Having spent a bit of time thinking about these ideas, I think the key issue is marketing.
How do you find customers, and how do they find you?
If you are full time you can have a shop, signage etc. but part time is harder.

My other conclusion is you have the choice of investing capital (like party hire stuff) to make money, or investing time (like photo sessions).
I think the preference should be to invest capital, as you can then grow, while investing time has limits.

The Mrs used to tutor French and maths over the weekend. She also sometime models, mostly photoshoots, for a bridal boutique.

I used to give tennis lessons after work. So I was basically getting paid to workout:)

Next door neighbour has a cleaning job. I believe he cleans display homes, either late at night or early in the morning. During the day he's a bank manager.

The 2 full-time students down the road from us work as escort girls.

      Are the students pretty?

      • Their rate will probably give you a good indication. Market forces.

        • They are friends with the Mrs. From what they've told her, it's more about being a good listener and empathetic than the actual sex. They are both studying Psychology at uni so I would assume that they are good at their job and can charge more.

      • Are the students pretty?

No more, no less than their housemate who works as a salesgirl at Chaddy.

Question asked, question answered - electricbluee become an escort

    • Are you the girls' best customers?

      • Why would he be? His misses is a model.

Yeah, but apparently he's also rich, has an awesome job in which his uniform is a Spider-man suit, owns multiple properties, drives expensive cars & gives them away as gifts, is moving to some island paradise (but hasn't left yet), yadda, yadda…the list of fantasies JJB posts on here is seemingly endless.

@StewBalls: I thought I was the only one thinking this…

        • She's not a model. She sometimes does modelling. She explains it better

        • @StewBalls: I wouldn't say I was rich. If I was I wouldn't have a mortgage. I've worn my spiderman/superman outfits twice to work. No work uniform. I usually wear casual clothing with a lab coat or suits. We own 2 properties and still paying the mortgage on one.

I've lent my car to a mate for a couple of weeks, car which I have now sold. I drive nice cars but nothing too exciting. They are SUVS after all; not sports cars.

The Mrs ( who is Mauritian) and the kids are moving to her home country in July, which is actually earlier than originally planned. I've decided to stay in Melbourne, at least for the time being.

All in all, I have a pretty ordinary life. What's yours like?

The hardest thing with a "side business", and this is doubly so when you're doing it for money not passion, the moment you take your eyes off it you'll stop making money.

Every single small business I've ever seen has one thing in common, the crazy amount of time and dedication it takes just to keep it viable. Sure, one day you make work it enough to run under its own steam for a period. But doing a "side business" for money will probably eat all your rest/relaxation time and return little to no money (or lose you money).

If it's for money you're better off taking on a side job, that way you don't have to worry about the business viability side of things.

A side business will be a money and time sink. If you're doing it for passion, then go for it. If you're doing it for money, it's a bad idea.

I tried drop shipping, and then started an online business but it doesn't work well. I was losing money every month due to the advertising on Google Adwords (~$50 per month). I was juggling too many things at the same time and thus didn't spend enough time on it. Turn out I lost about 4K but that's a gd lesson learnt.

    Drive for Uber/Lyft?

  • If it's just to make a few extra dollars take that time and use it to get ahead in your 9-5 job. Workout, network, study and scheme.

Much better to invest that extra few hours a week into turning your 9-5 job into a six figure career. In the long run you will be much better off than the few hundred you can earn working a weekend job.

If you really have the time to spend use it as an opportunity to increase your skills. Examples maybe do some weekend work for a real estate agent , learn some sales skills and property market, work as labourer for tradies and learn handyman stuff, weekend or night shift factory and warehouse work teaches you whatever they do.

From what I've seen learn how to repair swimming pools and pumps those dudes are unqualified and charge a fortune.
