  • Good Price I paid $1550 delivered few months back.

They even have the Dyson DC37c for $320 and I paid $399 last month

    • Same here, paid about the same in October 2014.

  • Good fridge for that price.

  • I have this fridge and love it!

  • Last batch of Australian made fridge?

    • yep, manufacturing now gone to Thailand

  • +9

Bottom mount should be standard. It is so much better than top mount. Would never go back.

Downside is the motor is typically still at the bottom, which reduces already small freezer space

    • +1

      What makes it better?

      • +3

The stuff you access most frequently (i.e. stuff in the fridge) is at eye level.

        • Also saves you from constantly bending over (unless you're into that kinda thing 😜).

      • Hot air rises, cold air sinks, freezer on the bottom is meant to be more efficient.

        • +4

khonfahm's link says they're less efficient.

In this configuration, the freezer section is located right next to the compressor which generates heat. Bottom mount fridge/freezers are typically less energy efficient than top mount fridge/freezers as they use more energy to keep the freezer section cold and supply cold air into the fridge section.

        • @gilbarc: I do believe both sides have a case. I am all for some side by side testing, does anyone have a Choice sub? Have they tested this yet? Whilst on the subject of fridge/freezer efficiency. Keeping your freezer full is more efficient than it being half empty all the time, so choose an appropriate sized freezer to your shopping needs, bigger is not always better.

      • +1

Accessibility of the stuff you use the most

    • +1

It may have less freezer space, but bottom mount would be way to go, maybe if you live with frozen food, then top mount, or perhaps a freezer it self.
These days fridges are well insulated, having freezer next to the compresses is not a issue.

    • agree, however I have noticed most top mounts have a slightly higher energy rating

    • Bottom mount should be standard. It is so much better than top mount.

It is, but only if it is well designed. My 10-year-old Westinghouse upside-down wasn't, and I suspect many of the modern ones have the same defect. Check the door mount between the two doors, this has to take the full weight of the fridge door (including contents). On mine, it has sagged, so now the door doesn't self-close.

With a normal-way-up fridge, the bottom mount for the fridge door is much stronger, because it's a large plate that goes under the fridge. That can't be done with an upside-down fridge, the mount has to be much smaller, because there isn't much room, so it's much weaker.

      • Have you tried to get the manufacturer to repair fridge under fair use warranty. It would have been big money buy and if you check with consumer affairs department they may support you as the fault may be a known design fault. Unless you lent on it getting beer out 😭.

        • Considered it, but the fault didn't show in the first few years, and it would have been maybe six years old before we discovered why the problem was getting worse. Probably too late for something that isn't a "major fault".

        • ss:
Two phone calls. $1/2 on landline with some possibility of success or shared cost or instructions seems like good idea for a few minutes of time ( oops maybe a little longer on call centre)

Luck to you anyway . Perhaps you could find a replacement door and hinges on Gumtree or white goods recycling place.
Sorry I can't help with latter.

  • I have the same fridge. It is excellently. Quiet and energy efficient.

  • +1

Measurement is 803mm width, a 1720mm height, and a 745mm depth, please update..

  • +1

    Only 3 star energy rating.

I bought the LG GB-450UPLX 450L Bottom Mount Refrigerator which has 4.5 energy star rating at a similar price.

    • +1

Yes, but that's only half the story. It might cost $20 more in power to run for the year, but is an Electrolux fridge better quality than LG? Will it last longer? How does either model compare for consistent temperature or temp recovery when it's been opened?

These to me are more important than saving a few dollars of electricity each year.

      • These to me are more important than saving a few dollars of electricity each year.

I'd be interested how you manage to do your research to find out… No point listing the things that you find important, but have no freaking way of finding an answer to. Good luck waiting for either fridge to fail before making your purchase!

        • Choice magazine….

    • I bought the same one for the energy efficiency, very happy with it so far. And I like how it doesn't have handles, makes it easier to clean.

    • LG does not have option for left hinge or right hinge (only one of them I can't remember). With Electrolux you can choose.

  • I have this fridge, bought it at Christmas. Love it :)

  • Same delivery fee from TGG's on this 102kg fridge 1300km away as for a 43kg 2.5kw split syetem air conditioner 50km away- go figure.

  • +1

I got this fridge for free from someone moving interstate (no better bargain than free). It's only a couple of years old and there were already a number of rust spots on the stainless steel of the door. That said it is quiet and works well. Fridge is massive, freezer space is small for the size of the unit.

  • +1

    Damn 3cm too wide.

Why do fridges always seem to be left opening / right hinge in AU?

    • I thought you could change fridge dor direction on most fridges these days. As for space it took me ages to find a fridge that would fit in my space with a water connection(really wanted the auto ice maker) Ended up with a french door so the door direction didn't play a part.

    • You can actually buy this fridge with right opening / left hinge - i did from Bing Lee.

