits. It's not the end of the world, but I'd really like to get rid of the HDD

I don't have the required screwdriver to open up two of the screws. They're either screwed in really tight, or I just don't have the right bit. I don't want to risk threading the screws so I've benched it for now.

    • +1

You only need a small Phillips head screwdriver, but it also helps if you have a plastic flat bladed screwdriver/tool to separate the back cover which clips in place. A small flat blade screwdriver also helps to remove the 3 rubber plugs that cover the front 3 screws.

Have a look here under page 129:

      https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/p40_yoga14_mt…

Don't forget to disable the battery in the BIOS before opening it, otherwise it's very easy to fry the motherboard. Also the manual doesn't mention the plastic drive frame, which you need to pop off the old drive and put onto the new drive.

If you don't want to do a fresh install of Windows then you should create a recovery USB drive before you remove the old drive. To do that run RecoveryDrive.exe and make sure "Back up system files to recovery drive" is selected. Put in the new drive, boot from the USB drive (hit F12 as soon as you turn it on to select boot device), click "Troubleshoot" then "Recover from a drive".

      • Woah, thanks for the quick reply! I actually didn't expect a reply since the deal was so long ago. Thanks for all the info!

I actually managed to find the screwdriver I was after. It was on my desk the entire time ._. Just hidden under mountains of cables haha.

I had no other issues with the screws and back panel. I just needed to get those pesky screws off. As for the hard drive, I've replaced so many laptop hard drives that I was perhaps a little overconfident. I had no idea you had to disable the battery. Luckily it survived the ssd transplant. I bought an 850 EVO, which came with software to clone the operating system. It worked a treat! I didn't have to do a thing. It booted just fine, and I've not had any trouble.

The only issue I'm faced with now is the lack of OpenGL, and for some reason I can't find any good information on installing it. There's apparently also a custom driver on the 520. I wonder if I can just remove it and install one from Intel themselves.

    • I have.

For the removal of the HDD, you need to be able to lift up the battery.
There's no screws that hold the HDD, but a rubber mount thingy, which, to release, there's a small window in the hard plastic. A rubber tab (from the rubber mount frame around the HDD) pokes out.
To be able to see this little small rectangular window you need to lift up the battery, and it will be on the bottom, adjacent to where the battery sits and . Use a small flat head screw driver, and push the rubber tab towards the HDD, thus releasing the soft rubber frame thingy from the hard plastic, then the HDD with the soft rubber frame can be lifted easily from the laptop :)

      • I wonder if we got different models. The only thing in the way of the hard drive was the ribbon the the motherboard. The battery was on the other side. I just pulled the tab on the hard drive and it came off eventually

        • There was a tab on the harddrive too, but that got yanked off by my finger, because the tab on the soft rubber bracket around the harddrive (hidden by the battery) kept the bracket in there.
Or maybe your soft rubber bracket just wasn't held in by that tab.

          Should be the same model..

        • @cwongtech: It sounds like the plastic hard drive frame was installed upside-down. Mine is as per the manual, which shows the tab sticking up and not obscured by the battery. I changed the HDD without removing the battery.

  • Mine just arrived. Has anyone had issues with the left speaker being very tinny/muffled? At all volumes and sounds you can hear the speaker muffle and it is quite bad. The right side speaker does not appear to have this issue.
    Any help is appeciated?

    • Had mine a week or so. No muffled sound at all. HTH.

      • Thanks Denz. I logged it for warranty repair. I paid for Next Business Day Onsite repair when i ought the unit. But apparently it isnt actually next day. It's an 18 day wait which is absolute crap imo. Poor form from Lenovo

        • +1

That is really poor. Have just googled and there are plenty of examples of very poor service under this warranty going back years so it seems they have done nothing to improve service. Wouldn't have bought Lenovo had I known. Then again if I have trouble and they don't comply I'll be straight onto comsumer affairs and the ACCC (they will often only act after repeated complaints). It's clearly deceptive and misleading conduct.

  • Any chance you can bring this deal back op?
