Secret 2014 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Dozen $220 w/Free Freight (RRP $420) from WineDirect.com.au

03

New vintage of a special "Secret Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon" that has been previously offered. One of our favourite producers and a truly stunning Cabernet that consistently scores high from judges, scores numerous gold medals and picks up the odd trophy. It is most certainly our tasting panels go to Cabernet and has all the makings to be the best vintage released and getting it delivered to your door for free is a no brainer! Below is direct from the winedirect.com.au website and gives more insight into the wine.

"A stunning Coonawarra Cab from one of the longest established producers in the region, full of cabby goodness from arguably Australia’s best cabernet growing region. Linear and bursting with sweet plums and cranberries - there is depth here that will unfold for years to come. Long on length with firm tannins that bind the wine brilliantly. Pop on your fav dressing gown, pour a glass and light up a Montecristo. Vintages of this wine regularly pick up scores of 94-96 out of a hundred from wine writers such as James Halliday and Huon Hooke, neither of whom have looked at this 2013 yet. We reckon this is the best release to date of this textbook Coonawarra Cabernet - offering cassis, tobacco leaf, cedary oak and exceptional length. A ripping wine if drunk now and one which will improve for 10 or more years."

  • $220 for 'unknown' producer and quality… no thanks…

    • No sense of investigation?

        yeahhhh … nahhhhhhhhhh

Sooo much trust with something sooo subjective. $220 is an expensive wine gamble for me.

    • +1

Understand the trust factor. Although if you purchase something and find it unsatisfactory, we will replace it free of charge. You pretty much have to offer that level of service in an industry such as this. I would never recommend something that wouldn't hold up. no one wants to be associated with making bad recommendations in a sales environment

You're selling a mystery box, and not for a cheap price. Effectively just a gamble, and sorry but lottery deals are banned on here.

Neg for lack of details to even prove this is a bargain.

    • can you please explain what you mean by lottery?

      • It's a gamble. Generally the only time these deals are well received are when a member makes a 99.9% accurate claim of what the product actually is.

Right now, you're selling a mystery box, which charlatans have been doing for hundreds of years, taking poor suckers money and running off into the sunset.

I don't believe these mystery wine deals deserve a posting when they can't be identified. So until you can do that, I will keep my neg on this 'deal'

        • you are most welcome to have your own opinion. calling someone a "charlatan" for protecting the wineries identity is a bit much. If anyone wished to learn the identity of the wine, they are more than welcome to ask and an answer will be given. "taking poor suckers money and running of into the sunset" is wildly inaccurate, but again, you are certainly entitled to your own opinion. If 30 seconds had been spent searching for a 2014 Coonawarra Cabernet that our company stocks, "these mystery deals" would have been quite easy to identify. Again though, I an not here to bicker with people on a website, just to provide information as it is requested. I'm sorry that this offer has upset you, it will be taken into account and not done in the future

        • @Dboc1987:

So what you are saying is "offering products as secret deals are to not butcher a label"

          however

"If 30 seconds had been spent searching for a 2014 Coonawarra Cabernet that our company stocks, "these mystery deals" would have been quite easy to identify"

and the point of all this is, what?

        • @phocus:

The idea is for people to come to the conclusion themselves. I really wasn't anticipating such negativity. It won't happen again if it upsets people this much

  • This deal is more similar to Tattslotto than a bargain…

  • +1

you're better off telling people exactly what wine they are getting and then show them the discount you are to provide rather than asking them to blindly give you $220.

  • To be clear, the process of offering products as secret deals are to not butcher a label in the public sphere and still offer a great discount. If it does not interest people, then I will ensure to not do it again. However, in the past, we have done this on this site to great success and had plenty of people take it up. I understand that it isn't for everyone and all of your concerns are noted. There was an opportunity to offer a great wine form a well respected winery for $200 off the retail value. If you don't want that though, well noted and it will be removed

    • If we do not know the products, how can we vote that this is a bargain?

How do we compare with other products at other stores ???

This is just SPAM, not a bargain…

      • "Feel free to get in touch with [email protected] if you have any questions or queries" suggests that if you in fact have ANY QUESTIONS, you may ask them…

        • sorry too busy… maybe Dan O'Connell could join the discussion here… That way the 2,114,783 OzBargain users can also read the replies…

Now this is a better wine deal

    • true, there are some pretty good wines there. But if you were to buy a case of this wine offered from Dan Murphy's, it would cost you $331.20. True though that there is some nice wines there. I noticed that the person listing the deal was not a store representative, if I wasn't one myself, I'd be glad to reveal the identity of the wine. It looks like the person that posted it did some research to reveal the labels himself…