    • +3

Because most people are right handed so it's easier to open the door with that configuration….

Most fridge cavities are either designed for right hinge and/or it doesn't matter…

      • That's oppressing the left handed. We need hand neutral fridges.

        • start a safe kitchens campaign…

        • What about two handles so you pull the entire door off to open it? No oppression there, except against people without hands.

    • not sure about how you do it over the ebay, but When you actually ordering from GG/HN, you either order left or right. These fridges usually ship from the factory (made to order, not from stock), well at least when I bought it.

    • I had same issue with width of this fridge so ended up ordering this fridge instead. Ordered it on Saturday got it delivered on Monday. Initial impression is pretty good although would have loved this Electrolux with 510 l capacity

    • Turn it upside down. Oops that's dryers.

  • +1

    Brilliant fridge
Purchased mine for $1280 (collect from Harvey Norman warehouse) at the end of 2014 and THAT was a great price then. RRP then was $1600. Thoroughly recommended

  • I own the electronic version of this fridge.. 5 yrs and it hasn't missed a beat. Amazing price.

    • Is this one pedal powered?

      • EBE5100

        • EBM5100 - mechanical control
          EBE5100 - electronic control

  • Great fridge, stylish and functional. Bought for $1400 after $300 cashback from electrolux in Dec 2010.

  • this style or side by side, Which one would be better ?
as I am comparing this one with LG-GS-B679P http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-LG-GS-B679PL-679L-Side-Side-R…

    • +1

We have been using a similar one but different branded. Bottom freezer and single door is the best one I think as you can put bigger stuff like cake trays in the single door fridge without much hassle.

      • Mrs told me same thing…..thanks…now pulling trigger on this one…

  • I have been waiting for a deal like this, but I can't get it this week - damn you Murphys Law! Nice first post though OP.

  • Brought this almost 3 years ago from HN for around 1500. Been quite happy with it despite minor design and quality issue I had:

    • Make sure the cheese / egg cover is closed properly before closing the fridge door, they (the hinge) crack easily if the cover is not fully closed. I've seen other comments online with the same issue.
    • Couple of weeks ago the little hook that holds the milk tray (the bottom tray on the inside of the door) in place snapped. The whole door needs to be replaced. Rang up Electrolux and threw the consumer guarantee at them. They offer me a replacement door for free but I still have to pay the call out cost.

This is a really good price = new doors + call out cost.

    • What do you mean by consumer guarantee?

  • I have this fridge, it is excellent!(got it with the last big eBay sale)
A lot of storage room too & it is deep. Suits my family perfectly.

  • cheers, bought one.

  • I am interested in buying one. Can someone tell me what is the volume of freeze compartment? TA

Never mind. Found it on TGG site: 349 + 156 ltr

  • Appliances Online product overview:

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/510l-electrolux-fridge-e…

If they had it at this price, I'd buy it from them!

    • Yeah they probably wouldn't match the 20% ebay discount…

  • Can't find anything out there about this model being made in Australia. Also, it has very mixed reviews on ProductReview.

Based on the specs, if it was locally made I might be tempted, but as a single person I think 510 litres is just a bit too big.

Also, as I move around and rent, the 803 mm width might be a problem in some places.

I've therefore decided to go with the LG GB-450UPLX 450 litre. Only 700 mm wide, and it gets rave reviews on ProductReview. And a 4.5 energy rating.

The other good thing for me is that the freezer on the LG is actually the same size at the Electrolux - important as I do a lot of cooking and tend to freeze lots of meals.

    • Good choice

  • Damn, I will be away during the estimated delivery date. Does anyone know whether I can specify when to deliver?

    • +1

yes, you can arrange with TGG for delivery date. They called me the next business day to organize delivery

      • Fantastic and thanks, I will place an order now.

  • If I buy on eBay and pay for shipping do they all come from the NSW location specified on eBay or do they come from a local store?

  • Good deal OP (thanks).
Seeking general advice from the forum: I'm in need of a fridge this size (around 550L in these dimensions) does anyone have experience with this Electrolux (EBM5100SD-R), or the Panasonic 554L (NR-BY552XSAU) better? I like the look and extra capacity on the Panasonic. Both seems to have mixed reviews on productreview.com.au, especially the Panasonic with recent reviews suggesting the unit is failing (not keeping cold) after 3 years.

  • I contacted them via their Facebook and confirmed this model is made in Australia (Orange NSW they said).

  • Picked mine up today. Big sticker on it saying made in Australia. Thanks op. Happy wife happy life!

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one..

  • Hi, I have received the fridge and I would like to inquire other people who have same fridge in regards to lighting. Is there only one light in the back of the top refrigerator that's running vertically ? What about the matt plastic casing on ceiling of the fridge ? Is that meant to be a light as well? Because mine is not on.

    Thank you

    • No light in that. Just for show.
