Need help to find good deal for internet

Hi Ozbargainers:

I was with TPG ADSL 2+ home phone bundle in my old house. Since I moved, I was told TPG doesn't connect to new property due to they can't connect to the area. They suggested me to active phone line with Telstra and move the old plan over.

However, The homephone from Telstra itself cost about $28 P/M. The cost would be almost the same as sign up new bundle plan with telsta if add the cost from old plan.

Therefore, I would like have some more ideas for better deal.

  1. Sign the Telstra Bundle deal $89 p/m
  2. Connect the home phone with Telstra and perhaps find better deal from another ISP?

I don't chase speed that much and I don't play on-line games. I use internet just to pay bills and download movies and music.

    Pretty sure you just need to pay Telstra to connect the line, once you have a phone number then TPG can hook you up and disconnect the old Telstra line.

      you pay telstra to activate the line you dont need to go with telstra for the ongoing phone line rental

      doing that will negate what is good (IMO) about the TPG bundle
      well that and the unlimited download limit

    We were in the same situation for a couple of years with our new house and went with Exetel for ADSL and phone.
    We were restricted because we were on what they call a rim.
    I am not sure if Exetel still do it but they could provide the connection through Optus or Telstra networks.
    Put your address into their website and see what it comes up with. It was about half the price of Telstra.
    We have been with them for well over 10 years in total and have never had a problem.
    There may be other ISPs that can provide a connection via the Telstra network too which are usually cheaper than Telstra itself? (resellers)
    How far are you from being connected to the NBN? There is no restriction on who you go with on that.

    How about Belong? I haven't checked lately, but they used to be $60 per month for internet and a (limited) phone line, with no connection fee. They are part of Telstra.
